WALKER, Robert Thomas, AB, V50598, RCNVR, MPK - 07 May 1944, HMCS VALLEYFIELD - Son of William H. and Mary E. Walker, of Toronto, Ontario.
AB Walker died when HMCS VALLEYFIELD was sunk on 07 May 1944 by U-548 50 miles SE of Cape Race. Of VALLEYFIELD'S crew of 125, there were only 38 survivors.
"Able Seaman Robert Thomas Walker, this was his first trip overseas according to his mother Mrs. Mary E. Walker, after she officially received notification that her son is missing at sea. The sailor had previously been serving with the R.C.N. at an Eastern Canadian port. "I don't know when he left" his mother said. Enlisted in February, 1942. Able Seaman Walker trained at H.M.C.S. York and at Cornwallis. Robert was born in Toronto he attended Runnymede College." (Transcription of newspaper clipping)
