McKECHNIE, Morton Hugh, AB, V10554, RCNVR, MPK - 13 Sep 1942, HMCS OTTAWA - Son of John and Frances Marion McKechnie, of Regina, Saskatchewan.
Morton McKechnie was working as a salesman for Coca Cola when he enlisted on January 30, 1941 at Regina, HMCS Queen. He was born and educated in Regina. He had two brothers, Stanley Morton and William Morton, who also served in the Navy during the Second World War.
AB McKechnie died when HMCS OTTAWA H60 was torpedoed and sunk by U-91 on 13 Sep 1942. Of her crew of 175, plus 50 survivors they had picked up, there were only 69 survivors.
