HMCS GLACE BAY 701
Kingston Class Maritime Coastal Defence Vessel
Built by Halifax Shipyards Ltd., Halifax, N.S., GLACE BAY was launched on 22 Jan 1996 and commissioned on 26 Oct 1996 at Sydney, N.S. In Sep 1998 she part in Operation Persistence, the recovery effort after the crash of Swissair Flight 111 off Peggy's Cove, N.S. On 25 Mar 1999, HMCS GLACE BAY 701, HMCS KINGSTON 700 and HMCS ANTICOSTI MSA110, departed Halifax for NATO exercise BLUE GAME 99 off Denmark.
In honour of Sgt. Jimmy MacNeil of Glace Bay, NS, who was killed by a roadside bomb on 21 Jun 2010, the Chiefs and Petty Officers mess aboard HMCS GLACE BAY was renamed in his memory. (click here to read the news article)
