They made the Ultimate Sacrifice
STREET, Ronald - 43, Sydney Mines, April 7, 1964 - February 26, 2008. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Ron Street, on Tuesday, February 26, 2008, in Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney, after a courageous two year battle with cancer. Born in Port aux Basques, N.L., he was a son of Matthew and Ruth (Skinner) Street. Ron had a long and distinguished career with the Royal Canadian Navy, beginning in July of 1981. He was dedicated to, and loved, the military, and especially the sea, having served on Her Majesty's Canadian Ships Charlottetown, Iroquois, Athabaskan, Algonquin, and Protecteur. He also served onshore at CFB Halifax, CFB Greenwood, and CFS Gander. One of the highlights of Ron's career was a six month tour of duty at CFS Alert, from March to September 2005. Ron was very proud of the fact that he was a cook and had the privilege of preparing meals for Pope John Paul II, Governor-General Adrienne Clarkson, and members of the British Royal Family. An avid outdoorsman, Ron enjoyed four-wheeling, moose hunting, and fishing. He also enjoyed making Christmas crafts and drawing. He was a big fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs. He loved to go to the rink and watch his sons play hockey in the winter and baseball in summer. One of his favourite things was to entertain people with his stories and jokes, on Saturdays, while he was preparing a good scoff for them. Ron is survived by his loving, devoted wife and best friend, Michelle (Prince); his sons, who were very precious to him, Matthew Bubs , and Max, and his beautiful daughters, Melissa (Pete) and Keisha. Besides his parents, he is also survived by sister, Mildred (Sean) Osmond, East Bay; brothers, Johnny (Joan) Street, Port aux Basques; Art (Paula) Street, Lloydminster, Sask.; Sheldon (Heidi) Street, Port aux Basques, and Trevor (Nicki) Street, Port aux Basques. Also left to mourn are his mother and father-in-law, Clarence and Catherine Prince, whom he loved dearly; sister-in-law, Deanna (Chris) Tobin, Sydney Mines; brothers-in-law, Daryl Gorman and Alex Prince, both of Halifax, and a number of aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was predeceased by his sister-in-law, Colette Gorman. Visitation for Ron was held in J.M. Jobes Funeral Home, 635 Main St., Sydney Mines, on Friday, February 29, from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. The funeral service will take place today at 11 a.m. in Trinity Anglican Church, with Rev. Peter Rafuse officiating. According to Ron's wishes, cremation will follow the service. Donations in Ron's memory may be made to the Canadian Cancer Society or Palliative Care Society. Ron, you will be missed dearly by all, and remembered in our hearts.
MS Ronald Street is buried in the St. Joseph Cemetery, Sydney Mines, NS.
