(GBY001) HMCS GOOSE BAY circa 2005 // Here's a picture of GOOSE BAY taken from SHAWINIGAN during the 2005 Loyal Mariner trip. We hit a peak of over 13M waves during a storm on our way to the Azores. At the height of the storm we rolled to 39 degrees and our props came out of the water and both shafts tripped causing a Engineering Emergency. The sweepdeck was under water as we rolled, almost causing a number of ships crew to be washed over the side while they were out on deck securing equipment. We got the shaftlines up and carried on. // Courtesy of Rick Bungay (GBY002) HMCS GOOSE BAY 707, the French tall ship L'Hermione and Nova Scotia's own Bluenose II, sail in to Lunenburg, NS, 18 Jul 2015 // Photographer: LS Dan Bard, Formation Imaging Services Halifax // DND/RCN Photo.
