DOUGLAS, Albert, AB ST, V9393, RCNVR, MPK - 13 Sep 1942, HMCS OTTAWA - Son of John and Elizabeth Douglas, of Keewatin, Ontario; husband of Alma Irene Douglas, of Carlyle, Saskatchewan.
Able Seaman Douglas died when HMCS OTTAWA H60 was torpedoed and sunk by U-91 on 13 Sep 1942. Of her crew of 175, plus 50 survivors they had picked up, there were only 69 survivors.
Able Seaman Albert Douglas, Service No. V9393 R.C.N.V.R., 27, who was reported missing, believed killed, following the sinking of the Canadian destroyer Ottawa, is the son of Mr. and Mrs. John Douglas, Keewatin, Ontario. Until recently they resided at 346 Carlton Street, Winnipeg. His wife, the former Alma Beatty, of Carlyle, Sask., is living in Halifax. Able Seaman Douglas was born in Montréal, came to Winnipeg with his parents as a two year old son and received his education at Hugh John Macdonald School. He was employed by the B-A Oil Company prior to his enlistment in April, 1941. The following September he was posted to Halifax, and for the past eight months has been on convoy duty. He has three brothers and one sister: George, who is serving in the American army; James, in Philadelphia, and John and Mrs. W. Allan, in Winnipeg.
