In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
TESKEY, Leonard Malcove - passed away peacefully at the age of 90, surrounded by his family in his Delta, BC home, as he had wished.
Son of Dorothy Malcove and Elie Teskey, he was born June 23, 1933, in the North End of Winnipeg, where he was doted upon by his babas and zaydehs, Isaac, Lillian, Joseph, and Leah, and was close to his older brother Arthur (Archie). His potential was apparent early: in grade 2 he was asked to read to the grade 5 class. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 17 and served in the Korean War. On leave in Winnipeg at 19 he met and married Dorothy Joan McLachlan (his "Joanie") and had five children. After discharge from the Navy, encouraged by his Aunt Fania, he leveraged his high school education and growing business acumen to ultimately become Canadian real estate manager for Southland Corporation (7-Eleven). Upon retirement he continued working as investment advisor to banks, businesses, and friends.
Nothing was more important to Len than his family and he brought his mischievous personality to family life, cheerfully tormenting his wife by applying perfume testers until he reeked and making ridiculously named lunches for his kids (Ravishing Russian Raccoon Rings anyone?). Mr. T loved animals, especially dogs and wolves, and unstintingly supported friends and strangers alike. He was a man of great heart and indomitable will: if ever Sinatra's "My Way" applied to a life, it was to his.
He is forever loved by his children Harold (Melanie), Terry (Tom), Sandy, Shelley, and Ginger (Dieter); grandchildren Jeremy (Aubrey), Matthew, Alex, Nathan, and Tovi; and great-grandchildren Malcolm and Roland.
A celebration of Len's life will be held Tuesday, March 5, 2:00 p.m. PST. The service will be streamed; if you wish to view it, email terry.teskey@gmail.com for the link.
In lieu of flowers please send donations to Yamnuska Wolfdog Sanctuary.
Dad, we love you. Mom, he's your problem now! (The Winnipeg Free Press 02 Mar 2024)
