In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CONE, Mary Elenore (née DAVIDSON) - Our Mum has passed away in her sleep, and we presume she is now sipping tea and munching on as many shortbread cookies as she wants with all of her favourite friends and relatives in her next adventure. Mary was born in Saskatoon to Helene Abs and Alexander Davidson. She grew up here and graduated from her beloved City Park Collegiate in 1944. At 18, she went to live in Windsor ON for six months, but returned to Saskatoon living here for the rest of her life. She joined The Women's Royal Canadian Naval Service (WRCNS or "Wrens") in 1950, leaving just before her marriage to our dad in 1953. Mum worked for the Hudson's Bay Company at various times for over forty years. She made many lifelong friends among her coworkers. After retirement she faithfully attended the monthly "Bay Luncheons" at the Parktown with other retirees. Mum was predeceased by her parents, her stepfather Chuck Cooper, her stepsister, Phyllis Wilson, her stepmother, Anne Sharpe, brother-in-law Victor Rea, and her husband, Robert Merle Cone. She always felt embraced and loved by her extended Cone family. She is survived by her children Scott (Patricia) and Patricia (Gerry), as well as her siblings Kathy (Tom), Louise, and Alex (Dawn). Mum has tons of friends. Scott and Pat knew they had a cool mom when their high school friends began dropping in to visit her. Even as a pensioner, Mum generously donated to many charities including TeleMiracle, the Mennonite Central Committee, the Salvation Army, the Canadian Cancer Society, the LightHouse, and the Heart and Stroke Foundation. Mum did not want a funeral. If you want to remember her, you could donate to a favourite charity. You could smile and say hello to a stranger. You could be a better neighbour. You could spend more time with friends and relatives. You could volunteer in your community. You could speak out against inequality and do what you can make your community and country a better place.
