GRAYDON, Carson Alan James, C2ER, RCN (served 12 Nov 1964 - 15 Sep 1991) - Passed away peacefully, following courageous battle with cancer, on November 26, 2005 at the age of 58. Survived by his loving wife and best friend Christine, mother Anne, father Maurice, son Ronald (Rachel), brother Randy, sister Monique (Don), three grandchildren and several nieces and nephews in Canada and England. Al will also be missed by many other relatives and great friends. Al was born and raised in the Vancouver area and served for 27 years in the Royal Canadian Navy, retiring as Chief Petty Officer. For the last seven years Al had been an instructor at Okanagan College. Al will always be remembered for his friendly, caring and generous ways. No service by request. In keeping with Al's wishes, his cremains will be scattered at sea. The family wish to extend a special thank you to the wonderful staff of the Hospice Unit at Cottonwoods for the great care they gave Al. Roge will be sadly missed by his two sons, Bryn, Roger Jr.; two daughters, Christina, Joanna and their mother, Jill. He also leaves behind his mother, Doris; sisters, Sharry, Brenda (Bunny) and Kelly; nephew, Michael; many cousins in Edmonton and his many friends from the Dockers Club, Chief & P.O.'s Assn, and the Prince Edward Legion, Branch #91. Roge joined the navy in 1961 and served on both the Kootenay and Gatineau. After 32 years of service he retired and remained an active member within the Legion. HUNTER, Edward Keith, Cook, RCN - age 71 of Bedford, passed away at home on August 16, 2018. He was born in St. John's, N.L. on August 27, 1946. He was a son of the late Jack and Bertha (Humber) Hunter. He is survived by son, Stephen and grandson Dawson, Cole Harbour; son, Gregory, Ottawa; brother, Ian (Patsy), Portugal Cove, St. Phillips, N.L.; and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years, Shirley Marie (Rhind); brother, John and sister, Carol. Keith spent 25 years in the Royal Canadian Navy as a cook serving on several ships, including two tours of duty on HMCS Bonaventure, twice with a United Nations Disengagement Force in Damascus, Syria, and Golan Heights, Israel. He also did a six-month stint in CFS Alert, an isolated posting in NWT. He served with the Commissionaires for 22 years at the Canadian Armed Forces Ammunition Depot in Bedford. Keith enjoyed gardening, cooking, reading and playing cribbage (managed to get 29 twice) with Steve and Lynn and countless hours with good friend Ken Tanner (hope you get the elusive one Ken). In August of 2016 Keith was hospitalized, having a large portion of his bowel removed. Greg and Krista kept house and harvested hundreds of tomatoes that grew every day, thanks so much. Keith was an avid Chicago Blackhawks fan and starting in 1961 saw them win the Cup four times, and got to see them play five times when they were in Ottawa. Service/reception will be held 2:00 pm. Tuesday, August 21st in Sackville Lions Club, 101 Old Beaverbank Rd., Lower Sackville. Donations can be made to Canadian Cancer Society.

CROSS, Harry Glenn - Born in Victoria, B.C., on June 24, 1925, passed away on Tuesday, August 7, 2018. Harry is survived by brother David Clive Cross, sister Sherry Regimbel and family as well as his very good friend Judy Reynolds. He was predeceased by brother Cameron Cross. Harry served his country in the RCN on the North Atlantic from 1942-1945 and was in Times Square, New York on VE day. He was a loyal Masonic member for 60 years, a Shriner, a perpetual order of Eagles #12, and a member of Royal Canadian Legion #7. He had many friends in the Northern Territory of Australia and Sydney as he worked for 13 years in Australia as a sales rep for a brewing co. In 1974, Harry barely survived Typhoon Tracey when it struck Darwin on Christmas Day and he was trapped below a collapsed house. He was one of the first bartenders in the Strathcona Hotel Lounge in 1954. An amazing special man with an incredible memory and special zest for life. He will be missed by so many!! Capt. John F. O'Hara, of 60 Edward Arab Avenue, Halifax, died Thursday in the Victoria General Hospital, aged 72. Born at Isaac's Harbor, Guysborough County he was the son of a sea captain. He went to sea at the age of 14 and got his captain's ticket while still under 30. For most of his career he sailed with the Furness Withy Line, on the New York-Bermuda, and the New York - Halifax - Newfoundland runs. He was in the RCN during the First World War, and sailed with the Merchant Navy throughout the Second. He leaves a widow, Cecilia Mary; three daughters, Alice (Mrs. W. Ted) G. Richardson), Doris (Mrs. C.F. Dixon), Florence (Mrs. Perry Ivany), one son John F. O'Hara Jr. - all of Halifax; two sisters, Mrs. Milton Uloth of New Harbor and Montreal; Mrs. Arthur Smith, Isaac's Harbor; one brother, Capt. Morris O'Hara of Halifax. He was predeceased by two brothers. The remains are now resting in the Cruikshank's Funeral Home, Robie Street. The funeral service will be held there by the Rev. D.M. Sinclair at 10. a.m. on Saturday. Burial will follow at Hillcrest Memorial Gardens, Sackville.

GORMAN, John Albert, P1ER, RCN - Passed away peacefully on December 31, 2010, after many years of ill health, leaving to mourn his devoted wife, Isabel, three daughters and five grandchildren. John served for 22 years in the Royal Canadian Navy. In later years John and Isabel moved to the Berwick Residence on Shelbourne where they enjoyed many happy times with friends. John's last two years were spent at the Berwick Residence at Royal Oak. Lieutenant Commander Clark Anderson Rutherford, RCN, 28-year-old commanding officer of HMCS Ottawa was torpedoed Canadian destroyer, was well known in Ottawa, having visited the Capital frequently before he joined the navy. Lieut. Commander Rutherford is listed as missing, believed killed in action. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Stuart F. Rutherford of Westmount, Que., Commander Rutherford was born in that city and joined the navy in 1933 after he graduated from the Royal Military College at Kingston. Clarke Anderson of 152 Manor Road, Rockcliffe, is an uncle, and Mrs. Charles W. Hall, 405 Elgin Street, an aunt. His grandfather, the late William Anderson, was at one time a prominent official of the J. R. Booth Company.

Clark Rutherford School is named in his honour.

(served 17 Mar 1958 - 09 Oct 1980) (16 Oct 1973 - 06 Dec 2008) - Jim is survived by his wife, Dorothy, mother Muriel Lundberg of Nanaimo, sister Sandra, children Brent (Terri), Lance, Janine (Chris) and grandchildren, Courtney, Spencer, Ryan and Matthew. Jim retired from the Armed Forces (Navy) in 1982, moving to Cobble Hill, then Mill Bay to enjoy the country life. After several years delivering mail with Dot, Jim was regularly seen in his red truck, righting and repairing postal boxes or on his red tractor helping out a neighbour. "The neighbourhood handyman has gone ". A celebration of Jim's life will take place on Thursday, December 11th from 3 to 8pm at 3223 Kilipi Rd, Mill Bay (Victoria Times Colonist 09 Dec 2008)

He is survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Rhoda (nee Bird); his children Paul (Peg) of Middleton, NS, Philip of Calgary, AB, David (Joanne) of Colwood, BC, Ruth Lundin (Bruce) of Port Alice, BC, Ralph of Victoria, BC and Linda Kennedy (Tom) of Caledon, ON; five grandchildren and several nieces and nephews and sister Audrey (Doug), ON. Gordon served 25 years in the RCN achieving the rank of Petty Officer 1st class and the Canada Post for 17 years. There will be a private family service and cremation. GARDNER, William Thomas (Bill), PO PRT, RCN (served 15 Jul 1940 - 27 Feb 1946) - Passed away peacefully at the Lodge at Broadmead in Victoria, BC. on Sunday April 26, 2009, at the age of 86 years. Born in Edmonton, AB. November 27, 1922, he lived there until shortly before he joined the Navy in 1940; he was discharged as a Petty Officer. After initial duty on destroyer convoys, Bill, who was an outstanding gymnast, became a physical training instructor at a veterans' facility in Portage la Prairie. There he met and, in 1947, married Mary (nee Bays). Bill and Mary had three daughters; Sally Gardner (Victoria), Roslyn Firth (Fort Liard) and Melissa Gardner (Calgary). Bill had itchy feet; over the years the family moved more than 27 times and Bill took on a wide variety of career challenges, including 20 years at Eaton's. Ultimately a successful jeweller, he had a fine eye for design and a great talent for merchandising. Bill is survived by Mary, his three daughters, six grandchildren, one great grandson and three nieces. He was predeceased by his sister, Mary Jackson of Campbell River, BC. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Broadmead Care Foundation, Music Therapy and Recreation Program. A memorial service will be held at St. Peter's Anglican Church 3939 St. Peter's Rd. Victoria on Thursday, April 30, 2009 at 2:00 PM. The family is very grateful to the staff at Broadmead for all of their care and kindness during Bill's time there. LAURIE, William F.S., RCN - was born in Pointe du Bois, MB, September 9, 1931 and died in Sooke, BC, August 15, 2018. Bill joined the RCN in 1951 at CFB Chippewa, Winnipeg, MB. He took basic training at CFB Cornwallis, NS, then was based at CFB Shearwater, NS. He served on the carriers HMCS Magnificent and Bonaventure. He was then posted to CFB Patricia Bay, BC where he retired. Following retirement the family moved to Winnipeg where he was a manager at the new Boeing factory. In 1989 Bill taught aircraft sheet metal at Camosun College. While there his students rebuilt sections of several aircraft now displayed at the BC Aviation Museum. He leaves his wife, Marion; sons, David (Patricia) and Christopher (Christopher); grandson, Jonathan. He was predeceased by son, Michael (Charlene). We are eternally grateful to the amazing staff at Ayre Manor. He was a loving husband and father who will be sadly missed. COMEAU, John Joseph, Cook, RCN / C.A.F. (1931 - 07 July 2018) - Age 87 of Dartmouth, passed away peacefully after a short fight with cancer in the VG Site, QEII on Saturday, July 7, 2018. Born in 1931 and raised in Margaretsville by his foster parents, Robie and Grace Taylor; he was the son of Estelle (Comeau) Deveau (of Meteghan River). John started his working career in the Royal Canadian Navy as a cook in 1949. After his 25 years of service, John went into sales for several food companies, a job he was good at since he knew how to use the products. John ended his working life as a Commissionaire where he got to work on computers and loved the technology. In retirement, he took up woodcarving with some friends and loved staying in touch with family and friends far and wide via his computer. John is survived by his daughters, Natalie (Ron) Hood, Darlene (Bruce) MacLeod, Michele Comeau; six grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. John was predeceased by his wife, Beulah (Elliott); foster parents, Robie and Grace Taylor; birth mother, Estelle (Comeau) Deveau; brother, Jerry Deveau and his wife Catherine; half-sister, Jean (Deveau) Roy and son-in-law, Jim Hamilton. The funeral service will be held Friday, July 13th at 2 p.m. in Atlantic Funeral Home, 771 Main St., Dartmouth, Rev. Frank J. Gunita Jr. officiating with a reception to follow. Bill was born in Nanaimo Regional Hospital and was an only child. He is survived by his 3rd wife, Mildred; daughter Linda (Lee) McQuirter of Sarnia, Ontario and son Leonard (Maureen) Glanfield of Victoria. Bill was the proud grandfather of two grandchildren, Kevin (Margaret) Glanfield and Michelle (Walter) Bohn; 3 great-grandchildren, Tyler and Kevin Glanfield Jr. and Jade Bohn. Bill was predeceased by his 1st wife Gloria Halliwell Anderson in 1990 and his 2nd wife Edith Dunn Glanfield in 1991. Bill enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1941. He served for 25 years including time on an escort convoy in the Atlantic during WWII and also served time during the Korean conflict. He retired from the R.C.N. in 1966 and was then employed by the BC Liquor Control Board `til 1984. Bill was a secretary of the Victoria Power Squadron and was active with the Sidney Legion Branch #37. He enjoyed gardening, boating, fishing and traveling including around the world three times. He had an avid interest in studying history and reading books on aviation and listening to Hawaiian music. His sense of humour will be missed. A celebration of Bill's life will be held at First Memorial Funeral Chapel, 4725 Falaise Drive, on Wednesday, March 21 at 2:00 PM with a reception to follow in the Garden Room.. Able Seaman Harry Kenneth Southall, Service No. V24012, R.C.N.V.R., 30 years member of the crew of the Canadian destroyer, Ottawa, who is reported missing and believed killed in action. Seaman Southall is the son of Mrs. H. A. Southall, 222 Kilbride Avenue, West Kildonan, of Winnipeg, Manitoba and had been on active service with the Canadian navy since October, 1941. His wife, the former Jessie Stevenson, of Winnipeg, resides in Halifax. Seaman Southall was born in West Kildonan and received his education at Centennial and Machray schools, where he was a member of school hockey and football teams. Prior to enlistment he was employed with the W. H. Escott Company. He has four sisters, Mrs. T. Spence, Sioux Lookout, Ont. Mrs. J. Simpson, Selkirk, Man. Mrs. A. H. Brown, Lac du Bonnet, and Mrs. W. Gracey, at home.

Stoker Oswald Bertman Stephens is the son of Mr. and Mrs. George and Verna Stephens, of Queens Elizabeth Way, Long Branch, Ontario. Born on family homestead, where his parents still reside, he was educated in Long Branch public School his wife Mrs. Marie Stephens indicated. Joining the navy at the declaration of the war, he married four years ago. Prior to enlisting he was employed for several years at a cold storage plant near Browns line in Long Branch. He has no children. He would never mention where his destroyer had been operating or how dangerous had been his activities. I understand however that he had worked out of the England and Canadian ports. He was last home on leave in August, 1941. Since then we haven't had a chance to be together, Mrs. Stephens declared.

GOUGH, Frank William, C1HT, RCN / RCNR (served 05 Jan 1950 - 01 Apr 1985) - beloved husband of Jean of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Thursday, September 6, 2007 at the age of 75 years. Frank was born December 13, 1931 in Okotoks, Alberta. He grew up in Midnapore and received his education at Lacombe Home. Frank was a plumber and gas fitter by trade. In his earlier years Frank travelled the world while serving in the Navy and the Reserves. In the latter part of his career he was self employed and installed well heads for the oil and gas industry. Frank spent many happy years at Chestermere Lake while building his dream home. Frank worked hard all his life, but always found time to entertain family and friends and was always there to lend a hand when needed. Besides his loving wife Jean, Frank is also survived by his stepchildren Lynn and Maynard Witzaney, Debbie Mulgrew and Bryan Mulgrew; brothers Harold and Walter; sisters Bernice Williamson, Sister Francis Gough, Muriel (Al) Devitt and Eileen (Cookie) Gough; sister-in-law Shirley Gough as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Frank was predeceased by his Mother Meta, Father Vivian; brother Patrick and sister Kathleen Halford. HNATIUK, James Joseph William, CPO1, C.A.F. - 67, died unexpectedly on August 18, 2018 and returned home to his heavenly father. James was blessed with a large and loving family. He was born in Emo, Ontario to the late Peter and Mary Hnatiuk and later raised by Andrew and Helen Hajdu. He is survived by siblings, Anne, George, John, Helen, Margarite, Nick and Patsy and preceded in death by Sophie and Michael. James married the love of his life, Ellen Theresa on September 8, 1973. He was a dedicated father to son Douglas James and daughter Carlleen Ann. He was also a loving grandfather to grandsons Jaedon, Linden, Anderson and Greyson, who he cherished beyond words. James was a kind and passionate man, who always had time to answer a question or solve a problem, no matter how big or small. He went above and beyond in everything he did, always giving 110%. He was a sailor for 25 years, rising to the highest non commissioned rank of Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. He was an avid hunter and fisherman, and after retiring from the military went on to open Hnatiuk’s Hunting & Fishing Retail store and gun range. He was the leader of the Christian Heritage Party from 2008-2014, a Deacon for 13 years, missionary and a published author, “Torments to Miracles”. Most of all, he was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is dearly missed by his loved ones, who celebrate the fact that he is at peace with his creator. A celebration of life will be held at Emmanuel Baptist Church on Pockwock Rd in Hammonds Plains at 2:00pm on Monday 27 August, 2018 with reception right after. Pastor Lennett Anderson will officiate the service. Prayers, condolences and memories are greatly appreciated by the family.

COMISH, Frank Edgar, PO, RCN / C.A.F. - It is with great sadness that the family announces the passing of Frank Edgar Comish, 92 of New Minas. He was the son of the late John and Eleanor (Curtis) Comish. After joining the Canadian Forces at the age of 18, Frank served 30 years in the Navy. He proudly sailed on 13 different ships. Before retiring, in 1974, he finished off his career in the forces, teaching Gunnery at Stadacona. After retiring, he served as a Commissionaire at Aldershot. Once retired, Frank had more time to enjoy some forgotten hobbies, like gardening and snaring rabbits to make fresh rabbit stew or feeding the neighborhood stray cats. Having never obtained a driver's license, Frank was often seen out on one of his daily walks or taking a senior bus trip, bowling or to a musical jam session with his loving wife of 48 years, Bernice. Along with his loving wife, Bernice, he is survived by sons Stephen; Shaun (Sharon); Kevin, all of Dartmouth; daughters Melanie (Ron) Roy, Dartmouth; Brenda Lee (Ed White), Orlando, Florida; step-sons Frank (Judy) Russell, New Minas; John Russell, Port Williams; Brian (Roberta) Russell, Forest Home; step-daughters Marlene (Doug) Beatty, Ontario; Nancy (Ron Mappleback) Russell, Wolfville Ridge; sisters Mona Smith, Victoria, BC; Ethel Comish, Hamilton, ON; 26 grandchildren, including special granddaughter, Christina (she loved her Grampy "Poppie" dearly); 27 great-grandchildren; two great great-grandchildren (one more on the way); several nieces and nephews. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by step-sons Eric Schofield and Kirk Russell; step-daughter-in-law Marg Russell; brothers Charlie and Don; sister Elsie. BOURBONNAIS, John (12 Apr 1925 - 22 Jul 2018) - Peacefully, at Actionmarguerite - St. Boniface (Taché Centre), aged 93. He will be deeply missed by his sons, Bill (Bev) and John (Marilyn); grandchildren, Michelle (Tim), Nicole (Rowan), Andrew, and Jeff; and great-grandchildren, Joseph, Eva, and Nina. He was predeceased by Frances, his beloved wife of 46 years; sisters, Yolande, Léonne, Lorraine, and Ghislaine; and brothers, Léo and Lucien. He leaves to mourn brothers, Louis (June), Fr. Denis O.M.I., and Philippe; and special friend Christel Drews. John lived in Winnipeg his entire life. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy at 18 years of age and served until the Second World War was over. He worked at the Imperial Oil Refinery for 25 years, then was the Maintenance Supervisor for Seine River School Division for seven years. After he retired, he spent many winters with Mom in Arizona. He designed and built the family cottage at Twin Lakes Beach in the early 1960s and loved spending time with family and friends there. He enjoyed his daily swims and especially playing in the water with his grandchildren. He was an avid bowler, baseball player, tennis player, and duck hunter. Dad could build or repair anything, and was always willing to share his skills with anyone who needed help. The family would like to thank the staff of Actionmarguerite - St. Boniface for their care and support throughout his six year stay. Eulogy will be begin at 1:45 p.m. followed by the Funeral Mass at 2:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 25, 2018 at Précieux-Sang Church, 200 Kenny Street, Winnipeg. AITKENHEAD, Ronald (Archie) (13 Feb 1941 - 18 Aug 2018) - known to most as "Archie", passed away peacefully, at home in Brighton, after a very long illness. Beloved husband to Iris (nee Merke), caring father to Melody (Richard), Holly (Mark) and Kim (Scott), and very proud grandfather/papa to Joshua, Jordan, Kyle, Gavin, Sharon, Emily and Kate. He will forever be remembered as one who put his family first and whom always entertained those around him with many stories. He travelled to exotic places in his early years when he served time in the Navy. A welder by trade, as well, a volunteer firefighter with his two brothers (Jack and Norm) and a few years as a paramedic in Wawa, ON. In his late 40s, he had a life changing accident while working as a welder at Algoma Ore. With an early retirement, he spent his days fishing, playing card games with his family, and drinking a Tim's coffee (just the way he liked it) while road tripping in his convertible with Iris at the wheel. In memory, lift up your glass and toast - a husband, a dad, a grandpa, a papa, a brother, an uncle and a friend - entertaining everyone with a tall tale. We will miss you. Rest In Peace. GRIST, Robert Tudor (Bob), MedA, RCN / C.A.F. - of Greenwood, NS, passed away peacefully at the Annapolis Community Health Centre on August 22, 2018. Robert “Bob” Grist, born January 25, 1936, in Brantford, Ontario, was the only son of Alexander and Helen (Nesbitt) Grist. Bob joined the Royal Canadian Navy at a young age and served 30 plus years as a medic on various ships stationed on the Atlantic coast. While stationed in the Halifax area, Bob met and fell in love with and married Patricia M. Driscoll and 60 plus years of marriage, Bob and Patricia enjoyed a wonderful loving life together. Bob enjoyed reading, penning letters and was a science fiction enthusiast. Bob was a backyard naturalist and enjoyed all nature’s creatures, especially his pets Jake, Salley and Wendel. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by his wife, Patricia on February 17, 2017. Robert was the father to David (Sue), Halifax; Mark (Mary), Sydney; Sandy (Mai), Brisbane, Australia; Steven (Sylvia), Edmonton, AB; Michael (Wanda), Oromocto, NB; Suzanne (Oren) Gould, Halifax; Liz ( Ron) Wojcik, Halifax; Sarah (Mahmood) Fadhil, Halifax; Patrick, Greenwood; Robert (Mandy), Halifax and many grandchildren and great grandchildren. GODFREY, Frederick William (Bill), C1BN, 9311-E, RCN / R4978, RCNR (served 10 May 1949 - 20 Sep 1988) - age 81 years, passed away in the T.B.R.H.S.C. on Sunday, April 14, 2013 with his family at his side. Bill was born in Fort William on January 10, 1932 to Fred and Edna Godfrey. A lifetime resident of Thunder Bay he worked as a Firefighter, Fire Inspector and then Chief Fire Prevention Officer, retiring in 1991 after 34 your years in Fire Services. A veteran, Bill served with the Royal Canadian Navy during the Korean War and later with the Naval Reserve, retiring as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class, Coxswain of HMCS GRIFFON. Bill enjoyed spending time at the camp at Floral Beach and his daily swims at Volunteer Pool. He and Shirley Olson were married in Port Arthur on December 8, 1955 and together raised two children Scott and Carolyn. A loving and devoted husband he spent every day of the last few years making daily visits to Shirley at her residence at Bethammi Nursing Home. Bill is survived by his wife Shirley, son Scott, daughter Carolyn (Bob) Garrity, grandchildren Sean, and Shirley, brother Robert, sister-in-law June Oliver (John) Trenton, Ontario, brother-in-law Ron Olson, Trenton, Ontario, and nieces, nephews and his cousins. He was predeceased by his parents. A private interment service will be held at a later date in Riverside Cemetery. He will be sadly missed by his many nieces and nephews. Walter was a Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and a retired Canada Post employee. MORANCY, Cecil Omar, Radar Operator, RCNVR -  passed away in the TBRHSC on Sunday, September 19th, 2010 after a five month illness surrounded by loving family members. He was born in Fort William on January 12th, 1923, then resided in Ouimet, ON until the age of 7. The family moved back to Fort William. He worked as a bellhop in the Royal Edward Hotel in his teen years. At 16 years he worked for Mr. Roy Dawes in his fur store. Cecil did deliveries and helped in the store with Mr. Dawes. He volunteered to serve Canada in the RCNVR in 1941. He was trained as a radar operator in Halifax. He served on corvettes escorting convoys across the Atlantic Ocean to Great Britain and on mine sweepers on the invasion of Omaha Beach. He married Helen Mary MacKenzie on April 30th, 1945 when he was home on leave for 10 days. Cecil was discharged from active duty in August 1945. When he came home to Port Arthur, he was fortunate to get employment at Current River Abitibi Pulp Mill. He worked in the finishing room of the mill for a few years, then transferred to the mechanical department to work as a sheet metal worker. He worked at the mill for 17 years. He then started work as an apprenticeship councellor for the Department of Labour for 5 years, then started work with the Ontario Public Service Union as a union representative. He retired from that position in May 1983. In his younger years, he was a trainer for junior hockey teams in the 50's. Cecil is survived by his wife Helen Mary, sons Ron in Thunder Bay, John (Barbara) in Thunder Bay, Alan (Carol) in Vancouver, BC, daughter Maryann (Richard) Mauro in North Vancouver, BC, sisters Dorothy Demchuk, Peggy Martin and Annette Skinner. Also survived by 6 grandchildren Jim (Carm), Jeff (Laura), Colin (Lana), Morgan (Ryan), Tara (Nathan) and Andrew (Kelly), 8 great grandchildren, MacKenzie, Matthew, Aiden, Cole, Caleb, Jonah, Mathew and Brody. Predeceased by his parents Omar and Ellen Morancy, sister Audrey Major and brother Russel Morancy, two grandsons, John Mathew and Baby Morancy and daughter-in-law Barbara Elaine Morancy. Funeral services will be held on Friday, September 24th, 2010 at Lakeview Presbyterian Church on Camelot Street beginning at 1:00 pm. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre or the Naval Memorial Fund would be greatly appreciated by the family.

DOCKSEY, Donald Charles, AB, 3745, RCN, died - 26 Nov 1942, HMCS NIOBE - Born 09 Apr 1923 son of Percy George and Florence Georgina Docksey, London, ON.

Able Seaman D. C. Docksey was killed in a traffic accident in Glasgow, Scotland. He was knocked down by a bus in the city blackout. He sustained a fracture at the base of his skull. He is buried in Greenock Cemetery, Renfrewshire, Scotland.

GOREING, Frank, OS, 4524, RCN, died - 24 Jan 1943, HMCS CHATHAM - Born 04 Aug 1924 son of Mr. and Mrs. Richard Goreing, Galt, ON.

Ordinary Seaman Frank Goreing was accidentally killed when a rifle discharged as it was being picked up in a small boat. Ordinary Seaman Goreing was shot in the chest and died within minutes. He is buried in the Mount View Cemetery, Cambridge, ON.

RADCLIFFE, Kenneth John (Ken) - Born June 18, 1926, Toronto, ON; died  April 18, 2016, Calgary, AB. In one short week Ken went from being able to visit to being released into God's hands on Monday, April 18, just two months short of his 90th birthday. Ken was born in 1926 in Toronto. He was the eldest of three children born to Fred and Zilpha Radcliffe. Ken had a brother Ger, born in 1932 and a sister Mary Ruth, born when he was ten. Ken saw education as so important. He was in school in Toronto for the first eight years at Humbercrest Public and then four years at UTS. After graduating he spent one year in Electrical Engineering at the University of Toronto. At this point he joined the Royal Canadian Navy but was never part of the war instead being part of training at Millard Ontario. Following Ken's discharge, he moved to Montreal West to live with his family and then completed his Electrical Engineering degree in 1948. While at McGill University Ken met his future wife Lois who took Physiotherapy at McGill graduating as well in 1948. Ken and Lois married in 1950. Ken joined GE Canada in 1948 and worked for the company for 43 years until his retirement at the age of 65. During his career he moved across the county as he pursued a career in sales being retrained twice, once in nuclear power and the other was in combustion gas turbines that brought him to Calgary. Ken and Lois had two children, David and Jane, both children being born in London Ontario. In 1998, Lois died from complications from Breast Cancer. Ken never gave up or complained about life. In 1988 he became a left below the knee amputee. Then in 2007 Ken became a right below the knee amputee. He fought hard to master skills allowing him to use a walker. His prosthetist Milan stood by him for 25 years. In 2007 Ken moved to Lake Bonavista Village and spent seven years there. For the last two years he has been at the Maison. He was well loved and became a part of their "family" taking an interest in all the staff and their families. He was fortunate to meet Vera there, someone who brought so much joy to his life. Ken is survived by his sister-in-law June; brother-in-law David; son David and his wife Lenore and their children Sarah (Cal) Fleck, and Scott (Vicky) Radcliffe; five great-grandchildren Hunter, Bennett, Hayden, Chase, and Chloe; and daughter Jane and her husband Rein. He was predeceased by his brother Ger and sister Mary Ruth. RICHARDSON, Clayton Harvey - Born December 2, 1925, Three Hills, AB. Died November 16, 2015, Calgary, AB. Passed away on November 16, 2015 at the age of 89 years. Clay was born in Twining, Alberta, the second of two children born to Elizabeth and William Richardson. He and his older sister Doris attended school in Three Hills, Alberta. Following graduation, Clay quickly enlisted in the Canadian Navy in 1943. Clay was discharged at the end of WWII and began his studies in Pharmacy at the University of Alberta in 1948. He began his career in pharmacy at Horsley Drugs in Red Deer in 1952 and later moved to Waterbury Drugs in Three Hills. Clay married Jean (Christie) in June 1953. He had an opportunity in 1956 to pioneer his own drugstore in Hinton, AB as a new pulp mill was under construction. He and Jean owned and managed King Value Drug Mart until 1989. Clay was very active in the Hinton community as the president of the Chamber of Commerce, President of the Progressive Conservative Association as well as President of the Optimist club. Clay was often seen helping with projects that improved the Town of Hinton and assisted with the hand digging of the first outdoor swimming pool, helping to build the clubhouse at the golf course, helping with the minor hockey program and helping to build the first curling rink in Hinton. Clay and Jean retired to Salmon Arm, BC in 1989 and enjoyed many years spending summers at Mara Lake BC and winters in Mesa, AZ. Clay and Jean were actively involved with the Rotary Club of Salmon Arm and were awarded the distinguished Paul Harris Award. In 2000 Clay and Jean moved to Calgary to be closer to family. Clay also became involved with the Rotary Club of Calgary and remained active until 2014. He enjoyed a very special closeness and camaraderie with his brother-in-law, Tom Christie following Jean's death in 2002. Clay leaves behind many good friends at Sienna Park Green. Clayton was very proud of his rural farming upbringing and achieved success by working hard, serving people and looking for ways to make his community a better place. He was a strong role model and provider for his family. We will always miss our Dad and Poppa dearly but will remember him with a smile, a wink and a happy heart.

MAJKO, Steven John (Steve) - beloved husband of Betty Majko, of Calgary, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 30, 2015 at the age of 89 at the Chinook Care Centre Hospice. Steve was born in Elphinstone, Manitoba on March 12, 1926. He served in the Navy during World War II. After the war he graduated from the University of Manitoba and worked in several architectural offices in Montreal. He then joined an international corporation in the manufactured housing industry with plants in Canada and Hawaii. He became well known in this industry in North America having been closely associated with its development for most of his career. After a brief retirement period in 1985, he went back to work for another 15 years as an industrial/commercial realtor in Calgary. Steve's working career spanned some fifty one years. He lead an interesting and full life, loved his wife, children and granddaughters. Steve was an avid reader of autobiographies and enjoyed a broad range of music and sports. He is survived by his loving wife Betty of 62 years; his son John (Debbie), daughter Anne-Marie (Rick) and granddaughters, Michelle and Melissa; sister, Anne; brother, Peter (Annette) and numerous relatives and friends. He was predeceased by his son, David. We wish to thank the wonderful staff from Palliative Home Care and the Chinook Care Centre Hospice for their loving care and kindness. At Steve's request, there will be a private family celebration of life.

WATSON, Irving Archibald (Soapy) - With heavy hearts we announce the passing of Irving Archibald "Soapy" Watson on August 12, 2018. He was surrounded by his family who loved him and will miss him very much. He was predeceased by his parents, Archie and Doris (Thompson) Watson; sister, Doris; nephews, Jimmy and Jonny. Irving is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nicole (Robinson); children and spouses, Shelley (Stephen), Andrew (Tamara) and Matthew (Natalie); sisters, Heather, Teresa, and brother, David; his grandchildren who he loved so much, Lauren, Aaron, Katelyn, Adam, Hunter, Miranda, Austin and Grace; great- grandchildren, Jaxson and Kingston; also nieces, Angela, Susan, Kathy; and nephew, David. Irving had a long career as a civil servant, having served in the Canadian Navy for 25 years with postings to many ships, but his heart was forever a Submariner. Irving also worked for the Canadian Postal Service, working in offices in Halifax, Sydney and North Sydney. He made many friends over the years and will be remembered fondly by everyone who knew and loved him. A special thank you to the staff of Closing the Gap. We can't thank them enough for their kindness, compassion and patience while helping to care for our father over the last few years. We would also like to thank the staff at the QEII Health Sciences Centre and especially those working in the 4.2 unit. The care and dignity that they treated Pops with in his final days will never be forgotten. There will be a family service at a later date. Soapy was a Life Member of the SAOC(E). He joined the Submarine community early 1960's as a Canadian serving in RN Boats both in the UK as well as a stint in Singapore sailing in HMS Andrew. Irv was Commissioning Crew HMCS Onondaga until 1973 we he was medically returned to General Service. Soapy is the Canadian who liberated the well protected "Miss Wahoo" from the USS Wahoo whilst HMS Andrew and USS Wahoo were side by each in Japan. By all accounts Soapy had quite the ride in Submarines.

HALLAS, James R., Tel, RCN - At the Royal Jubilee Hospital on May 17, 1985. Aged 84 years, born in Peterborough, England. HEROLD, Peter Russell, CPO, RCN - suddenly in hospital on June 23, 1987, aged 66 years old, born in Reist, Alberta on September 4, 1920. He was a retired Chief Petty Officer, RCN and recently retired from HMC Dockyard. Survived and sadly missed by his loving wife, Kay; three sons and their wives, Peter and Alana of Vancouver, BC, Michael and Sandy of Nanaimo, BC and Jeff and Barb of Tsawwassen, BC; grandchildren, Kristi and Sean of Nanaimo; brother Joe of Calgary; sisters, Alice Matvenko of Keremeos, BC, Ella Savage and Jenny Krisa of Calgary, AB; numerous nieces and nephews. BRENNAN, Thomas Edwin, OA 4c, X41038, RCN, died - 13 Mar 1943, HMCS NADEN - born 03 Dec 1898 son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas Brennan; husband of Elizabeth J. Brennan, North Vancouver, BC.

Ordnance Artificer T. E. Brenman died of coronary occlusion (heart attack), partial or complete obstruction of blood flow in a coronary artery while serving at HMCS Naden.  He is buried at the North Vancouver Cemetery, Vancouver, BC.
