Built by the Port Arthur Shipbuilding Co., she was commissioned on 18 Jun 1954 as HMCS CHALEUR 144, and paid off on 30 Sep 1954. She was transferred on 09 Oct 1954, to the French Navy, which re-named her La Dieppoise.
