LAWSON, George William - aged 99, passed away at Mississauga Trillium Hospital, with his precious family by his side. Born in Montreal, Quebec on May 13, 1917, he was the son of the late Alfred Lawson and the late Florence Gertrude Wookey. During the Second World War, George served from 1940-1945 with the Royal Canadian Navy, most memorably participating in the Battle of the Atlantic and the hazardous Arctic convoys to Murmansk, Russia. George was predeceased by his beloved wife of 62 years, Muriel Young, who died in 2013. After her death, he continued to live independently in his own home in Toronto until his final couple of days. He is dearly missed by his daughters Barbara (Ron Greaves) and Ann and his son Grant (Angela Balan), by his grandchildren Kimberly, Clark, Marcus, Kate and Allison, his sister-in-law Elizabeth Lawson, his nephew Ian Spencer and great-nephews Nicholas and Michael. He was predeceased by his siblings Evelyn, May, Betty, Patricia and Fred (Happy) Lawson, his niece Janet, and his nephew Peter. At George's request, there will be no funeral. A celebration of George's life will be held at a later date. Interment will be at Mount Royal Cemetery, Montreal. Flowers gratefully declined. (The Montreal Gazette 10 Mar 2017)
