In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
HILL, Peter - After a year-long battle with cancer, Peter Hill died of a stroke on August 8, with his wife and daughter by his side. Peter was born in Southport, England, on January 22, 1946. Predeceased by his parents, Walter and Helen and sisters Pat and Jocelyn, he leaves to mourn his wife Jan, daughter Lindsay (Oliver), brother Michael, sister Susan, brother-in-law Tony (Jane) and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Peter joined the Navy in his teens, playing the tuba in the HMCS Naden Band. That time in his life held many fond memories for him, and he and his dear friend Shel often regaled us with funny stories about their exploits. Peter taught in Saanich School District for 38 years. He enjoyed team teaching Grade 2 for many years, but his true calling was working with special needs students and their families. He had an innate understanding of the trials they faced and his kindness, knowledge and skill made a huge difference in their lives. Peter became an avid golfer in his thirties, holding memberships at Glen Meadows in North Saanich, Oak Island in Manitoba and Glacier Greens in Comox. He happily shot his age a number of times in the months leading up to his death. Peter was a good man. He was kind and generous with a wicked sense of humour, and he loved us deeply. Our world is a lesser place without him in it. Please, in Peter's name, be kind to a stranger and give red roses to someone you love. A celebration of Peter's life will be held at a later date.
