McCALLUM, James Bruce (Jim) - Died peacefully April 20 2024, at the age of 92.
Bruce was born on December 13 1931, in the Beaver Lake district of Northern Alberta. He was raised on a small farm until 1954 when at the age of 22, he left the hardship of farming to begin a new life of adventure in the Canadian Navy. Stationed in Victoria, he met and married his sweetheart, Margaret Vann in 1959. They built a life together in the Saanich suburbs, where they raised four children: Stephen, Susan, Malcolm, and Duncan. Bruce was a dedicated father, husband, and community figure as well as an avid outdoorsman, often exploring his favorite Vancouver Island fishing and camping spots with his family. Bruce retired from the navy in 1986 embracing retirement as a sailing instructor and master gardener.
Bruce is survived by his four children, five grandchildren: Jasmine, Morgan, Ben, Magnus, and Liam, and four great grandchildren: Jordynn, Fox, Smokee, and Lily.
A memorial service will be held on Monday, May 6, 2024, 11:00 a.m. at Knox Presbyterian Church, 2964 Richmond Road, Victoria, BC. (McCall Gardens)
