LOMAX, John Rigby - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of John Rigby Lomax. John passed away peacefully in New Westminster, BC, surrounded by his loving family.

John was a devoted husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, uncle, and friend to all who knew him. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by his loved ones.

John was preceded in death by his parents, Clare and James Lomax, his brother Steven, and his grandson Brody. He is survived by his wife of 31 years, Yanina, his son Michael (Lara), his daughter Michelle (Bruno), his brother Lance (Anita), his sisters, Elsie Singleton (Ernie) and Barbara Rotella, his grandchildren, Josh (Helena), Matthew, Colin, Ryan, his great-granddaughter Amelia, and his faithful dog, Maia.

Born in Bury, England, John was the third of five children. He immigrated to Canada with his family on June 25, 1957, in pursuit of a better life. They settled in North Vancouver, BC, where John attended Sutherland High School. At the age of 17, John embarked on a new adventure by joining the Canadian Navy, an experience he cherished throughout his life. He later worked for External Affairs, stationed overseas with his young family. Eventually, John returned to Burnaby, BC, where he worked for the RCMP as a civilian before enjoying a successful 27-year career with BC Hydro.

John was known for his kindness, outgoing personality, and adventurous spirit. He took pride in his athletic abilities, boasting of being the fastest runner and the first overall pick in his softball league. John played soccer as a child and continued into his late 30’s until he replaced a soccer ball with softball. He continued to play softball into his seventies and picked up golf in his sixties. He loved golf and continued to play until he became ill. John had a passion for physical activity. Even during his illness, he hoped for one more round of golf.

In his final months, John fought tirelessly at Royal Columbia Hospital, always cherishing his time with loved ones. His humble nature and gratitude for life never waivered, as he never complained, even in his toughest moments.

John Rigby Lomax leaves behind a legacy of love, kindness, and resilience. He will be deeply missed by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

A Celebration of Life will be held in his honor in the late summer/fall (TBD)
