SMITH, Kenneth Harry, AB, V70955, RCNVR, MPK - 16 Apr 1945, HMCS ESQUIMALT - Son of Harry and Ethel Smith, of New Westminster, British Columbia.

 

AB Smith died when his ship, HMCS ESQUIMALT, was torpedoed and sunk by U-190 off the approaches to Halifax harbour.

 

Kenneth's friend and shipmate Al Sandor was drafted of ESQUIMALT before he final voyage.  Al Sandor named his second son Kenneth in honour of his friend who did not survive the war.

HMCS DISCOVERY - Enlisted 01 Sep 1943.  Commenced Active Service 29 Dec 1943 as an OS, RCNVR

HMCS CORNWALLIS - Drafted to CORNWALLIS 26 Feb 1944 as an OS, RCNVR

HMCS HAMILTON - Served in HAMILTON 17-23 Jun 1944 for training while drafted to CORNWALLIS

HMCS STADACONA - Drafted to STADACONA 08 Aug 1944 as an OS, RCNVR

HMCS AVALON - Drafted to AVALON 28 Aug 1944 as an OS, RCNVR

HMCS ESQUIMALT - Drafted to ESQUIMALT 25 Sep 1944 as an OS, RCNVR
