Henry served in the RCNVR during WW2 as a Stoker and a Shipwright from 1942 to 1945. While he served in HMCS HURON she escorted 3 convoys to Russia on the Murmansk Run and 2 return convoys as well as participated in the Battle of the North Cape in which the German battlecruiser KM Scharnhorst was sunk on 26 Dec 1943.

Commenced active service 02 Jun 1942 HMCS YORK - Served in York 06 Jun 1942 - 17 Aug 1942 as a Sto 2c HMCS CORNWALLIS - Served in Cornwallis 18 Aug 1942 - 29 Oct 1942 as a Sto 2c HMCS YORK - Served in York 30 Oct 1942 - 11 Jan 1943 as a Sto 2c for a Motor Operators Course. Rated Sto 1c (M) 01 Jan 1943 HMCS STADACONA - Served in Stadacona 12 Jan 1943 - 08 Apr 1943 as a Sto 1c (M) HMCS NIOBE - Served in Niobe 09 Apr 1942 - 10 Dec 1943 as a Sto 1c (M) HMCS HURON - Served in Huron 11 Dec 1943 - 15 Feb 1944 as a Sto 1c (M) and A/Shpt 4c. Rated A/Shpt 4c 14 Jan 1944 HMCS NIOBE - Served in Niobe 16 Feb 1944 - 28 May 1945 as an A/Shpt 4c and Shpt 4c. Rated Shpt 3c 14 Jan 1945 HMCS PEREGRINE - Served in Peregrine 29 May 1945 - 10 Jul 1945 HMCS CHIPPAWA - Drafted to Chippawa 11 Jul 1945. Demobilized 06 Sep 1945
