MCLACHLAN, George Hallern, Sto 2c, 21612, RCN, MPK - 25 Jun 1940, HMCS FRASER - Son of Mr. and Mrs. Jack R. McLachlan, of Assiniboia, Saskatchewan.

 

Stoker McLachlan of Assiniboia was the son of John R. (Jack) McLachlan who came from Glenwood, Pope County, Minnesota, to homestead in the Jackson district west of Assiniboia in 1911. George was farming with his family when he enlisted on August 06, 1939 at Esquimalt, British Columbia a month before the war broke out.

 

Stoker McLachlan died when his ship, HMCS FRASER, was in a collision with HMS CALCUTTA 12 miles due west of Pointe de la Coubre light at the Gironde River mouth and sank as a result with the loss of 65 of her crew.
