WEBB, Horace Merle, LS, 2822, RCN, MPK - 22 Oct 1940, HMCS MARGAREE - Son of Frederick Henry and Ethel Louise Webb, of Victoria, British Columbia.

 

LS Webb died when his ship, HMCS MARGAREE, was lost in a collision with the freighter Port Fairy on 22 Oct 1940 while escorting convoy OL.8.  143 of her ship's company were lost, 86 of them survivors of HMCS FRASER.

 

Horace Webb, was born in Winnipeg and attended Lord Selkirk primary and St John's Technical School. For six years he was a paper carrier for Winnipeg Free Press.

 

Horace's brother, LCdr Frederick Webb served in the RCNVR during the Second World War and RCN post war.  His nephew, MS WS Frederick Webb joined the RCN in 1959.
