In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
ADDERLEY, Douglas Edward - Passed peacefully in hospital at age 83 after a brief illness. Survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Valerie, son Darren (Teresa), daughter Tricia, brother Bruce (Georgina), and grandchildren Cleo, Athena, Rebecca, Aylin and Rowan. He has nieces, nephews, cousins and many friends who will miss him as well. Doug was born and raised in Thunder Bay, Ontario to Harry and Cora Adderley. He joined the Navy in 1960 and served 4 years. While stationed in Victoria he fell in love with the city and his wife Val (not necessarily in that order), married in 1967, and stayed for the remainder of his life. Doug worked 35 years for the BC Forest Service and had a special affection for the BC Forest Museum, now the BC Forest Discovery Centre, for which he served on the Board of Directors, holding different positions over the years including Managing Director. Doug, along with Val, was a long-time member of St. John the Divine Anglican Church and served as a verger, chalice bearer and volunteered his time for everything from sanding pews to working sound for services. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation to the BC Forest Discovery Centre in Doug's honour. A memorial service will be held at St. John the Divine, 1611 Quadra Street, Victoria, on Saturday, September 14, 2024, at 1:00 pm. All are welcome. (The Thunder Bay Chronicle Journal 11 Sep 2024)
