LENNOX, Harvey Armstrong - In his 95th year on Tuesday, January 10th after a brief illness at Extendicare Hamilton. Predeceased by his much loved wife of 61 years, Cicely-Joan Lennox (nee Newmarch). He will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by his children, Susan (Bill), Peter (Lynne) and John (Geri), and grandchildren Richard (Jayne), Mark, Andrew, Amy, Michael and Kimberley.

 

Harvey was born in Hamilton, Ontario to John and Jean Hamilton Lennox, brother to George Robertson Lennox and half brother to John McCullough Griffith Lennox (all deceased). After attending Hillcrest School, Hamilton, Pickering College in Newmarket and Carnegie Tech in Pittsburgh, Harvey worked for several years at Dofasco. He then entered service in the Royal Canadian Navy, training at Royal Roads in Victoria, and eventually achieved the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. At the end of the war he brought his new bride from Vancouver to Hamilton and returned to Dofasco. His long, successful career at Dofasco ended with his retirement in 1973.

 

Harvey was involved with many charities and organizations over the years, including as an elder at St. Paul's Presbyterian Church and as a volunteer for Meals on Wheels V.O.N. He was an active member of the Hamilton Golf & Country Club, the Hamilton Military Institute, the Probus Club and a charter member of the Burlington Golf & Country Club.

 

In keeping with Harvey's wishes, a private funeral has been held. A memorial reception in celebration of Harvey's life will be held at the Hamilton Golf & Country Club, 232 Golf Links Road (at Halson St.), Ancaster on Saturday, January 21st at 1:00 p.m.


In lieu of flowers, Harvey requested that donations be made to the Canadian Red Cross, Hamilton Branch, Disaster Services, 400 King St. East, Hamilton, ON L8N 1C4, St. Paul's Presbyterian Church, Community Outreach, 70 James St. Hamilton, ON L8P 2Y8 or to the charity of your choice.
