military service, Ken was provided opportunities to further his
education, resulting in his receiving post secondary degrees at the
University of British Columbia (BAppISc), University of Aston, U.K.
(MSc) and Advanced Officer Training (Royal Naval College,

excellence in military service not only reflected his gratitude for
these educational opportunities but also enabled Ken to
significantly contribute to his various ship and land based
appointments. Eventually retiring in 1982, and having made lasting
friends during his naval career, Ken then entered the marine
engineering consulting business from which he retired in 1990,
allowing him to then spend time with his beloved family and friends,
and to pursue his passion for sailing. Ken was particularly pleased
to spend time on the water with people new to sailing, and formed
many lasting friendships through this activity. Ken strongly valued
education and willingly served as coach and mentor to his
grandchildren, children of friends and many others through Learn to
Read programs. Dad (Baboo) will always be remembered by his children
and grandchildren for his encouragement and support in any venture
they undertook. His unconditional and unwavering love played a
significant and continuing role in all their lives. The family would
like to extend heartfelt thanks to Dr. David E. Bell, and feel
blessed by his caring, his commitment and for his outstanding
medical attention. To Carol and Misha at Victoria Hospice, our
gratitude for your compassionate care. Ken will always be remembered
for his laugh, smile and the way in which he made every day the best
for all. His life journey will continue with fair winds, a following

HOOPER, Frederick
Ronald (Ron), MMM, CD, C1RP, 6491-E, RCN / C.A.F. (served 26 Nov
1946 - 29 Dec 1976) - with his family by his side, Ron stood his
last watch on March 29, 2000. Predeceased by his parents Fred and
Maude Hooper, Ron is survived by his wife Joan, daughters Tracey, leslies
and son-in-law Bob; sisters, Ethel (Gordon) Stewart and Rene (Ivan)
Armitage, and many nieces and nephews. Ron was born on October 24,
1928 in Birtle, MB. Following his High School graduation, he joined
the Royal Canadian Navy and served in the Korean War (1950-51)
aboard HMCS Cayuga. After 30 years of respected and distinguished
service, he retired in 1976 and spent the next five years with the
Naval Reserve Summer training program at Esquimalt. Following
retirement, Ron shared his love of traveling with Joan and returned
with her to many of his favourite ports. When at home, he carried on
his father's legacy of creating gardens that were the envy of all
his neighbours. Ron was blessed with an insatiable curiosity and a
thirst for knowledge. If he didn't have his nose in a book, he was
researching and cataloguing his stamp collection, identifying birds,
or resuming his boyhood hobby of butterfly-watching. His enthusiasm
for his hobbies was infectious and inspirational. In his latter
years, he prided himself on having become an accomplished chef - a
new-found hobby that Joan heartily supported. He was a devoted
husband, a loving, supportive, and generous father, a cherished
brother, a favourite uncle, a respected friend. He was a true
gentleman and a gift to us all. Many thanks to the nurses and
friends who supported Ron and his family over the past months. Ron
asked that donations be made to the World Wildlife Fund, the Nature
Conservancy or Canada, or the C & POs Veterans Assistance
Society. If desired, flowers could be sent to shut-ins. Ron's ship
set sail in the final hour of a beautiful spring day. It was a good
night for sailing. No service. Friends are invited to raise a glass
and celebrate Ron's life at a gathering on Saturday, April 29th,
2:00-5:00 pm. at 1091 Vic Place, Brentwood Bay, BC.

CAMERON, David
Allen, RCAF - After a lengthy illness, the life journey of David
Cameron has come to the end. He passed away quietly in the early
morning hours at Victoria Hospice on September 18th, 2018. David was
an intensely proud Canadian who served his country starting as a
teenager when he joined the Air Cadets. In College he served with
the Air Force Reserves and then joined the Royal Canadian Air Force.
His more than 22 years of military service took him to the cold
Arctic north at Alert, to peacekeeping duties with the United
Nations in the Golan Heights (Syria), and around the world during 11
years on warships with the RCN. David was born in Montreal (1953),
raised in Ottawa and Trenton and attended college in Toronto. After
leaving the military, he resided and was employed in Victoria. He
will be fondly remembered, and sadly missed by family, friends and
comrades at the RCL Britannia #7. He is survived by his brothers
Donald (Ann) of Trenton, Douglas (Kathy) of Lantzville, nieces and
nephews, and loyal loving friend, Ethel. A Celebration of his life
will be held at the RCL Britannia #7, 780 Summit Ave., Victoria, on
Saturday, September 29th, 1:30 till 4:00 pm. Please join us and
share your memories. (Victoria Times Colonist 22 Sep 2018)

COAKLEY, Daniel J.,
Royal Navy / Capt. (ANAV), RCN /C.A.F. (25 Oct 1929 - 28 Aug
2018) - It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of
Danny. Danny moved to Canada from the Royal Navy in 1955 to join the
RCN, where he spent the next 30 years, mainly in Shearwater as a
Naval Aviator (Avenger, Tracker, Sea King). He was proud to be part
of the introduction of both the Tracker and Sea King to the Navy.
His proudest achievements though were the 7 children he had with
Caroline: Geraldine (Mike Foley), Chris (Mary), Mary (Matt Lambert),
Andrew (Myrtle), Tim (Arlene) Fergus, and Jennifer (Daryl Atkinson).
He also welcomed Stephen & Michele (Keith Chown) as his own
children when he married Patricia, who predeceased him in 2014.
Danny also had 15 grandchildren (each his favorite!) and 6 great
grandchildren. Danny was an extraordinarily entertaining
storyteller, enhanced by his Irish upbringing and love of company, a
gifted artist, woodworker and gardener. He was also a lover of
Classical Music, Netflix, and Maynards Wine Gums. Danny will be
missed by, Caroline, all of his children and their families and his
many friends across Canada and the UK. (Victoria Times Colonist 22
