MERCER, Winston - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our loving father, Winston Mercer, on Tuesday, June 11, 2024 in Twin Oaks Memorial Hospital in his 92nd year.
Born June 10, 1932 in Bay Roberts, NFLD, he was the only child of Charlotte Greeley. Winston joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1949, serving on various ships until 1959 when he went to work for DND for 26 years as a Mechanical Fitter. While living in Oyster Pond then Gaetz Brook, he was President of the Four Harbour Legion #120 then President of Eastern Marine Legion #161 in Gaetz Brook, along with serving as Branch Service Officer and Deputy Zone Commander. He was very involved in his community, coaching minor and senior hockey for many years.
Winston is survived by three of his children, Glen (late Susan), Wanda (Doug), Gordon (Judy); grand children, Becky (Steve), Glenda (Shaun), Michael, Cindy, Patricia, Amanda, Robie (Stephanie); great grandchildren, Justin, Jordan, Brooklyn, Brady, Lexi, Blake, Ewan, Elias, Aaden and Shiloh.
He is predeceased by his loving wife of 63 years, Verna; daughter, Valerie; and grandson, Benjamin.
Cremation has taken place and a Celebration of Life will take place at the Eastern Marine Legion in Gaetz Brook on Saturday, June 22, 2024 at 1PM. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Eastern Marine Legion. (Arbor Memorial)
