In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
SAWATZKY, Peter - On August 17, 2012 with his wife, the love of his life, by his side, Pete, went peacefully home to be with his Lord.
Born in Siberia, his family immigrated to Canada In 1926 to Chilliwack B.C.
He was in the Navy and saw action on D-Day. He worked in the Pulp Mills in Port Alberni and Kamloops while raising his family. He was a fantastic artist, especially known for his realistic paintings of the old steam trains; an excellent photographer, a self-taught accordionist, and an avid gardener. Peter had a great sense of humor and loved to tell funny real-life stories. He greatly loved his family and many cherished friends.
Pete resided with his wife in Surrey before moving to George Derby, Veteran’s Care Home in Burnaby for last two years. He will be greatly missed by his loving wife, Eula, of 32 years; daughter Val Phelps Duncan, son Dennis (Sharon) Kamloops, and his stepsons Mark (Sheri) Stray, Stan Stray of California; his grandchildren: Sean Phelps (Jodi), Tyler Phelps, Devon (Christy) Phelps. Tina (Steve) Goldsack, Surrey, David (Crystal) Edmonton . Melissa Wheeler, James Dumont and Riley Stray in U.S. Great Grandchildren; Dallas DeHaan, Damon, Rylann Phelps, Aliya, Jesse Goldsack. Brothers: George (Martha) Chilliwack; Bernie (Esther) Calgary; sisters: Kate Fauteux, Chilliwack and Alma Harter, Abbotsford, many nieces and nephews. There will be a memorial for Pete on Tuesday September 18, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. at Christian Life Assembly Church 21277 56th Ave in Langley B.C. (The Chilliwack Progress 17 Aug 2012)
