HMCS ALGERINE
Phoenix Class Sloop
HMS ALGERINE was a Phoenix-class sloop steel screw sloop of the Royal Navy. She was launched at Devonport in 1895, saw action in China during the Boxer Rebellion, and later served on the Pacific Station based at Esquimalt before the First World War. Her crew was sent east in 1914 to man NIOBE, and ALGERINE was lent to the RCN in 1917 to serve for the duration of the war as a depot ship at Esquimalt. Sold in 1919 and converted for salvage work, ALGERINE was wrecked in Principe Channel, B.C., on 13 Oct 1923.
