LOGAN, William Muir (05 Oct 1924 - 25 Oct 2017) - WWII Veteran, passed away peacefully October 25, 2017 at Renfrew Victoria Hospital. Cherished husband of Jean (nee Forgie) for 66 years. Kind and caring Dad of seven children, Linda (Michel Renaud), Billy (Libby Lewis), Jane (Andy Smith), Ruth (Joe Proulx), Lona (Reg Scully), Patricia (Bernie Luker), Alison (Don McNulty); grandfather of seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Dear son of the late Harvey and Maybelle Logan. Bill was a World War II veteran of the Navy serving on the HMCS Trillium and HMCS Ottawa. He started his career as an electrician with Ken Boldt electrical contractors in 1947 and worked many years as a foreman with UNIVEX. He was a fifty year member of the I.B.E.W. Union. A long term serving member of both the Royal Canadian Legion Branch #148 and the Renfrew Presbyterian Church. Bill will be fondly remembered by family and friends for the tireless hours he spent on the neighbourhood rink when they were younger. He enjoyed the outdoors and spent many long happy hours at his properties. Bill/Dad you will be sadly missed, never forgotten, forever in our hearts, thoughts and prayers. WHITLUM, Frederick A.C. (23 Jun 1926 - 17 Oct 2017) - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Fred Whitlum, age 91, on Tuesday morning October 17 with his daughters Karyn and Darcy at his side. We remember Fred as a loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and brother. He was predeceased by his wife of 62 years Zena (nee Matwichuk). Remembered fondly by his children Karyn (Gregory Glenn) and Darcy (William Flynn); grandchildren Rebecca, Philip, Lindsey and Ashley; great grandchildren: Ty, Carys, Melise and Vienna and brother Ken Whitlum. Fred grew up in Winnipeg, Manitoba with his cherished family – parents Fred and Sarah Whitlum (Kell) brother Ken and sister Joyce. Growing up in the Great Depression, Fred learned to be thrifty and practical, but most of all, he learned to celebrate all of the small things in life. On January 31, 1944 Fred entered the Naval Forces of Canada, serving on two naval war vessels during his military career. The HMCS Chebogue, which was torpedoed in the North Atlantic by U Boat &-1227 on October 4, 1944, was later decommissioned. The conclusion of his service found him aboard the HMCS Arnprior until his discharge on January 17, 1946. Fred was quietly proud of his service to his country, he wanted always to be remembered as a “Navy Man”. Interrupted only by his two years at war, Fred's working career began on June 1, 1943, when he learned the trade of Carman with the Canadian National Railway. He was later promoted to Wrecking Foreman with the CNR. He concluded his working career with the Federal Government Safety Commodities Division serving a total of 48 years of Public Service before retirement. Fred lived his life with grace, love and dignity. The world has lost a true gentleman and the lives of those he touched are richer for it. It is hard to forget someone who gave us so much to remember. A family Memorial Service was held on Monday, October 30, 2017 at O'Neill Funeral Home in Stouffville, Ontario. If desired, in lieu of flowers donations in Fred's name may be made to the Alzheimer's Society.

HOUGHTON, Michael Llewellyn - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Michael Llewellyn Houghton in Victoria, BC. He is survived by his partner of 25 years, Margaret Wood, his son, Christopher, his daughter, Alexandra (Ross), his beloved grandson, Darrach Llewellyn (Wynn), his sister, Kathleen Nichols and her children Michael, Allison and Cluny and is predeceased by his former wife, Gail Granger Houghton (née Dochstader). Born in Victoria, his family moved to Ottawa in 1937. Michael attended Lakefield College then served as a Midshipman with the RCN and attended Dalhousie University before marrying Gail Granger Dochstader in 1958. Mike was a force of nature with boundless energy; a true entrepreneur who loved to make things happen. Each adventure undertaken with an indomitable spirit and the belief that anything is possible. Nowhere was this truer than in his lifelong passion for sailing. He leaves a large hole in the lives of those he loved and was loved by and will be deeply missed. ADAMS, Thomas Stanley (1924 - 2017) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Tom Adams. Born and raised in Kew, west of Millarville, Tom was the sixth of the ten children born to Herb and Hazel Adams. He was part of a farm family and although he worked in a lumber mill and served in the Royal Canadian Navy, his goal was to one day raise his own family on a farm. After a short stint working in the oil patch in the Edmonton area, he and his wife Jessie and three children moved back south to Jessie's parents farm, The Bradfield, and set down their farming roots. A trapper and a hunter, Tom augmented the family income and fed every hungry soul who stopped and stayed or just passed through. His next move with Jessie and a total of six kids in tow was just a short distance to Priddis where he realized his lifetime dream, his own farm. He served his community and in 1962 supervised the construction of Meota Gas Co-op's pipeline system, helping to start the first natural gas co-op that was owned, built and managed by co-op members. He enjoyed thirty years working for Meota. He is survived by his beloved wife of almost seventy years, Jessie as well as his six children, 10 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren. He also is survived by three of his sisters: Betty Adamcik, Phyllis Mangan and Ruth Giroux. CASSIDY, William John (Bill), P1WU, RCN (10 Nov 1935 - 25 Oct 2017) - The love of my life is free from his suffering. Mourning his passing are Joy, his loving wife of 59 years, 9 months and 12 days, son John (Lynn), daughter Alice (George Campbell), grandchildren Alexander (studying in Paris), Élise (Holly Lam) and Brie (Matt Mooney). He also leaves brothers Frank (Joan) and George (Pat), Hardsand relatives, many nieces, nephews, and cousins, Navy and other friends spanning Newfoundland to BC. Bill was predeceased by his mother when he was 15, our infant son Billie in 1958, his dad and step-mom and most recently, brother Ted. Born in North Bay and growing up in Oshawa, Ontario, Bill joined the Navy in 1953 and served on both coasts, retiring in 1973. For many years, Bill and I were active in car clubs (VCCA and Chev Club of America), buying, selling and restoring cars and going on many local and out of town runs and meets. Family vacations included driving to Ontario to visit relatives, camping on the island and trips to California and Florida with my parents. Of course there was the drive from Nova Scotia to Victoria in a 1963 Simca with our border collie Shep and young John and Alice all in the back seat. Bill and I loved to go on bus trips, visiting the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, Mt. Rushmore, San Francisco, Palm Springs, Reno, Las Vegas, Death Valley and many casino junkets. Bill was a member of the Chief and PO Association, Esquimalt Seniors, 292 Legion and Seniors Group. On October 11, Bill went on a scenic drive with the Broadmead Veterans Day Program and I was told he had such a happy time that morning. That night, I had to call the ambulance and Bill went downhill from there. Bill will always be remembered for his million dollar smile. Always in our hearts is this truly gentle man. Rest in peace, my darling. I will love you forever. 'Til we meet again. No service. No flowers. COOPER, Norman Roland - a former resident of Pleasantville, passed away on October 23, 2017. His loving wife of 63 years, Alice Marie Cooper, predeceased him in 2013. He is survived by his sons James Douglas Cooper and Ronald Charles Cooper (wife - Carol Ann Cooper), granddaughter Robin Cooper Stoutenburg (husband Christian Stoutenburg) and great-grandchildren Alexandra, Lindsay and Charlotte Stoutenburg. Daniel Christopher Cooper, grandson, and Alma Dedera, sister-in-law, also survive him. Norman was born in Victoria, British Columbia, Canada on February 6, 1924. His parents were William and Kathleen Cooper. Norman's sister, Lillian Money of Victoria, BC and his brother, W. Charles Cooper of Vancouver, BC both predeceased him. Norman graduated from Victoria High School in 1942, and enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and served his country during World War II aboard a destroyer in the North Atlantic and the English Channel. After the War, Norman attended Victoria College and later transferred to Parks College of Aeronautical Technology (St. Louis University) in St. Louis, MO. He graduated from Parks College with a Bachelor's Degree in Aeronautical Engineering. After a short period of employment in the aviation industry, Norman joined Union Carbide Corporation in New York City in 1950 as a technical representative. During his 35 year career with Union Carbide, Norman was primarily involved in the automotive engineering division, which produced Prestone Antifreeze and other Prestone automotive products. Norman received various awards from the professional engineering societies he was a member of during his career with Union Carbide. Norman retired from Union Carbide in 1985. During his retirement years, Norman enjoyed vacationing in various countries, spending time with his grandchildren and spending the winters in Lakeland, Florida. MAHOOD, Robert Bruce (Bob) (1926 - 2017) - It is with great sadness that we announce that Bob Mahood passed away peacefully at Glenmore Lodge on October 26, 2017. Bob is survived by his loving wife Florence (Flo), son Bruce and grandson Mathew. Bob was predeceased by his son Ian and brother Alex. Bob was born in Athabasca, Alberta and attended school in Anyox, BC and North Vancouver. At age 17, Bob joined the Royal Canadian Navy, serving in the Second World War. On his return, he began working for the National Cash Register Company in Victoria. In 1955, he was transferred to Kelowna where he met Flo. They were married the following year in Dayton Ohio, where Bob was attending Technical School. His 39-year career with NCR as Manager of Technical services took the family to Saskatoon, Sudbury, Vancouver and back to Kelowna. Bob loved playing golf as a member of the Kelowna Golf and Country Club for over 30 years. He was an avid reader and member of Toastmasters. He enjoyed the outdoors - hiking, fishing, hunting, trap shooting and cross-country skiing. He loved travelling, especially with the RV after retirement. We are grateful to the staffs of Brookhaven Care Centre and Glenmore Lodge who provided loving care to Bob this past year. Bob was a devoted husband, father and friend who will be dearly missed. A service to honor Bob's life will be held at the Cathedral Church of St. Michael and All Angels on Saturday, November 4th at 1:30 pm, 608 Sutherland Ave, Kelowna, BC. Reception to follow. RUMRILL, Kendal S. (1925 – 2017) - passed away at Olds, Alberta on October 21, 2017 at the age of 92 years. Kendal was predeceased by his loving wife Coreli, his son in law Walter Wojtowich and his grandson Corey Ancelot. He leaves behind his four children, Vivian Wojtowich, Royal (Linda) Rumrill, Kendra (Miles) Frank, Carol (Jim) Hageman; eight grandchildren, Mardie (David), Cristy, Richard (Melissa), Shane, Rodney (Kerry), Karroll (John), Karlene (Steve), Kaycie and Jordan; and fourteen great-grandchildren. Kendal was a loving, caring beautiful soul who put family above all else. He was a man of honour and he served his country in WWII in the Royal Canadian Navy and the Army reserves for many years after. Kendal also drove milk trucks and was the head caretaker in the Calgary school system for many years. He had a big heart and spent countless weekends, even after retirement, painting and doing repairs on fences for seniors, mostly widows from his church and the school community. Kendal loved camping, especially with his children and grandchildren. He loved being in the water. He was an avid water skier back in his youth. His last waterskiing with his children and grandchildren was at the age of 70 years. SATURLEY, Michael John (Mike) (06 Nov 1926, Torpoint, Cornwall, England - 21 Oct 2017 Calgary, Alberta) - at 90 years young, Mike joined his beautiful wife Claudie on Saturday, October 21, 2017 for their first of many dinner parties in the sky. Having come to Canada by ship from England before the age of 2, Mike called Victoria, Ottawa and Calgary home. Having attended University of Victoria and University of British Columbia (Class of '48) Mike obtained his Bachelor of Commerce. From his first job at Victoria Public Library he moved on to The Hudson's Bay and then BC Hospital Insurance. Whether it was his time in the Navy Reserves or his many hours of service with the Kiwanis Club, Mike assembled an interesting array of characters who peppered his many stories along the way. After a 37-year-career in Sales and Management with Richardson Securities, Mike capped off his retirement with a rewarding decade at Nortel Corkstown. He is remembered by so many for his love of conversation and kind demeanour. Always ones for adventure, Mike and Claudie started the new millennium by following their kids to Alberta and lived their last chapter as enthusiastic Calgarians. Mike is survived by his brother David (Judy); his daughters Marilee and Alyssa (Kevin); son Adam; also fondly remembered and greatly missed by his beloved granddaughter Kaitlyn, and his devoted grandson Kirby who was always by his side. SHURMER, Raymond William Allan (19 Jul 1926, Cairns, AB - 30 Oct 30, 2017, Calgary, AB) - beloved husband of Laura Shurmer (nee Bevan) of Calgary, AB, was called suddenly to his eternal home, on October 30, 2017 at the age of 91 years. Ray served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and served on the DEW Line. He worked with Petro Can and finished his working career with the Fr. Lacombe Care Centre. Ray volunteered with Meals on Wheels and Heritage Park for many years. Ray is survived by his loving wife Laura, six children, Lorraine (Mike) Flynn, Byron Shurmer, Susan Symington, Kevin (Rita) Shurmer, James (Gailene) Shurmer, Bryn (Janine) Shurmer; seventeen grandchildren; nine great- grandchildren; two sisters Marg Meilke and Jean Boisvert; one brother Gerald Shurmer, as well as numerous nieces and nephews. TITUS, Joseph G., Chaplain (Class II), RCN (16 Nov 1929 - 28 Oct 2017) - The Rev. Joe Titus passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on Oct. 28th, two weeks short of his 88th birthday. Born on Grand Manan Island, NB, he graduated from UNB and Wycliffe College and had a varied career in the Anglican Church with the Columbia Coast Mission in B.C., the parish of Oak Point, N.B., the Royal Canadian Navy (Staff Chaplain 2nd Canadian Escort Sqn, Pacific), and the Church of the Advent in Colwood. He loved camping and the outdoors, was involved in the Junior Forest Wardens, and had a life-long interest in the Boy Scouts of Canada. In retirement, he and Joan, his wife of 63 years, volunteered at the Sooke Museum, made almost a dozen camper van trips across Canada to visit family and friends, and enjoyed over-looking Sooke Basin from their home of over 50 years, where friends and acquaintances were always welcome. He leaves Joan, the love of his life, five children (Stephen, Brian, David, Peter, Anne), their spouses, seven grandchildren, and five great-grandchildren. Many thanks to the unknown paramedics, the RCMP (A. MacLean), coroner (A. Washbrook) and funeral home (W. Buckley) for their empathetic and caring approach with the family. Lovingly remembered by his wife Sheila; his sons, Wayne and Glen (Sandi); his grandsons Jason, Derek, Kevin, Jesse, Shawn, Brett and Robin. He was predeceased by his brother Jack. Frank worked at Eaton's for 41 years as a watchmaker, retiring in 1987. He loved the outdoors, fishing, hunting and boating. He spent many happy years building a boat and then a cottage at Hillside Beach. Frank was in the Royal Canadian Navy for eight years. BUCKLE, Reginald Frederick Thomas (Reg) (1923-1986)- On March 26, 1986 at the Grace Hospital, Reg Buckle, aged 62 years of Winnipeg, beloved husband of Lorna Buckle. Reg was born and raised in Winnipeg. He served overseas during the Second World War with the Royal Canadian Navy. he was very involved with the Boy Scouts of Canada. he was a longtime member of the Charleswood Game & Fish Association, a charter and life member of the Sir John Franklin Curling Club and a very active member of the Charleswood Seniors' Curling League. Reg loved to read; and so that another may receive the same enjoyment, he donated his eyes to the Eye Bank. Besides his wife Lorna, Reg is survived by his mother, Olive of Winnipeg; one daughter Mrs. Marlene Scoran and her husband Gord of Winnipeg; two sons, Wayne and his wife Em of Winnipeg and David and his wife Carole of Fort McMurray, Alta.; two brothers, Arnie of Winnipeg and Allan and his wife Marge of Winnipeg; also four grandchildren, Kris and Kory, and Margo and David. he was predeceased by his father Fred in 1975. Reg will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him. Memorial service will be held 1:30 p.m. Saturday, March 29 at the Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Ave., the Rev. F. Demaray officiating. LAW, Robert George, Steward, V46244, RCNVR - On October 5th, 2008, Robert George Law (86) completed his sojourn on this earth and went to receive his eternal reward, leaving the devastating effects of Alzheimer's behind him. Born June 4th, 1922 in Vermillion, Alberta, Bob was a first generation Canadian: son of Scottish immigrants, Andrew Young Law and Margaret Maxwell Reid. At the age of 18, he joined His Majesty's Royal Navy and served as the Captain's Steward on the Coaticook and the Chilliwack. After his honourable release from the Navy at the end of World War II, Bob returned to Edmonton and began working at the Falkenburg Dental Lab. There he met the love of his life, Ethel Grace Getty, to whom he was married for 58 years. Shortly after they were married, he began work at the Workman's Compensation Board - first as a remedial gymnast, and then as a work assessment officer. He was also employed for 25 years as a part-time salesman at The Bay's men's suits department. Bob was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bearspaw Ward. He served in many Church positions over the years, but his favourite was working as the local physical facilities representative, where he oversaw the care and building of Church properties. He and Ethel also enjoyed serving a one-year mission for the Church in Accra, Ghana, West Africa. In addition to his loving wife, Ethel, he is survived by his daughters, Beth (David) Street, Pam (Jim) Lupul, and Barbara (Willy) Sweetland-Bradley; his sons, Andy (Holly) and David (Peggy) Law; his grandchildren, Katy (Erik) Street Larson; who will soon deliver his first great-grandchild; Amy Street, Christina Sweetland, Davey Law, Jamie Lupul, Jason Law, Adam Sweetland, Matt Lupul, Whitney Law, Sarah Sweetland, and Sam Sweetland. He is also survived by his sisters, Betty Smith and Margaret Rush as well as many nieces, nephews, and his beloved dog, Samba. A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, October 10th, 2008 at 3:00 p.m. at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Bearspaw Building, 1203 - 109 Street in Edmonton, Alberta, following a private family interment at Mount Pleasant Cemetery. Born in Vancouver, BC, he enlisted in the RCN at the age of 19 and served 31 years before retiring in 1992. While on HMCS Fraser he was involved in the shock trials off Hawaii. He was awarded the CD and Queen's Jubilee Medal. He was a member of the Canadian Forces Sailing Association (CFSA) and RCL Branch 172 Esquimalt Dockyard.

He saw service in the Caribbean and was a survivor of the sinking of HMCS Fraser. He was the son of John E. and Winnifred Kyle. Kenneth attended King George School and Moose Jaw Tech (motor mechanics) and enlisted on June 06, 1938 at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan. His sister Shirley joined the Canadian Women's Army Corps as soon as she was old enough in 1943. He is unmarried and is survived by his parents who reside at Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan.

Beloved husband of Gwendylin (Woods), and loving Dad and Poppa of Bruce and Cathy, Ryan (Melanie) and Julie (Nathan); David and Janice, Darryl (Calli) and Chris (Lindsey); Debbie and Bradley Cozens, Betty Ann and Meredith; Mark and Joan, Shannon (Sean) and Angela (Cody); Lindsay and Virginia, Alecia and Rachel; and Dana and Matt Wren, Jena and Nicholas. Also survived by several great-grandchildren, nieces Islay, Annie (Ellery) and Kara Lisa, and nephew Peter Culp (Patricia). Fondly remembered by his cousin Jack Paul (Dorothy). Bill was predeceased by his wife Betty (Weeks), by sisters Norma Culp and Carol Paul, and by brothers Ray and John. Bill was a WWII Veteran who served in the Royal Canadian Navy on both HMCS Saskatchewan and Whitethroat. He is the longest serving member and a Life Member of the Brockville Lions Club, a founder of the Brockville Flying Club, and a fifty year Elder of First Presbyterian Church. Most important to him was being an owner of one of the Thousand Islands, aptly named Paul Island, where many wonderful summers were spent throughout his long, happy and well deserved retirement. Honouring Bill's wishes, visitation will take place at the Barclay Funeral Home, 137 Pearl Street East, Brockville on Sunday, November 12 from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. In celebration of his life, the funeral service will take place in the Chapel Monday, November 13 at 1:00 p.m. with interment to follow at Oakland Cemetery. The Brockville Lions Club is invited to gather for a memorial tribute on Sunday at 4 p.m. In remembrance, donations to the First Presbyterian Church, or the St. Vincent de Paul Society Weekender Program will be gratefully acknowledged. WEBBER, Donald Graham (Ted), Lt, RCNVR (21 Mar 1924 - 01 Nov 2017) - We knew this day would come, we knew it all along, but how did it come so fast. How can something so special so precious and full of life come to an end? Donald Graham (TED) Webber passed away on November 1st, 2017. Born March 21st, 1924 and raised in Point Grey with his sister and two brothers along with any stray dogs they could find. Ted was always intelligent and highly witty. He excelled in school attending Queen Mary Elementary and Lord Byng High School. Shortly after graduation he enlisted in the Navy as soon as he was of age during the last years of the second World War. Serving as a Lieutenant, he was a navigator on the Corvette HMCS "Trillium " running convoys from Halifax to Europe. As a fan of the outdoors and an interest in mining, Ted travelled to the Cariboo to undertake some prospecting. Still looking for his calling he met with Dr. Walter Gage at UBC. Under the recommendation of Dr. Gage, Ted entered law school followed by running a successful law practise for 35 years. Ted's older sister Olga once said that there were numerous girls that would call the family home for Ted, but he would only take calls from one, Rosemary Arrowsmith. They were married on May 29th ,1949. Ted's unfaltered focus for the next 60 years became providing for Rosemary and their five children. Rosemary passed away December 26th, 2009. He dedicated his life for her happiness, and she in turn did the same. Ted led a life to be envious of, always close to his family. He loved life, God he loved life, and life loved him back. Ted's life was bursting with activity. Ted had a passion for being on the water. Joining Royal Vancouver Yacht Club in 1940 he embraced the lifelong friendships he made there with the members and staff. His personable nature and quick wit sealed mutual respect and love in return. He shared his passion for the seas with his family by boating up and down BC's coastal waters at every opportunity. Hearts are broken now. We won't have Ted. Those who knew him will soon share many a good time talking about the good times they had with Ted. Ted touched all that knew him. The sadness we should feel is for those that never had the opportunity to meet him. At the end, he remained a classy dignified gentleman garnering the affection of the wonderful healthcare providers that tended to his needs. In spite of his discomfort he never complained. He fought for every last breath. A friend to many, he was a great husband, father and provider for his wife and five children. PASSMORE, Russell Francis, LCdr, RCN (25 Sep 1919 - 03 Nov 2017) - Passed away peacefully on Friday, November 3, 2017 at the age of 98. Beloved husband of Thelma (nee Wiebe). Dear father of Bob, Laura (Hans), Jim (Lee), Alan (Betty Jean) and Katherine (Bryan). Predeceased by his parents Emma and Norman Passmore, wife Dorothy, and son Ken (Emily). Fondly remembered by Thelma's children Gillis (Barbara), Audrey (Don), and their families. His cherished grandchildren and great-grandchildren also mourn the loss of their grandpa. Russ was born in Exeter, On, and had a long, successful career in the RCN, retiring after 26 years as a LCdr. He then had a second career in the Public service. As an avid curler and volunteer, he was appointed as a lifetime member of the Gov. Gen. Curling Club. He was also a longtime devoted and active member of his church. Smile Alley Haynee passed away peacefully on November 1, 2017 at the age of 93 years YOUNG surrounded by his family. Smile was predeceased by his parents; 13 of his siblings and his wife Isabella in 1997. He is survived by his brother, Musty; sisters, Betty and Pat; his daughters, Fran Kitson (Joe predeceased 1996), Isabella (Bob) Pierce and son Michael Haynee. He was adored by his grandchildren; Doug, Darren, Cynthia (Chris), Sarah (Oscar), Matthew (Marianne); great-grandchildren, Zac, Jordan, Josh, Joe, Emma, Keira, Mason and great-great-grandchild Owen. Smiley was born on March 31, 1924 and raised in Regina, SK. As a teenager he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served from 1941-1945. He married Isabella Parry in 1945. He was employed by Mcdonald's Consolidated for 40 years and went on to enjoy many Wednesday morning coffees with some of the guys after his retirement in 1986. His family was of paramount importance to him. His ability to smile and always make others feel special was a beautiful gift. He was a humble and quiet man that believed that "Life was good". The family would like to thank the 4 North staff at Royal Jubilee Hospital for their unbelievable care and compassion. Doctor's Adelman, Hammond and VanOsh, along with nurses, Barb, Bridie, Lee, Amanda, Jin and GoPaul helped to make Dad's last month one filled with dignity. KING, Neil McNeill (01 Jul 1926 - 05 Nov 2017) - peacefully, at Westminster House, Surrey. Deeply missed by Hazel, his wife of 66 years, sons Dick, Alan (Barbara, deceased), Stewart (Cheryl), and Graeme, grandchildren Richard and Rachel, his extended family and his many friends. Predeceased by brother Johnny, and sisters Margaret and Irene. Neil was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. Following WWII, he worked, principally for Trans Canada Airways, in a number of locations across Canada. In 1959 he joined B.C. Electric (subsequently B.C. Hydro, from which he retired in 1985), and he, Hazel and children settled in the White Rock area. Neil is remembered for encouraging sporting activities - setting up a softball league for children, and acting as President of the Peace Arch Soccer Association – including being instrumental to the building of the original Peace Arch Curling Club of which he was a founding member. He enjoyed many sporting activities throughout his life including softball, golfing, curling, and lawn bowling, in which he was a runner up in provincial championships. Family flowers only please. In lieu, donations to Heart and Stroke Foundation would be greatly appreciated. The family thank Dr. Scott, Dr. Wu, Dr.Tung, Dr. Bashir, and the staffs of Peace Arch Hospital, Pacific Carlton, and Westminster House for the care they provided him over many years.

WILLIS, Daniel Curtis, AB, 3175, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - AB Daniel Curtis Willis formerly of Hanna, Alta., was born at this town on November 29th, 1919. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at Esquimalt, B.C., subsequently proceeding overseas. Seaman Willis was a member of the crew of HMCS Margaree when this ship collided with a large merchant ship on the night of October 22, 1940, in the north Atlantic Ocean, and was reported "missing, believed killed." His mother, Mrs. Celia Willis, survives him at Hanna, Alta.

McNALLY, William Holland, RCNVR, RCN - Born March 2, 1913 in Buffalo New York, U.S.A., died December 22, 1995 Coquitlam, B.C. Canada. Bill developed a love for the sea and joined the Royal Canadian Navy Reserves - later he formally joined the RCN at age of 24 and served on the ship HMCS Fraser. At the outset of the war he went to Eastern Canada and trained as a signal man. The majority of his time at sea was spent on the east coast during the war years where he served as the leading signal man on a variety of ships including destroyers, mine sweepers and corvettes that were on escort duty. I believe he was also a Petty Officer. After the war Bill was a long time employee of the Great Northern Railway as a longshoreman at one of the docks owned by the railway in Vancouver.

James served for 24 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, 14 years with Corrections Canada, and was an active member of the R.C.L. Branch #91. BUCHANAN, Kenneth Allan (Buck) - born May 7, 1925 passed away peacefully at home with his family at his side on June 3, 1998. Buck Buchanan, dearly beloved husband of Irene; married 50 years. Loving father of Terrie and her husband, Bill Alexander, and his son, James Buchanan. Also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Joey and his wife, Kari Alexander, and Lisa Alexander and her fiance, Bryce Bell. Buck will be sadly missed by his two sisters, Helen and Marg. He served in the RCN overseas from 1943 until 1947. Later he was employed at the Dockyard in Esquimalt from 1948 until his retirement in 1980 as a Shipwright. Dad always had a very special spot in his heart for his Grand Dogs: Beer, Reba and Jake and Grand Cats: Jessie, Snorg, Alley, Spook and Frosty. Dad was very active in the Mayfair Bowling league and the Victoria Horseshoe Club. also a long standing member of the Esquimalt Legion and the Dockyard Recreation Association. Ken will be sadly missed by his family and many many special friends. The family would like to thank all the special people for their support and care during this time; especially Dr. Kardera and nurse Anne. WALTER, John Bernard Louis (Jack) (03 Nov 1929 - 02 Nov 2017) - JBL will be sorely missed but never forgotten by those who knew and loved him. He was the youngest of 6 children born to Rupert Gordon and Laura Lucille Walter of Vancouver. Known by most as Jack, he will also be remembered as Dad, Papa, Grampa, Grampa-grampa and Unca Jack. His career started in the RCN as a Naval Aviator attached to the aircraft carrier HMCS Magnificent; and wound up at BC Parks, where his abilities as an artist and wordsmith earned him well deserved accolades. Starting as a caddy in his youth, golf was a lifelong passion. Another joy was his art. His precision pen and inks of meaningful buildings, cars, planes, and ships were received as cherished gifts by many. He was a proud member of the Naval Reserve as well as the "fraternity of friendship" that is Gyro. Predeceased in 1964 by his first wife, Joyce; he is survived by Vanetia, his wife of 51-years, his children, grandchildren and great-grandsons. We will celebrate Jack at Uplands Golf Course on Sunday, November 26th starting at 3:00 pm. EMERY, Gordon (16 Apr 1924 - 12 Nov 2017) - of Calgary, Alberta passed away peacefully on November 12, 2017 at the age of 93 years. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II. His working career began with Mid-Western News Agency in Saskatoon, Saskatchewan and continued as Assistant Manager until 1971. In 1972 he joined the Government of Canada-UIC as a Supervisor until his retirement in 1984. His real passion was singing and playing trumpet and drums with various bands. His vocal talent earned him his own radio show in Saskatoon early on in his singing career. He was married to Shirley, the love of his life for almost 57 years and they enjoyed 20 years ballroom dancing in Hawaii. Gordon is survived by his daughters: Sherrie Loewen of Vancouver Island, British Columbia; and Penny (Gordon) Ogilvie of Calgary, Alberta; son-in-law Donald Czuy; seven grandchildren, thirteen great- grandchildren and sisters: Gladys Boczar of Kanata, Ontario; Shirley Helgason of Vancouver, Washington; and sister-in-law Natalie Emery of Long Beach, California. Gordon was predeceased by his wife Shirley (McPhee), daughter Diane Czuy and grandson Darryn Czuy. FOOTE, Daniel Patrick - was born August 4, 1924 in Grand Prairie, AB and passed away November 7, 2017 in Abbotsford, B.C. with his daughter Julia by his side. He was predeceased by his second wife Arlie (2013) and by his siblings; Bob, Tom, Marie, Peg, Ken and John. Growing up in Grande Prairie, Danny developed a love for hockey and an athleticism that never left him. His family moved to Hedley, B.C. during its mining heyday. During this time period as a teenager, he was to meet his future wife and mother of their 7 children, Dolores Wilkinson. As a young man he served for 2 years in the Canadian Navy during World War II. Danny returned to Vancouver after the war and he and Dolores were married. It was during this time period he worked as a meat cutter for James Inglis Reid Meat Market on Granville Street. He then moved to Cranbrook, B.C. to begin a railroad career, eventually moving back to the lower mainland for the rest of his life. He retired from the railway and was a railroader through and through. Raising seven children he was a devoted father working two jobs at times to make ends meet. Danny had many interests throughout his life, hunting, fishing, camping, hockey, woodwork, playing pool, mechanics and he took up golf in his retirement years. He was passionate about everything he did. He will always be remembered for the principled and honourable way he lived his life, his integrity and his sense of humour. He is survived by his children; Brian (Arlene), David, Cheryl (Dennis), Steven (Isabella) Marcia, Julia (Lance), and Laura, as well as his grandchildren Brendan, Jason, Kristen, Justin, Kaela, Leah, Katrina, Alexa, Jesse and great-grandchildren Ashton, Isla, Dylan, Luke and Alia. He also leaves many extended family members and dear friends. A celebration of life will be held Saturday November 25, 2017 at Abbotsford Seniors Centre 2631 Cyril St. 2:00. He was very involved in Halifax Minor Hockey Association and Chebucto Minor Baseball for a number of years. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 20 years, was an entrepreneur and worked for Canada Post for 12 years. He was a lifetime member of Retired CPO Association and 48 year member of the Legion. Pre-deceased by his wife Norma (Duffy) in 1994. Survived by his children Clifford Robert (Pauline), Cathie Fumerton (Larry Whelan), Tim Robert (Val Mills) & Scott Robert. Proud Poppa/Granddad to Steve Robert, Scott Robert, Leslie Fumerton, Andrea Fumerton, Laura Robert (Kevin), Katie Robert (Colin), and Charlie Robert (Caroline). Also survived by his two sisters Helen Raymond & Simone Lepine & close friend Gray Fumerton. Charlie was surrounded by his loving family & close friends in the days and hours before his peaceful death. Charlie was a proud Navy Vet who served on a Corvette in the Battle of the Atlantic & a great supporter of the Legion. He retired from Fruehauf Trailers 29 years ago & made the most of each and every day. Throughout his life he loved to fish, hunt, cook, and have "a little red wine". Charlie had his own unique sense of humor which was part of his charm. He absolutely loved to host friends & family at his cottage in St. Gabriel de Brandon. The more the merrier - there was always room - everyone was welcome. He will be so greatly missed. All that knew him are better for having had him in their lives on which he left his mark.. Bus is survived by his loving wife Bertha (B.J.); daughters Linda and Debbie (Dave) Walker; son Dan; grandson Daniel; step-children Brenda, Darryl, Jeff and Greg (Monika); step-grandchildren Corey, Cole, Jake and numerous nieces and nephews. Bus served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII. Bus was an avid golfer and a member of Vancouver Golf Club for 50 years. Jack is survived by his friends; his five children, Judy, Anne, Hugh, Peter and Tom; his ex-wife, Pamela his sister, Dorothea Savory and her two daughters, Eve and Inez; his eight grandchildren, Alissa, Amaya, Andrew, Brendan, Cameron, Jonathan, Ross and Shannon. Jack joined the Empress of Canada in 1931 and so began a life long affair with ships and life on the ocean. BILLINGTON, David Ivor (Bubbly), P2ER, RCN (retired 16 Nov 1965) (02 May 1927 - 08 Mar 1999) - passed  away at the Victoria General Hospital on March 8, 1999. He is survived by his loving wife, Betty; four step-children; six step-grandchildren; two sisters, Mary Clavel (Grimsby, Ontario) and Violet Morris (port Coquitlam); as well as nieces, nephews and many good friends. Dave was a member of the Royal Canadian legion Esquimalt Dockyard Branch #172, Chief and Petty Officers' Association and The Dockers Club. A decorated Korean War Veteran under the United Nations, he will be missed by all who knew him. Family and friends may pay their respected at McCall Bros. DOUGLAS, Ensell Roy - age 70 of Lower Sackville, passed away Thursday, November 9, 2017 in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, Halifax. Ensell was born in North Sydney. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in September 1965, serving on many ships and deployments throughout his 28year career. After retiring from the Navy he worked for Garda World for 23 years, fully retiring March 2015. He was a Master Scale Ship model builder, a volunteer at Shearwater Aviation Museum and a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. Ensell was a devoted husband and father. Ensell is survived by his wife, Clea Maria Douglas; daughter, Christina Maria Douglas (Larry); son, Mark Ian Ensell Douglas; sisters, Alfreida Douglas, Halifax; Debbie (Donnie) Merritt, Sydney Mines; Joanne (Blaine) Morrison, Kentville. GREENAWAY, Grant Victor (13 Jun 1925, Winnipeg, MB - 25 Mar 2014, Georgetown, On) - was born June 13, 1925 at Misericordia Hospital in Winnipeg, Manitoba, son of Ena Kathleen Keeble and James Edward Victor Greenaway. He was named after his doctor and his father and was the eldest of six children. Grant attended Norberry Public School and Glenlawn Collegiate in Winnipeg and was interested in all sports, especially baseball, hockey and rugby. His greatest ambition at that time was to be a sailor. He started to work as a delivery boy for a grocery store at age 14, clerked at the same store at age 15, and worked as an office boy at Peerless Carbon Ribbon Co. at age 16 before becoming a Messenger for Canadian National Telecommunications in 1942. He was a Route Aide at CNT when he left in 1943 for 2 years as a Seaman Radar Operator in the Royal Canadian Navy. During WW2 he served on both HMCS Saskatoon and HMCS Coppercliff.

Grant returned to CNT after the war and worked at various clerical jobs in the Accounting Department in Winnipeg. He married a CNT co-worker, Alice Olga Catherine Haas on August 20, 1949 in Melville, Saskatchewan. They had two daughters, both born in Winnipeg, Glenda, who died in 1959 and Gail. In 1961, Grant was transferred to Toronto as Assistant Supervisor in the CNT Revenue Accounting Centre and he and his family "pulled up roots" and moved east to Georgetown, Ontario. Grant continued his career at CNT in Toronto where he worked as Office Supervisor, Travelling Auditor and Special Projects Officer until his retirement in 1987. He particularly enjoyed the Travelling Auditor job as he loved to travel and was able to visit every province and territory in Canada, including many far flung places such as Whitehorse, Inuvik and Gander, as well as many other destinations in the U.S. and abroad.

Throughout his life, Grant was one of those volunteers who tirelessly and cheerfully gave his time and shared his talents with many organizations. In Winnipeg, he was a Director at the Commercial Telegrapher's Credit Union. After moving to Ontario, he was a member of the Georgetown Public School Board, a 50+ year member of St. Andrew's United Church where he held many positions over the years including Treasurer, Steward and Trustee, a founding member of Georgetown Senior Centre, Red Cross Executive member, auditor for North Halton Distress Centre and Chairperson for the Board of Directors of Residences of St. Andrew's. Grant also worked for many years on the Steering Committee for the Residences of St. Andrew's, and he and Alice moved to a brand new apartment in the building when it was completed. "Grant will always be admired for his forthright, common sense approach and ability to simplify the most complex issue with clarity. He was a true leader and visionary. He was always fearlessly ready to take on a new challenge. He made us believe that with a leap of faith, anything was possible," as shared by a member of St. Andrew's. His many varied interests included baseball, hockey, bowling, curling, golf, gardening and playing cards, though the sports were mainly as an armchair spectator in later years. His love of travel, led him to volunteer at the Travel Desk at the Senior Centre, where he organized and escorted many tours. He also loved to tell tales and many of these classics will live on forever in our memories.

Grant is survived by his beloved wife of 64 years, Alice, his daughter Gail Young and her husband, Taylor of Ajax, Ontario, his granddaughter Tamara Young of Ottawa, Ontario, his grandson Byron Young of Ajax, Ontario, his brother and sister-in-law Donald and Nedra Greenaway of Roberts Creek, B.C. and his brother James Greenaway of Winnipeg, Manitoba (sister-in-law Marie - deceased) as well as many cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents Victor and Ena (nee Keeble) Greenaway, his daughter Glenda Jean Greenaway, his brother Robert Greenaway and sister-in-law Nellie, his brother William Greenaway and sister-in-law Jean, and his sister Kathleen (Kay) Fonseca. Grant was blessed with a good long life, a kind and generous heart, a great sense of humour and a smile that gave a sparkle to his eyes. He would want us to remember and celebrate 88 years well lived. St. Andrew's United Church was a huge part of his life, and for this reason, any donations in memory of Grant may be made to St. Andrew's United Church in Georgetown.

LOURIE, Norman William - Norman was born October 2nd, 1923 in Port Arthur, Ontario and died January 8th, 1998 in Brandon, Manitoba. He was survived by his wife of 52 years, May (Elizabeth), son James and his wife Gloria, daughter Maureen and her husband Michael Hawkins, his 3 grandchildren Steven, Erin and Kristen Lourie. Norman joined the HMCS Griffin in Port Arthur in January 1943. He served in Esquimalt, Comox and in Prince Rupert on the Boom Defence. His final post was on the Minesweeper HMCS MIRAMICHI where he served till the war ended in 1945. When he returned to Port Arthur he joined the staff of Burns Meats in Fort William, Ontario. He was transferred to Winnipeg in 1967 and subsequently to Brandon in 1971, where he worked till his retirement in 1988 after 43 years. Internment was in the rosewood Memorial Gardens, Brandon, Manitoba.

PALMER, John Edwin (Jack), Stoker, RCNVR - It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of our father, Jack on November 13, 2017 at the Grace Hospital at the age of 93 years. He is predeceased by his son Chris, wife Bernice and brother Norman. Jack leaves to mourn his daughters, Jill Mizak (Gordon) and Darcy Watson (Roger); his very dear friend Inge Shaw; his daughter-in-law Debbie Palmer; nine grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Jack was born July 3, 1924 in Winnipeg to Vera and Frank Palmer. He was the older brother to Norman. Jack married Bernice in June 1949; they enjoyed over 50 years together travelling to Texas for the winter months and then Victoria B.C. Jack served in the Navy during the Second World War as a Stoker from 1943 to 1945. He was employed by CP Rail from the age of 17 until his retirement at the age of 60 when he retired as an Electrical Supervisor. A celebration of Jack's life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Friday, November 24, 2017 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. The family would like to extend a sincere thank-you to the staff of the Shaftesbury Retirement Residence for their care. He was an avid sports lover and loyal to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets, never missed watching a game! He worked at Safeway, working up to Warehouse Manager. One of the things he really loved was his Buick cars. The family would also like to send special thanks to all the love and support from Westhaven Manor this last three years where he lived and made many new friends. Also thanks to all the Home Care Workers and Nurses who looked after Phil. A celebration of his life will be held on Wednesday, November 22, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Chapel Lawn Funeral Home, 4000 Portage Avenue. BOWRING, Charles Frederick, AB, X60871, RCN, died 09 Jun 1940, HMCS NADEN - Born 16 Feb 1902, AB Bowring died at the Royal Jubilee Hospital, Victoria, BC, as a result of an operation for a perforated gastric ulcer. He is survived by his wife Ina Bowring of Calgary, AB. He is buried in the Veterans' Cemetery, Esquimalt, BC, Naval Section, Grave 182.
