MacLEAN, Ronald S. (Ron) - Age 79 of Parrsboro. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ronald S. MacLean on Friday, August 23, 2024 at the Cumberland Regional Health Care Centre, Amherst surrounded by family. Born in Advocate Harbour, he was a son of the late St. Clair and Vivian (Bailey) MacLean.
Ron was an avid outdoorsman who enjoyed hunting and fishing in his youth, and was a proud Navy Veteran. He joined the Navy in 1961 and served for 25 years. Upon his retirement, he opened an antique shop and auction service in Parrsboro, and more recently in Great Village. Ron rarely missed an auction and his weekends were often spent at flea markets where he enjoyed finding treasures and connecting with others who shared his interests. He was a past member of the Board of Directors at the Crossroads Co-op in Parrsboro and served as a past member on the Board of Trustees at the Parrsboro Baptist Church. He was a life member of the Parrsboro Legion Branch #45, having served as Vice-President and, on many committees including liaison between the Legion and the Handley Page Air Cadet Squadron #689. Ron was always committed to supporting his fellow veterans and the community he loved.
He is survived by his wife of 61 years, Sandra (Forbes) MacLean; daughters, Shelley Woodworth (Allen), Carrolls Corner; Rhonda Gale (Sterling), Elmsdale; his beloved grandchildren, Nadine (Daniel), Stephanie (Brian) and Cole; great-grandchildren, Sofia, Aubrey, Callie, Blake; a brother, Ernest, Saint John, NB; special sister, Joan (Czapalay) Cormier; many nieces and nephews. Predeceased by sisters, Grace and Thelma; a brother, Leroy ‘Red’. Above all, Ron was a caring person whose kindness touched the lives of many. His legacy will live on through the family and friends who cherished him.
Visitation 12-2pm on Friday, August 30, 2024 at Smith’s Funeral Home, Parrsboro, where funeral service will follow at 2pm, David Forbes officiating. Burial in the Parrsboro Baptist Cemetery. Reception to follow at Parrsboro Legion Branch #45. Memorial donations in Ron’s memory may be made to the Hanley Page Air Cadet Squadron #689, Parrsboro or to a charity of choice.
