CNAV / CFAV ENDEAVOUR AGOR 171
Anti-Submarine Warfare Systems Research Vessel
Designed primarily for anti-submarine warfare (ASW) systems research, ENDEAVOUR was fitted with a small flight deck, a heavy winch for towing sonar equipment, a bow thruster for precise positioning and noise reduction features. In her long career with DND, ENDEAVOUR was employed in projects that ranged from one of the first demonstrations of the modern towed array sonar concept for ASW operations (using a modified survey array), to propeller and wake trials, sea-keeping problems and signature reduction work. Between 1989 and 1991, ENDEAVOUR had gone through a series of alterations and additions resulting in what could be called a complete refit, costing near $52 million. ENDEAVOUR remained operational until mid-1999 when she was removed from service. Sold in 2001 for $570,000, she was converted into a luxury yacht.
