HOBECK, Henning Jurgen Heinz (Joe) - 83, passed away quietly at his home in Eastern Passage, on October 17, 2024. Born in Berlin, Germany, on July 9, 1941, Henning lived a life defined by dedication, both to his beloved family and his country. At the age of 18, he embarked on a remarkable 37-year career in the Navy, ultimately achieving the rank of Chief Petty Officer. Henning’s service included time in the Gulf War, where he proudly and honorably served his nation.
Beyond his military career, Henning’s greatest joy came from his deep love for his wife, Jean Esther Hobeck (née Messervey). Together for over 50 years, Henning and Jean built a life filled with love, laughter, and memories that will forever be cherished by those who knew them. His devotion to Jean was unyielding, and their bond was the heart of his life.
Henning Jurgen is predeceased by his wife Jean, sister Barbara, brother Berndt (Bernie), mother Lisa Horacek (née Jahnke), and father Heinz Hobeck . His loving family survives him: his sister Dagmar Bilyk; his sons Mark (Cara Hobeck) and Michael (Brandon Arsenault); his cherished grandchildren, Lisa, Samantha, Khaylie, Zandra, Lennon, Rhys, and Ewan, and great-grandchildren Keira, Vance and Noah. His family will forever carry the lessons and love he imparted to them.
The service will take place Friday, October 25 at 1:00 PM at the Eastern Passage Legion, 1341 Main Rd, Eastern Passage, N.S. Donations can be made in Henning’s memory to the Poppy Fund care of the Eastern Passage Legion.
