In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
WALLACE, Jack William (Bill) - On September 21st our family said goodbye to their biggest fan.
Jack "Bill" was born in Hespeler, Ontario in 1935. He was the only child of John Wilfred and Ada (Booth Haywood) Wallace.
He joined the RĒN at age 16. After basic training in Cornwallis, NS, his first posting was to Halifax where he met the love of his life, Elsa at an Olympic Gardens dance.
Jack retired from the RCN in 1977 as a Master Warrant Officer 2nd class cooking branch. Thank you for your 26 years of service to our country. He was an excellent cook. His steak and kidney and meat pies were world famous to all who had the pleasure to enjoy them.
He was passionate about sailing and was a Charter Member of Grand Lake Yacht Club, founded in 1981. He won seven club championships with his Tanzer 22, "Katie Lynne".
After retirement from the military, he was manager of Atlantic Building Cleaning, Scotia Square and in his later years, an insurance broker with RK Wilson Insurance, Enfield, NS. He was proud of what he accomplished in life and so was his family.
He was a devoted son, husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, uncle and friend. His love of cars and sports, keen wit and delightful sense of humour, teasing and whistling will be remembered by all who knew him. He was an all-round great guy.
He was predeceased by his wife, Elsa (Elsie) Chaddock with whom he shared 64 years of marriage.
He was proud of his two daughters, Linda (Bob) Wilson and Helen (Don) Langille, Enfield, NS, grandchildren Katie (Paul) McGrory, Calgary; Keith Wilson (Holly Chessman), Dartmouth; and five great grandchildren Clarke, Jack, Avery, Brooks and Spencer and many nieces and nephews.
When we told Dad we loved him, which was often, he would reply same, same. So, to you Dad, same, same until we meet again.
To the 6 West staff of Camp Hill Veterans Memorial, you are unsung heroes and angels in disguise. Your care and compassion for Jack will never be forgotten.
In Jack's memory, donations can be made to St. Margaret's Anglican Church in Oakfield, NS, or the SPCA.
A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday October 6, 2024 between 2:00pm and 4:00pm, in T.J Tracey Cremation and Burial Specialists, 71 McQuade Lake Crescent, Beechville, NS B3S 1C4 (The Halifax Chronicle Herald 24 Sep 2024)
