MARSH, Bruce Murray - 69, Dartmouth, passed away December 6, 2003, at home in the company of his loving family, after a courageous battle against an unrelenting illness. Born in Halifax, and raised in Lambeth, Ont., he was a son of the late Alfred and Laura (Lannan) Marsh. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1951, serving until 1978 when he transferred to the Naval Reserve and worked with the Nova Scotia Tattoo for several years. Bruce (also known affectionately as "Swampy") enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He was a great dart player as a young sailor, and could carry a pretty fair tune especially of Irish ballads. He was a member of the Atlantic Chief and Petty Officer's Association. He is survived by his wife, Eileen (Weatherbee); stepdaughter, Mary (Robert Spearing), Hamilton, Ont.; daughters, Janice (Danny Drysdale), Chezzetcook; Laura, Truro; Kathy (Guy Vlaanderen), Kamloops, B.C.; son, Kenneth, Musquodoboit Harbour; sister, Thelma, Simcoe, Ont.; brothers, Ronald (Marilyn), Dartmouth; Donald (Shirley), Lower Sackville; nine grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a number of nieces and nephews. Bruce was predeceased by his first wife, Norma (Martin); sisters, Mavis and June; brothers, Ralph, Darrell, and Douglas in infancy. Cremation has taken place. A committal of ashes will be held at a later date at sea. A memorial service will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, December 13, in Stadacona Chapel, CFB Halifax, Rev. David LeBlanc officiating and Rev. Patricia Malin as organist. Family flowers only. A reception will be held in the chapel hall following the service. Donations may be made to Canadian Cancer Society or a charity of one's choice.
