TAYLOR, Glenwood Lawrence, OS, V26051, RCNVR, MPK - 07 Sep 1942, HMCS RACCOON - Son of Hiram Eugene and Lydia Adelia Taylor, of Bridgewater, NS.

 

OS Taylor died when his ship, HMCS RACCOON, which was on convoy escort in the St. Lawrence River off the Gaspé Peninsula, was hit and sunk by two torpedoes from U165. All 37 hands were lost.

 


 

Word was received Monday by Mr. and Mrs. Hiram Taylor that their son Glenwood Lawrence Taylor, A.B. was reported missing at sea.

 

Mr. Taylor who is 21 years of age, enlisted at Halifax just prior to his 20th birthday, having previously made several trips to Barbados with Capt. Andy Publicover of LaHave. Mr. Taylor is a member of a large family.

 

His father and mother who have been an invalid for the past year, are both living, as are three brothers, Rex now serving in the Royal Canadian Navy; Harry of Lake Centre; Wilbert of Waterloo, Quebec; and five sisters, Hattie at Kingston, N.S.; Blanche, Mrs. Clarence Rhodenhizer, Dayspring; Edna, Mrs. Bert Allan, Montreal; Violet, Mrs. Antonio Alves of Boston, Mass. and Alma at home. Glenwood's brother, Rex Harold Taylor, served in the RCNR during the Second World War.
