LAWRENCE, Thomas Edward, AB, V37688, RCNVR, MPK - 24 Nov 1944, HMCS SHAWINIGAN - Son of Mr. and Mrs. Charles Ernest Lawrence; husband of Rose J. Lawrence, all of Saskatoon, SK.
Able Seaman Thomas Edward Lawrence of Saskatoon was the son of Charles Ernest Lawrence and left a wife Rose J. at Saskatoon (later Mrs. Murray). Thomas was born at Gilbert Plains, Manitoba and was raised in Saskatchewan. He was working as a yardman for the CPR when he enlisted in 1941 at Saskatoon, Saskatchewan, H.M.C.S. Unicorn. He was trained as a Radar and Wireless operator. He was sent overseas on May 04, 1942. In 1944 he was on leave in Saskatchewan (Saskatoon I believe) subject to a re-assignment on return to Halifax. He left Saskatoon on Nov. 11 1944 by rail and was assigned to H.M.C.S. Shawinigan.
AB Lawrence died when HMCS SHAWINIGAN was sunk by U-1228 on 24 Nov 1944. Of her crew of 91, there were no survivors.
