Service info: I joined in September 1959 and went through HMCS CORNWALLIS joining HMCS MICMAC just after Christmas. I served aboard the MICMAC and the BONAVENTURE honourably discharged in 1962 on completion of my engagement.
I had just turned 17 and was doing my best to act all grown up and that I belonged. The MICMAC was my first real opportunity in an environment where I was an equal. In those days the military took people who had potential but needed direction. I will always be so thankful for the fellowship, the leadership, and the responsibility I was given as a member of the Royal Canadian Navy. Much of my success in life came to me as a result of the discipline and community I found in the Navy.

I seem to remember he was carrying a full garbage can over his shoulder heading aft to the garbage chute when the ship rolled. We did not find him in spite of a search and considering the water was just above freezing at the time.
