NEUFELD, Arthur Sto 1c, V78026, RCNVR, MPK - 18 Mar 1945, HMCS GUYSBOROUGH - Son of Heinrich P. and Katharine Neufeld, of Vancouver, British Columbia.
Stoker Neufelddied died when his ship, HMCS GUYSBOROUGH, was torpedoed and sunk by U-868 in the Bay of Biscay with the loss of 53 of her crew.
Stoker Arthur Neufeld of Vancouver, British Columbia, was the son of Heinrich P. and Katharine Neufeld, Heinrich was a Mennonite minister who moved his family from Herbert to Vancouver just before the war. Arthur was born at Swift Current and worked for a time as a miner at Kimberley and as a machinist at North Vancouver. He served six months in the Rocky Mountain Rangers before transferring to the Navy on January 24, 1944 at Vancouver, British Columbia.
