LEES, Gladys Mary (née GALLANT) (formerly MUISE) - With deep sorrow, we share the news of the passing of our adored Mom, Grammy, and Great-Grammy who departed this life on April 13, 2024, surrounded by the warmth of her family's love. Born in Summerside, PEI, on January 22, 1932, she was the treasured daughter of Millie and Danny Gallant.

She leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories with her brother John (Mona) Gallant of Summerside, PEI; her children, Maurice (Lucy) Muise of Dartmouth, NS; Linda (Dale) O’Brien of Fredericton, NB; Leonard (Shawny) Muise of Norton, NB; Stephen Muise of Hampton, NB; Shelley (Burman) Weber of Fort McMurray, AB; and Michelle Hansen of Fort McMurray, AB. She was a source of immense joy to her grandchildren: Maurice Jr. (Lillian) Muise, Tara-Lee (Dana) Wright, Nick (Kelly) O’Brien, Pat O'Brien, Joelle Muise, step-grandson Brandon Yeomans, Ashleigh and Josh Muise, Mitchell (Tiffany) Weber, Kaitlin (Chris) Dugas, and A.J., Lenny, and Anna Hansen. Her great-grandchildren, Sachin and Taj D’Souza-Muise, Ethan and Brandon Wright, Talia and Maia Weber, Owen Dugas, and Sadie and Lenny Littlejohn, step-great-grandchildren, James and Aliyah Yeomans, will continue to carry her spirit into the future.

She was predeceased by her beloved husbands, Joseph (Joe) Alexander Muise and Joseph Lees; her sister Inez; brothers Leonard and Elmer Gallant; and her parents, Millie and Danny Gallant.

Her life was one of simple joys: playing 45s, SCAT, and Bingo — especially when she won — and cruising in her distinctive little Toyota CHR. Her skilled hands crafted warmth and care, crocheting baby hats, bears, IV-line sleeves, and finger puppets for children’s hospitals. Mom's favorite moments included breakfasts at the Steak & Stein Restaurant and savoring a spinach omelette at Cora’s, as well as reveling in seafood feasts and the camaraderie of Bingo at the Navy Club in Halifax and 45’s at the Senior Centre in Cole Harbour.

Her place in history is marked as the first woman to grace the front page of the Star Weekly in color, and her service in the Navy as a communicator is immortalized at the Stadacona Navy Museum. She would often share touching tales from her Depression-era childhood when lobster sandwiches were a common lunch and journeys to school involved tunnels through towering snowbanks.

Her adventurous spirit carried her across Canada, with special affection for Alberta. She deeply valued her friendships with Sheila Cook, Doreen O’Brien, Lois, Doreen Hood, and her fellow Wrens.

Our heartfelt gratitude goes out to the staff at The Berkeley and 3 West at Dartmouth General for their compassionate care.

Mom's laughter, warmth, and love will resonate with us forever.

A celebration of life, where we will honor her memory and the joy she brought to all of us, will be held on Friday, June 7th, 2024 from 2:00pm – 4:00pm, at the Naval Museum of Halifax, Admiralty House, 2729 Gottingen Street, Halifax, NS. Refreshments will be provided.

The burial is at 1 PM at Saint Alphonsus Cemetery, 53 Pickwauket Rd., Hampton, NB followed by a luncheon at the Lower Norton Community Hall, 250 Pickwauket Rd Hampton, NB on June 8, 2024.

In memory of Mom, donations can be made to the Canadian Cancer Society. (Arbor Memorial)
