MacKINNON, Bruce Elroy - Second World War Naval Veteran, of Riverview, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family at the Moncton Hospital on January 13th, 2010 at the age of 85. Bruce was born in Moncton, NB on October 24th, 1924 and was the son of the late Peter and Helen (Sackler) MacKinnon. Beloved husband of Byrna (Wood) MacKinnon for 62 years; loving father of Ann (David) McDougall of Kentville, NS and Martha (Bruce) DuPlessis of Oakville, ON; proud grandfather of Brock & Luke McDougall and Alex, Andrew & Cecile DuPlessis. Family was very important to Bruce. He served aboard the HMCS Stettler from 1943-1945 on overseas duty. Bruce was employed with C.N.C.P Telecommunications from 1940 until his retirement after 45 years. Bruce was a member of the First Baptist Church in Moncton serving on the Board of Trustees, Financial Committee and Ushers. He was a member of the Probus Club and formerly volunteered with the Karing Kitchen. He will be missed by his bowling and bridge pals. Bruce is also survived by his sisters Elizabeth Trites of Moncton and Janet Anderson of Perth, Scotland; and several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, Bruce was predeceased by one brother Reginald. In keeping with Bruce's wishes cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held from the Riverview Funeral Home on Saturday, January 16th, 2010 at 2pm with Rev. Dr. Richard Jackson officiating. Interment will take place in Alderwood Cemetery. Donations in Bruce's memory may be made to the Friends of the Moncton Hospital, Canadian Cancer Society or to the charity of the donor's choice. Funeral arrangements have been entrusted to Riverview Funeral Home 214 Pine Glen Rd. Riverview, NB.
