In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
BROWNSTEIN, Harold - Our family is saddened by the passing of our beloved Harold at the age of 98 on Friday, May 13, 2022. Devoted husband of Natalie Lupovich for almost 76 years. Cherished father and father-in-law of Marlene and the late Victor Eichenwald, and Jeff and Veronika Brzeski. Adored grandfather (GP) of Star Brownstein, Samuel Eichenwald and Shoshana Breiner, Hannah Eichenwald, Sofia, and Dorena Brownstein; and playmate of the light of his life, his great-granddaughter, Lia Eichenwald.
He grew up in a very loving and nurturing family with his parents the late Minnie and the late Benny, siblings the late Gerald (late Shirley), the late Beatrice (late Sol Krupp), the late Morty (Bernice), the late Andre Landsman (Esther), and Irwin (Ghislaine). Brother-in-law of the late Jack Lupovich (Joan). Most beloved friend and brother-of-choice to the late Ted Goldman. Harold's parents instilled the very strong values of tzedakah and the importance of community. A kind and generous soul, he was respected and admired by his family, friends, and colleagues.
Harold was a veteran of World War II, having served in the Royal Canadian Navy. He was a successful businessman in partnership with his dear brother Gerald; and a very committed and valued community leader. He was one of the founders of the Greystone Curling Club (1957), discovering his talent as a skip. In 1980, he was elected as President of the Quebec Golf Association. Following many years of service to the sport as a leader and rules expert, during which he was a rules official at numerous Canadian and British Open Championships, he was elected President of the Royal Canadian Golf Association in 1988.
We are so grateful for the devotion, respect, and outstanding care he received from his extraordinary caregivers: Ester Quillo, Joanne Quillo, Rose Rones, and in the past, Emmylou Quillo, and the late Edna Quillo. Funeral service from Paperman & Sons, 3888 Jean Talon St. W, on Sunday, May 15 at 2:00 p.m. Burial at the Congregation Shaar Hashomayim, 1250 Ch. de la Forêt, Outremont. Donations in his memory may be made to the "Natalie and Harold Brownstein Fund" c/o the Jewish Community Foundation (514) 345-6414.
"He was a good, just, and generous man who had a long and wonderful life." (The Montreal Gazette 14 May 2002)
