In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
GOULD, Joseh Forsyth - passed away peacefully on July 23 2024 at the age of 92 Years, at the Marjorie Willoughby Hospice In Kamloops B.C, with family members at his side.
From working on his family dairy farm at a very young age, Joe enlisted in the Navy on June 12 1949, at the age of 17 years old. It gave him the opportunity to sail the seas, as well as sharpen his boxing skills. He served on Cornwallace, Micmac, Stadacona, Swansea, Wallaceburg and the Iroquois during the Korean War. On October 2 1952 during an inshore Patrol, the Iroquois was hit by a shore battery. The ship suffered casualties and had many wounded on that day. Joe served until June 12 1954 when he took an honorable discharge in Halifax at the age of 22.
Following Joe's naval career, he travelled west and worked road construction and seismic line cutting in B.C as well as Alberta. He had taken a job for a few years as a lighthouse keeper in the Queen Charlotte Islands in the Mid 60s. In 1969/70 he moved his family to Wembley Alberta, as he had started a career with the Alberta Government, working in road construction and maintenance, later on switching over to a forestry based position where he would finish out his work life setting up bomber bases in both Western Canada as well as northern California as a contractor. Joe was also Involved in starting Wembley Minor Hockey and was also a town councillor for a few terms. After retiring he spent a few years in Grande Prairie as well as Sherwood Park and then moved to Kamloops where he lived until his passing.
Predeceased By His Father Lawrence in 1960 and Mother "Taddy" in 1959 and Brothers Mac 1960 and George in 2015, Daughters Debra (Debbie) 2012, and Keri 1963.
He will be sadly missed by his oldest sister Mildred Luckham of Woodstock, sons, Lawrence (Kris) Gould of Grande Prairie, Donald (Naomi) Gould of Ft Saskatchewan, And Gary (De) Gould of Kamloops B.C, Gary Purves of Grande Prairie and many nephews and nieces. Grandchildren: Chris (Jess) Purves, Jamie (Lee) Rombough, Billy/Allen (Kim) Gould, Courtney Gould (Craig Sagert), Kayla (Nee Gould) Anton Snyman, Tori (Matt) Rousseau, Kristina Walker. Nine Great Grandchildren, Delilah, Athena, Hayden, Paxton, Ozzie, Charlie, Lyle, Kiana, Jordan, Kaiden.
A special thank you goes out to the Marjory Willoby Hospice crew as well as the staff on 5s in Kamloops Hospital, and Chartwell as all you folks did a fantastic Job, and to Dr Susan Vlahos who dad classed as a friend as well as his physician. Also thanks to SLt. Jelinic for the thoughtful gift from the HMCS Winnipeg in dads final weeks as it was greatly appreciated.
