GUTHRIE, David Norman, OS, V17292, RCNVR - MPK 15 Nov 1942, SS ETTRICK / HMS QUEBEC - Son of David and Gertrude Guthrie. of River Canard, Ontario.
Ordinary Seaman D. N. Guthrie was with the 55th Canadian Landing Craft based at Combined Operations at HMS QUEBEC station near Inveraray, Scotland. He became a member of a flotilla that landed a United States construction battalion at Azew, North Africa on November 08, 1942. After the successfully landing he boarded the M.V. Ettrick for passage to Scotland, when it was torpedoed fifty miles west of Gibraltar on November 15, 1942. Ordinary Seaman R. J. Guthrie was among nine Canadians sailors lost.
David's brother, Robert John Guthrie, also served n the RCNVR during the Second World War.
