DeMONE, William Lorne - 78, died Tuesday, February 16, 1999, in Hants Community Hospital, Windsor. Born July 16, 1920, in Bridgewater, he was a son of the late William Albert and Alberta Theadora (Whynot) DeMone. He was a former member of the RCNR during the Second World War, serving as leading cook on the Prince Henry and Kincardine. "Dutchie" the Baker, was the proprietor of the Windsor Pastry Shop, O'Brien Street, Windsor, for 30 years and creator of the "Hermit" cookie. He was a 48-year member of Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 9, Windsor. He was a longtime treasurer of the West Hants Historical Society and a founding member of the Men's Club of Christ Church, Windsor. He was a loving husband and father, and will be greatly missed by family and friends. He is survived by his wife, the former Eileen Margaret (Lake) Hardiman; son, David Lorne and wife Madelaine, Bridgewater; daughters, Gail Margaret and husband Sheldon Crowe, Fort St. John, B.C.; Janet Lynn and companion Ernest MacKinnon, Lower Sackville; grandchildren, Patricia DeMone, Holly DeMone, Kateland Crowe, Denver Crowe; great-grandson, Avery Lorne DeMone. Also surviving are his brother, Robert Leigh DeMone, Bridgewater; several nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by grandson, Robert Lorne James DeMone in infancy; brothers, Freddie, Harold, Horton, Frank, and sisters, Helen, Vera, Gladys, Marion, Claire and Joyce. Visitation 2-4, 7-9 p.m. today, legion service 7 p.m. today, both in Lohnes-Beazley Funeral Home, 419 Albert St., Windsor. Funeral service will be held 2 p.m. Friday, February 19, in Christ Church, King Street, Windsor, Rev. David Curry officiating, assisted by Rev. Everett Hill. Reception to follow in the church hall. Burial in Maplewood Cemetery, Windsor, following the service. Flowers from family only. Donations may be made to Christ Church, Windsor; Hants Community Hospital, Windsor; Parkinson's Foundation of Canada, Nova Scotia Division, or charity of your choice.
