In memory of those who have Crossed the Bar
CASSELL, Lionel Christopher Victor (Chris) - It is with both sadness and relief after a lengthy illness that we share the news of Chris’s peaceful passing on October 27, 2024. He was surrounded by the love of his family on the eve of his 57th wedding anniversary.
Born August 30 1942 in Ottawa, he was the son of the late Henry “Harry” and Lillian (Desormeaux) Cassell.
He is survived by his wife of 57 years – she’s claiming every minute of this! - Eileen Esther (MacMillan) Cassell, along with children; Krista (Chris Harris), Danny and Esther (Patrick Boutilier) and grandchildren; Nicholas & Zachary Harris and Lucas & Bryan Boutilier and sister; Norna Deluney.
He was predeceased by his special son and buddy Jamey, as well as siblings; Leonard, Noreen, Ronald, Sherry, Merlin and Lynn.
Following a career in the Navy that ultimately led he and Eileen to settle in Eastern Passage to raise their family along with the growing community, he enjoyed a second professional life as an office manager within the Nova Scotia government in addictions services.
As a dedicated father and husband, he enthusiastically supported the interests and activities of all - including even the unfortunate and regrettable oboe period.
He served as an especially devoted pet grandfather.
Volunteerism being a cornerstone in his life, he remained active after retirement through his work at Ocean View Manor and Cole Harbour Woodside United Church, combining his enjoyment of people, good conversation, music and reading.
Chris spent his last year of life supported by caregivers at home through Parkwood Home Care and more recently living at Maplestone Enhanced Care facility, where he felt well loved and cared for. His family is deeply appreciative of everyone’s effort and dedication to making these days as easy and comfortable as possible for him, while also bringing the laughs that he so relished.
There will be no visitation or funeral by request. Private burial will occur on November 2, 2024, and the family invites everyone to attend an open reception to follow from 1:30-3:30 at Fisherman’s Cove Heritage Centre, 4 Government Wharf Rd, Eastern Passage. Please come to share a story and connect as Chris would’ve enjoyed.
