James Douglas Wheatley

Leading Seaman, C.A.F. (Navy)

Died: 31 May 2024

WHEATLEY, James Douglas - age 65, of Porters Lake, passed away peacefully while surrounded by his treasured family May 31, 2024 at Dartmouth General Hospital.

Jamie was a huge hockey fan, and thrilled his boys followed this passion. His years as a coach (be it Hockey, Beavers, Baseball or whatever else Pam volunteered him for ) were among his proudest.

He was an avid lover of the outdoors and always wanted to see a moose up close! He loved birds, nature and building anything with his hands. He always had an idea brewing.

During his days as a bartender, he met his one and only, Pam. He moved on to become a carpenter and then joined the Navy as leading Seaman until retiring. Not one to remain idle, he continued working first at Canadian Tire, and then Costco - making friends along the way.

How to describe Jamie or “Wheats” as he was often called:

•Always had a joke ready…

•Humble, kind, generous of spirit, hard worker, always thinking of others, quiet observer, sharp witted and a trouble maker.

•Dependable and loyal.

•Couldn’t go anywhere without him running in to someone he knows.

•Easy to chat with and laugh with.

•Bright blue eyes and beautiful smile that he always boyishly hid.

•He loved to work hard and play hard and enjoyed his many travels with the Navy and family.

•Appreciated easily and always willing to lend a hand.

•A good son, a good brother, a good husband, a good father, a good friend…a GOOD MAN

He was predeceased by his parents, Bert and Margaret, brother, Tim.

He is survived by his cherished wife, Pam (Murray); sons, Brandon (Tashia), Shane; grandchildren, Quintin, Tayia; brother, Brian (Valerie); sisters, Ruth (Paul), Margot (Gary); nieces, Lauren (Derek /Fiona), Liana; brothers-in-law, Brad (Murray), Mike (Currie); sisters-in-law, Vicki (Murray) and Leanne (Currie)

Gone but never forgotten.

Thank you for all the love, laughter and memories! We will see you down the road, sweet James!!!

Sincere thank you to all the nurses, Dr’s, LPN’s, Palliative Care team and lead nurse Pattie, and to all staff that made our Jamie’s days more comfortable and dignified during his time on the 3rd floor and then 5th floor “penthouse”
