WHYMARK, Milton Elwood, AB ST, V34309, RCNVR, MPK - 24 Nov 1944, HMCS SHAWINIGAN - Son of Arthur and Emily Whymark, of Oakwood, Ontario; husband of Lillian Gladys Whymark, of Rockingham Station, Nova Scotia.
AB Whywmark died when HMCS SHAWINIGAN was sunk by U-1228 on 24 Nov 1944. Of her crew of 91, there were no survivors.
Able Seaman Milton E. Whymark of Oakwood is the first sailor from the village and district to be reported as "missing at Sea". Word to this effect was received from the young seaman's wife now residing at Halifax and was forwarded to his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Whymark residents of Oakwood. Seaman Whymark was born in Oakwood and received his early education in the Public School. He was well-Known and quite a lad. He enlisted in 1941. His father is a veteran of the last Great War with four years' service in the infantry to his credit.
