HMCS YPRES J70 / Gate Vessel 1
Battle Class Trawler
Built by Polson Iron Works, Toronto, Ont. Her specifications were: Displacement: 320 tons, Length: 130 ft, Beam: 23.5 ft, Draught: 13.5 ft, Speed: 10 kts, Armament: 1-12pdr. She was initially in service from 10 Nov 1917 to 1920. YPRES was re-commissioned as a training ship in 01 May 1923. She was placed in reserve in Nov 1923 and used as a training ship from 1923 until 1932. In 1938 she merged from refit as Gate Vessel 1 of Halifax boom defence. On 12 May 1940, she was sunk in a collision with HMS REVENGE at Halifax, fortunately without loss of life.
