ALEXANDER, Rene Darryl, LS.BN, C.A.F., died - 26 Nov 2002, HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN / Stadacona (CFB Halifax)
ALEXANDER, Rene Darryl (1959-2002) - It was with great sadness that the family of Leading Seaman R. Darryl Alexander, 43, of Catidian Place, Lunenburg County, announce his sudden passing on Tuesday, November 26, 2002 at the Stadacona Hospital, Halifax. Born in Halifax, he was the son of Jack and Blanche (Isnor) Alexander of Italy Cross. Darryl served in the Canadian Navy for the last 23 years as a boatswain, currently serving on HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN. He also served on HMCS PRESERVER, and HMCS IROQUOIS. He served in the Gulf War, and received the Kuwait Medal. Darryl also took part in the Swiss Air rescue effort off the coast of Nova Scotia. He was a leader with the local Beavers Club. Darryl was a friend to so many, and will be sadly missed by all those who knew him. Darryl is survived by his parents, Jack and Blanche Alexander of Italy Cross; wife Sharon Rodenhiser; his daughter Rene Alexander of Halifax; step-daughter Christal of Fairfield, Conn., and her twin children Sameer and Sanjay; step-son Cory Rodenhiser of Bridgewater; sister Denise and her husband Jeff Sooley of Prospect Bay; brother Blake and his wife Judy Alexander of Bermuda. Memorial service with Full Military Honours was held Saturday, November 30, 2002 at Bridgewater United Church, 87 Hillcrest Street, Bridgewater, Padre Steve Merriman officiated. Interment will be at sea at a later date. No flowers by request, memorial donations may be made to the Kidney Foundation, the M.S. Society, or to the Diabetic Association. Funeral arrangements were under the direction of the Dana L. Sweeny Funeral Home, 11213 Hwy. #3, Lunenburg. (The South Shore Now)
