Built by Consolidated SB Corp., New York, NY, Grizzly was commissioned on 17 Jul 1941, on the west coast, but the condition of her engines made it impractical for her to function effectively. She was therefore towed to Prince Rupert on 17 Jul 1941 for use as a stationary guard ship and examination vessel. In Jun 1944 she was taken to Victoria, where her hull was found to be in poor condition. Paid off on 17 Jun 1944, she was broken up at Victoria 1945/46.
