Duncan Archibald (Butch) Carmichael

 

Leading Seaman Electrical Technician (Air), 30543-H, RCN

 

Born: 20 Aug 1939          Died: 23 Jul 2024

 

CARMICHAEL, Duncan Archibald (Butch) - Was launched on April 20th, 1939. He sailed away on July 23rd, 2024.

 

His parents, Allen Carmichael and Minnie May Carmichael (Nee Longhurst). Butch had three brothers Fred and Allen Carmichael and Randall Longhurst. They teased Butch unmerciful, but they took Butch everywhere they went. They never missed a Disney show, Cowboy movie, war movie or Saturday morning serials. They also took Butch to their Boy Scout meetings. The Scout Master got a scout hat for Butch, but it didn't fit. Butches two brothers loved him very much, and he loved them very much.

 

Things changed, when the brothers started going with girls. They didn't want him around. Butch has 2 granddaughters, 1 grandson, 1 great granddaughter and 1 great grandsons.

 

Butch attended Queen Mary, Prince Charles Schools and Belleville Collegiate High School.

 

Butch played all sports but excelled in football. He was captain of the football team for two years.

 

Butch was also in the Royal Sea Cadets as a bugler.

 

Butch's pride and joy was his 1928 Model A ford.

 

On January 10th, 1957, Butch joined the Royal Canadian Navy. After 5 months of basic training, Butch was transferred to the HMCS Huron. Butch slept in a hammock for the next 18 months. Butch traveled to the Bermuda and area, then it was off to the Mediterranean. We visited the Azores, Gibraltar, Malta, Italy and then we were shipwrecked in France. After two months in France, our bow was patched up and we sailed for Halifax. After a considerable amount of problems at sea, we arrived in Halifax on December 24th, 1958.

 

On January 4th, 1960, Butch started his electrical training, as an Aircraft Electrician at the HMCS Stadacona, after 6 months Butch was drafted to the HMCS Shearwater Air Station, to complete his training.

 

Butch went on leave in Belleville his hometown. He then met his woman of his dreams, Doreen Luck. They got married on July 15th, 1961. They had two sons Brian, and Bruce.

 

Butch was a 32nd degree Scottish Rite Mason, Past Master of the Hazeldean lodge, Shriner, and Tunis Temple Shrine Clown.
One of the most enjoyable things Butch liked was seeing his wife and sons laugh.

 

Butch's last word were; LOOK TO SEE ME NO MORE!

 

Service will take place at Elmwood Cemetery Belleville Ontario Saturday August 24th at 11:00 AM. Friends and family will gather at 724 Blessington Road, Belleville Ont.
