ASH, Eldon Joseph, C1RP, 13506-H, RCN / CAF (served 09 Jul 1949 - 07 Aug 1978)  (08 Feb 1931 - 20 Sep 2015) - it is with great sadness we announce the passing of a beloved husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend. Eldon passed peacefully at home after battling a long illness. BARNA, Bohdan (Bugs) - Son of the late John and Anna Barna, Leamington, passed away in Toronto, February 9, 2005 in his 81st year. Father of John, Victoria, B.C.; Dan and wife Yvonne, Ajax, ON; Bill, Oakville; Patti and husband Bob Witmeyer, Oakville; Leslie and husband Kevin Gould, Keswick, ON. Grandfather of Daniel, Thomas, James, Kaitlyn, Jaime, Jordyn, Michael and Steven. Also survived by brother Eugene and wife Marie, Leamington. Best friend of Arlene, Bradford, ON. Many nieces and nephews as well as relatives in the United States, Poland and Ukraine. Cremation has taken place with a private family memorial service to be held at a later date. Bohdan was active as a youth and Leader in 2nd Leamington Scouting and served with the Royal Canadian Navy as Sick Bay Attendant on the H.M.C.S. Buckingham during WW II. BIGALKE, Otto (Big) - was born on March 22nd, 1925 in Poland and passed away on June 13th, 2006 at the age of 81 in Courtenay, B.C. Survived and lovingly remembered by his wife of 50 years, Elva Bigalke, sons John (Betty) and Robert (Ilene) Bigalke, and grandson Chad Bigalke. Otto contributed a significant portion of his life to public service. Starting with his enlistment in the Navy during the Second World War where he served aboard the HMCS Loch Achanalt. After the war Otto joined the R.C.M.P. in 1946 and was stationed in many communities throughout B.C. including Cumberland and Powell River. Otto retired from the RCMP in 1972 at the rank of Staff Sergeant in Powell River and in 2000 was awarded a life membership in the RCMP Veteran's Association in recognition and appreciation of his loyal service. Another career with the Municipal and Provincial governments as a court registrar and Justice of the Peace followed. "Big" enjoyed camping, fishing, bowling, cribbage, and of course golf. Together with his wife they spent many happy years travelling across Canada and the USA in their motorhome visiting family and friends, playing cribbage and golf and meeting new friends. Respected and loved by all who met and knew him Otto was always the calm within any storm. His was a life truly lived and shared with others that will be remembered forever by family and friends. A memorial and Celebration of Otto's Life will be held on Saturday, June 24th at 2 p.m.at the Comox valley Funeral Home 1101 Ryan Rd., Courtenay. BOILEAU, Richard Leon - Age 47, died suddenly May 19, 2012. Born in Granby, Que., the sixth son of a very large family. Predeceased by his parents, Roger and Jeannine and brother, Jacques, he leaves behind to mourn brothers, Pierre, Roch, Marcel, Normand and sisters, Chantal, Johanne and Josee and also many nieces and nephews and other dear family members. He grew up loving the Quebec outdoors, especially winter and was an avid skier, hunter and trapper, loved training race horses with his father and playing hockey. Richard enlisted in the military as soon as he could, actually thriving on Basic Training, due in no small measure to his ability to eat at remarkable speed. His first military posting was to a base which he thought was in Quebec. Portage la Prairie. It was, however, in far distant Manitoba and where he met his soon to be wife, Brenda Lyall. From here he volunteered for the Submarine Service and was transferred to Halifax, NS, where his two children, Danielle and Craig were born. After spending a few years as cook globe-trotting underwater on HMCS Okanagan he was transferred to CFB Kingston, Ont. where he spent a couple very hectic years honing his cooking skills and taking up sky-diving. From there he was sent west again to Manitoba, first with the PPCLI at Kapyong Barracks, Winnipeg and then with 1 RCHA in Shilo, MB. It was here in Manitoba where he rekindled the loves of the outdoorsman, snowmobiling, trapping and hunting, with many subsequent stories and adventures. During this time also he did a tour of duty in Skopje, Macedonia and was also selected on the crew to bring the “new” submarines purchased from Britain back to Canada. This tasking resulting in a nearly year-long stint in Barrow-in-Furness, England and then the long voyage from there on board the HMCS Chicoutimi to Halifax and then HMCS Victoria to CFB Esquimalt in Victoria, BC. Here he renewed his love of diving and re-qualified as ship’s diver, devoting many, many contented hours in the silence of the deep with nothing but the sound of bubbles to distract him from the beauty down there. During his time in Victoria he was assigned to HMCS Victoria, HMCS Vancouver and HMCS Protecteur and just to get him dried off a bit, he also did a tour of duty at the Golan Heights on the Syrian Border. He also found himself transferred back to his motherland, Quebec, CFB Bagotville to be exact, where he spent a couple of years before being transferred back to CFB Esquimalt. By now he was a grandfather of two adorable boys, Jessie and Nikolai who helped him from getting too serious. He found his last posting on board the submarine HMCS Victoria challenging but equally rewarding. The camaraderie on board was very special to him. Throughout his 28 year military career he has come to make many dear friends and hundreds of memorable workmates. He has been a very dedicated soldier and sailor and made many personal sacrifices for his second family. Richard was never one to enjoy sitting on the sidelines. He was a man of action and he died in an accident doing the sport he loved. He will be sorely missed by his family who only wish they’d had more time to share his life. Memorial Service to be held at the Naden Drill Hall on CFB Esquimalt, Saturday, May 26, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. Reception to follow. Remembering Richard Boileau - submitted by Jean Gallagher, P2CK - I was on HMCS Victoria from 2002-2006. I was introduce to submarine service by Richard Boileau in 2002, and was Richard's replacement for Chief Cook onboard HMCS Victoria. What a great loss for the submarine service community and the CF in general. When I heard Richard diving accident, it shook me terribly. Richard was the one who pushed me hard to complete submarine training, I found it hard but at the end extremely rewarding. I will never forget my time onboard. We had fun on subs - I was a tad nervous to say the least but Richard's used his great imagination to relax me - he made two tinfoil hats and decided to play bumper cars in the galley . . . two grown up men, both 40+, acting up. Submarine service was my most rewarding experience in my 27 years of service in the CF. I will never forget my short time on the Victoria and will never forget my late friend and mentor Richard Boileau. DBF

BOUCHARD, Daniel Jean Joseph (Danny) - It is with immense sorrow that we announce the sudden and unexpected passing of our beloved Danny Bouchard (40 years). Danny was a husband and father first, son and son-in-law, uncle and great friend. "Sunshine", as he was often adoringly referred to, spent the last 18 years of his life with the love of his life, Carola, with whom he shared two beautiful children, daughter Alexandra "Lexie" (14) and son Nicholas "Nick" (10). In addition to his immediate family, Danny is survived by his mother and father, Lola and Delphis Bouchard of Quebec; sister Mylene Bouchard and her son Vincent; brothers Roch and Luc; mother and father-inlaw, Horst and Evelyn Kauermann; sister-in-law Stephanie Hunt and her daughter Emily and future brother-in-law, JP Hiekel. After serving 21 distinguished years in the Royal Canadian Navy posted to the HMCS Calgary, and serving two tours in the Persian Gulf, Danny retired from the Navy only to then embark on a second career with the Victoria Police Department after serving 9 years as a Police Reserve Officer. Danny was the light of our lives and touched many people with his infectious smile and sense of humor. He was a caring father, loving husband and had the most generous of hearts, touching many friends at home and abroad. Danny will be missed very much. BOUTILIER, Darryl Wayne - 52, Dartmouth, passed away December 4, 2003, at home. Born in Goose Bay, Labrador, he was a son of Fred and Mary Boutilier, Winnipeg. Darryl served in the Navy for five years as a sonar technician on HMCS Margaree. He worked for Isnor Motors as a mechanic and later was employed with Can Med Surgical Supplies until he retired due to health problems. His interest included computers and golf in his earlier years. In his younger years he was involved in local charities such as St. Vincent De Paul. He is survived by his first wife, Patricia DeLong and children, Michelle (Darrin) Corning, Torbrook; Christopher (Renalda), Grand Prairie, Alta.; Jennifer (Lee) Solomon, Hackett's Cove; second wife, Kathy Walsh and son, Joshua, Dartmouth; sisters, Diane Zink, Lakeside; Gayle Kitchen, Saskatchewan; brothers, Gary and Kevin, both of Winnipeg. grandchildren, Meghan, Hannah, Abigail, Sarah, Ruth, Angela, Lisa, Jacinda, Jared; several nieces and nephews. COX, Edward Clifford - (1925-2012) It is with great sadness we announce Eddie Cox, age 87 passed away peacefully on Monday, September 3, 2012 at St. Joseph’s Hospice. Ed was a lifelong resident of Thunder Bay, retiring from Seagram Corp. in 1990 and previous careers with Kakabeka (Dorans) Breweries. Enlisting in the RCNVR, he served as Asdic operator on the HMCS Buckingham in the North Atlantic. Ed was a superb athlete, playing football as fullback and kicker for the Ukes, playing goal in hockey for the HMCS Griffon, FW Jr. Hurricanes and Port Arthur Bearcats. His true passion was baseball. He could hit that ball a mile, and was famously known as “Big Stick.” His athletic prowess was recognized as Sportsman of the Year in 1957. Dad was also a scout for the Minnesota Twins and locally spent time instructing hitting to Little League players. Ed was a member of ANAF, Ortona Legion and several service clubs. He was especially proud to be on committee for the FW Redskins and Ronald McDonald House. In his mid 50s he took up golf, and excelled in driving and putting. Don’t bet against him! He was past member of Chapples Mens Club and lastly FW Golf and Country Club. Ed is survived by his wife of 66 years Tillie (Fonsolato), children Greg (Eileen), Susan (Jerry) Nelson, Lauren “Bunny” (Al) Schiiler (Surrey), brother Don (Sandi) (Grand Bend), numerous grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Saturday, September 8, 2012 when family and friends will gather for funeral Mass at 10:00 a.m. in St. Patrick’s Cathedral celebrated by Rev. Msgr. P.M. Stilla V.G. COX, Thomas Joseph (Tom) - formally of Burlington Ontario, passed peacefully at his home in Sebastian Florida on April 8th 2010, in his 85th year. Tom is survived by his beloved wife of 60 years, Dolores (nee Vaughan), and their children, Adele Peden (David) of Mississauga, Bryan Cox (Karen), Carol Ann Smith (James) all of Burlington, Donna Keher (Dr. Peter) of Bonn, Germany and Evonne Dolphin of Kelowna B.C. Loving grandfather of Rachel, Veronica, Jacob, Emily, Ashley, David, Andrew, Kevin, Kaylea and Kyle and great grandson, Colton. Tom will also be missed by his sister Margareta (Krevenky), brothers Gordon, and Barry, and was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Franklin. Tom joined the Navy during WWII, serving on Atlantic Patrol and Convoy Duty aboard HMCS Buckingham. He worked for Firestone Tire Co., and subsequently operated his own business in Burlington. He volunteered with the Burlington Fire Department. Tom retired to Sebastian, Florida, where he volunteered in Prison Ministry, served on the Church Parish Council, and helped to establish the St. Vincent de Paul Society in Wabasso. He was also active in the Knights of Columbus, a founding member of Sebastian and St. William Assembly. He was a 3-time Grand Knight, Financial Secretary and Faithful Navigator and Past Chairman K. of C. Charities, Diocese of Palm Beach Florida. Visitation at Smith's Funeral Home, 1167 Guelph Line (one stoplight north of QEW), Burlington (905-632-3333), on Monday from 3-5 and 7-9 pm. CROSSLEY, Arthur Francis (Art) (21 Apr 1925 - 10 Dec 2011) - beloved husband of Eileen of Calgary, passed away peacefully in his sleep at Foothills Medical Centre on Saturday, December 10, 2011 at the age of 86 years. He suffered complications from a stroke and is now at peace.

Art served proudly in the Second World War on HMCS ANTIGONISH. He retired from Canada Wire and Cable after thirty-eight years of service and enjoyed twenty years with his wife as a snowbird in Tucson, Arizona. Art loved spending time with his family and friends, helping others with building and renovations and playing golf.

Art will be sadly missed by his wife of sixty years, Eileen; daughter Linda (Johnnie); sons Don (Lisa) and Barry (Daphne); grandchildren, Gerrit, Daniel and Tess; sister Bea; and many nieces and nephews.

CURRIE, Darren Russell - Born 07 Jul 1969 in Ocean Falls, BC. Passed away suddenly in Denver, Colorado 14 Apr 2005. To mourn his passing are his father Gerald, mother Marlene and brother Brian Currie. Also his aunt Denise Dionne, David and Libby Dionne, Debbie Dionne and Dawn Kari-Lyn and Danielle Ladret. His Uncle and Aunt Mel & Jean Marcoux, Cathy, Jacob and Kayla Marcoux and Karen, David and Jasmin Long. His Uncle Duncan Currie, Aunt Margaret Boutilier and their families. Darren joined the Armed Forces in may, 1989. He spent a year and a half in training at Cornwallis, N.S. St. Jean and Valcartier, Que. and Borden, Ont. He then transferred to Halifax, where he spent about five years on the H.M.C.S. Fredericton and Charlottetown where he visited every port in Europe. He did a six month tour each in Bosnia and Croatia, and one year in Syria. Whenever he could get leave he visited every country he could. Then, he stayed put in Halifax until he was posted in Colorado Springs, Colorado, in march 2003 at the Norad Station. In December 2004 he was promoted to Master Seaman and was supposed to transfer to Victoria in July 2005.. He will be cremated, and his ashes will be placed beside his grandmother, Mrs. Ruth Marcoux. No service by request. A family service will be held at a later date.

DICKSON, Arthur Edgar (Art) (19 Sep 1924 - 31 Jan 2008) - beloved husband of Anne Dickson of Calgary passed away suddenly in his sleep on Thursday, January 31, 2008 at the age of 83 years. Art was born in Moose Jaw, SK where he spent the first thirty-three years of his life. To anyone who asked, he was very proud to say he was born and raised in Moose Jaw. On November 24, 1942 Art started his service with the Royal Canadian Navy aboard the H.M.C.S. Antigonish. After his three years of overseas service Art returned to Moose Jaw and began his career with, then, BA Oil/Gulf Oil. He moved from Moose Jaw to Toronto and finally to Calgary. During his time in Calgary Art enjoyed time spent at Triwood Community either coaching or volunteering. After retiring, Art enjoyed golf, slow pitch, senior speed skating and other activities with fellow seniors. Art is survived by Anne, his wife of fifty-two years; two sons, Jay of Vancouver and Brent (Helen) of Calgary; grandchildren, Brandin Mills of Libby, MT and Derek and Nicole Wasylenko of Calgary. He is also survived by his sister Jean Willison (Hal); brother-in-law Bob Marsh; niece Patricia Buckley and nephews Gary Willison (Barbara), David Marsh (Sheena), Doug Marsh (Carolyn), Paul Marsh (Virginia), Tracey Smith, Dale Smith, Rick Smith (Christine); and many great-nieces and nephews. DOUGLAS, David Richard (Rick), LCdr - Family and friends are invited to attend a celebration of life of the late Rick Douglas, who passed away Friday evening, September 9, 2011 following a courageous battle with cancer. Rick was born on April 8, 1949 in Peterborough, Ontario, where he completed his Elementary and High School education. He was then accepted into the Royal Military College, in Kingston, Ontario where he graduated with a BA (History) in 1972. During the annual Athletic Awards Dinner held that year at R.M.C. Rick received the rare honour of being presented with both the Tommy Smart Cup, awarded to the best all-round athlete and the Prince of Wales Cup awarded to the best all-round Cadet. It was the 2nd time in the past 20 years in which a R.M.C. Cadet had taken both trophies. Prior to commencing his military career, Rick competed in the 1972 Canadian National Swimming Championships, which were the trials for the Canadian Olympic Swimming Team and the National Water-polo Team. From 1972 until 1980 Rick served as a Maritime Surface Operations Officer at sea in the Canadian Navy, with his final posting at sea as Operations Officer of HMCS Assiniboine. In 1980, Rick was the first Naval Officer assigned to the Canadian Forces group of Intelligence Officers. This was fascinating work, which took him and Carolyn across Canada, as well as three year postings in Washington DC, and London, UK. Upon retirement in 1999, Rick and Carolyn moved to Amherst, Nova Scotia and built their retirement home. During the years Rick lived in Amherst, he was Treasurer and then President of the Amherst Curling Club. He served on the Boards of the Amherst Golf Club, and the National Association of Federal Retirees Cumberland Branch FSNA NS #78. Most important to him was his time on the Board of the Cumberland Health Authority (CHA). This led to his selection as the CHA representative on the Board of the Health Authority Nova Scotia (HANS). Rick saw these volunteer activities as his contribution to the community that was now his home. Rick was also a member of the Clan Douglas Society of North America and the Royal Military Club of Canada. In summer Rick enjoyed his weekly golf game with friends, and often helped at various tournaments, including the annual fundraiser for our hospital foundation. In winter you could find him at the curling rink. Rick enjoyed reading, gardening, and doing research on his family tree. He especially cherished his workshop at the shore, and spent many hours working on various projects. He enjoyed helping others, and meeting new people. Rick will be missed by the organizations where he contributed his talents and by the many friends he made here and in his travels. Rick is survived by Carolyn (Kelly), his wife of 35 years; his parents Marjorie and Donald Douglas, now residents of Amherst; brother Stephen (Mi-Sook), Toronto, Ontario; Brothers-in-law Robert (Janet) Arseneau and Harold Arseneau, Springhill, N.S. and Sisters-in-law, Loretta (Griff) Griffith, Kingston Ont. and Margaret (George) Beaton, Debert, N.S. as well as his loving Aunts Dorothy Hubbs, Aurora, Ontario; Betty Cyr, Montreal, Quebec; and Anne (Harold) Taylor, Burlington, Ontario; many nieces, nephews and cousins. DOYLE, Lloyd Emmerson (Charley), Lt. - 54, Lower Sackville, died October 11, 1992 in Sandy Cove Beach, Terence Bay. Born in hamilton, Ont., he was a son of the late Lloyd and Mary (Peters) Doyle. He retired after serving 35 years with the Royal Canadian navy, CFB Shearwater. He spent most of his career with the Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic and was head instructor of Shearwater Scuba Club. He was executive member of Naval Divers Association; instructor at Saint John Ambulance, former member of Kinsmen Club. He was a part-time employee with H&R Block. He is survived by his wife, the former Bonita Maria (Bonnie) Gay, daughter, Rhonda, Lower Sackville; son, Chris, Lower Sackville; stepson, James Lewis, London, Ont; brother, John, Stoney Creek, Ont; five sisters, Vera (Mrs. Les Haydon), Hamilton; Shirley (Mrs. Gary Arnott), Evelyn McMillan, Kathleen (Mrs. Jim Thoms), Debbie Dickinson, all of Stoney Creek; three grandchildren; a step-granddaughter. DROUIN, Marco Robert Joseph (May 10, 1972 - February 7, 2013) - It is with great sadness and broken hearts that we share the passing of our beloved husband, father, and friend after a brief but courageous battle with pancreatic cancer. Marco Robert Joseph Drouin passed away peacefully on Feb. 7, 2013 at home in the loving arms of his wife. Born in St. Georges de Beause in the province of Quebec. He was the son of the late Maurice and Ghislaine (Dumas) Drouin. Marco graduated from Polyvalente St. Georges and attended the University of Sherbrook where he studied Math, Phys-Ed and History. Marco always had a huge smile on his face and an infectious laugh which everyone loved and made everyone want to be around him. He loved sports and when he wasn’t playing baseball, golf, ball hockey, road hockey and ice hockey he was watching all those sports on tv, especially his Montreal Canadiens . Marco’s friends were family to him, he so cherished his friends and family in St. Georges, especially the five musketeer’s guys which he has been through thick and thin with since childhood. After moving to Nova Scotia 13 years ago, he met another great bunch of guys through the Navy and of course his Hockey buddies. Marco loved music and would sing along loudly and off key to his hard rock music in the car while bobbing his head and tapping his fingers. Marco was loved by all and everyone who was lucky to meet him, he impacted so many and was a great friend to all. Marco and Colleen always made sure to visit their homes away from home, visiting friends and family in Quebec, going to Chateau Frontenac where they got engaged and visiting the local poutinerie or Cape Breton to visit friends and family, going on the local pub crawl Marco loved being with his friends and family. Marco somehow was able to share his love for his family with whatever they needed and always being there for his wife, son and step-sons. Nick was Marco’s pride and joy and never missed an opportunity to spend time with Nick, be it playing road hockey or attending his hockey games. Marco was Nick’s biggest fan. Above all Marco’s love for wife and soul mate Colleen was felt and seen by all and radiated always. They were best friends and partners in crime who loved life and laughing together. Colleen nursed, loved and provided the best care for Marco until the end. They were so close and everyone who were around them had the privilege to witness true love. Their love and passion for one another radiated where there was one there was always the other. You could always catch them dancing and laughing together. Their love for each other was one that only a few would ever have the chance to feel. Their love was meant to be and they were meant for each other always. Besides his wife and children, Marco is survived by his brothers Richard and Maxime both of St. Georges de Beause. Besides his parents, Marco is predeceased by his father in law Pius and Lexie Graham. UCL LONDON) Died as a result of a road accident while on an exchange posting to the U.S. Navy in Bethesda, Maryland. Beloved husband of Laurie Ellen, dear and excessively proud father of Porter Heffernan (Eryn O'Neill) and Mary Fandrey, cherished son and brother of Clare and Lois Fandrey and Sheri Fandrey (Ian Smith), dear son-in-law of Porter and Lorraine Beeson, loved brother-in-law of the Harts (Victoria), Cole Beeson (Vancouver), the Beaulieus (St. Paul, AB), and close friend and golfing partner of Mary Wilson (our MaryBee). Duane was born in Langenburg, Saskatchewan in 1962. He excelled at school and enjoyed many sports but most especially swimming. He was given the opportunity by his wonderful parents to pursue music and had happy memories of traveling with them to Clare's barbershoppers' activities. He was so very proud to serve in the Canadian Navy as a Naval Architect and Engineering Officer. There were several deployments on various ships over his career. His time in HMCS CHARLOTTETOWN as Engineering Officer, and the crew's back to back deployments to the Persian Gulf in 2001 were a highlight for him. He was so happy to have the opportunity to be posted as an exchange officer to the U.S. Navy in Washington, DC. The research he was to embark upon was an exciting challenge. Anyone who loved Duane knows that words cannot express our loss. We also know, however, that he believed strongly that his life was a clear and certain path. The following lines of Coleridge's poem, "The Rime of the Ancient Mariner" come to mind when trying to use mere words to define Duane: He prayeth well, who loveth well Both man and bird and beast He prayeth best, who loveth best All things both great and small; For the dear GOD who loveth us, He made and loveth all. Duane was fine and we are blessed to have had him for our own. He was predeceased by both sets of grandparents, Philip and Evelyn Pearce and Robert and Georgina Fandrey; his aunt Shirley Beck, uncle George Pearce and cousins Lezlie Hays and Norman Pearce. FARRELL, Colin - 79, Dartmouth. It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Colin on December 12, 2009. Born in Port aux Basques, N.L., he was a son of the late William and Minnie (Skeard) Farrell. He was a proud member of the Royal Canadian Navy, beginning his career in 1949 as a diver with the H.M.C.S. Granby. He was a decorated veteran of the Korean Conflict. During his time in the navy, he was posted to various ships. He retired from his naval career in 1976 with 27 years of service. He continued working after his discharge on boats sailing up north with Dome Petroleum. He was a long-time member of Royal Canadian Legion Somme Branch 31. He was also a strong advocate for helping seniors and friends in need. He is survived by his wife, the former Lucille Desroches; daughters, Colleen (Allan), Michele, Judy (Yves), Joyce (Brian), Debbie (John); son, Colin Jr. (Lisa); 15 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren. He is also survived by brother, Calvin; sisters, Nina, Bernice and Ruby. He was predeceased by daughter, Joanne; brothers, Leonard, Lorne and sisters, Joyce and twin, Emma. He will also be sadly missed by his friends at the Legion. FENWICK, Charles Wayne (1942-2006) - Passed away peacefully after a short battle with cancer. Wayne is survived by his wife of 41 years Marjorie (Marge) (nee Maga); sons Todd (wife Tanya) and Terry (wife Christine) and four beautiful grandchildren Curtis, Carmen, Carter and Lola, his father George and brother Doug and predeceased by mother Fern. Wayne was born and raised in Moose Jaw, SK where he attended St. Louis College. He joined the RCN serving on the HMCS Sussexvale, Beacon Hill and St. Therese. After three years he left the Navy and moved back to the prairies holding a variety of jobs and married Marge. The family moved to Victoria in 1969 and Wayne started his apprenticeship plumbing, working with Rawlings Plumbing and Victoria General Hospital. He then started the family business BC Tubliners with son Terry. Wayne will be remembered for his sense of humor right until the end and his ability to remember every joke he ever heard. Through his humor he found many friends. He was a Mason, Shriner and was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. The family thanks the Victoria Hospice staff and Dr. Keith McQueen. FORTIER, Peter Charles Hitchon - It is with great sadness that the family of Captain (N) (Ret'd) Peter C. Fortier, CD announces his sudden passing at the Kingston General Hospital on Thursday, July 23, 2009. Born on August 14, 1931, he will be sorely missed by his wife Shirley Fortier (nee Lyons); son Philip Fortier (Mireille); daughter Sandra Schmidt (Lorne); and granddaughter Kristin Schmidt. He will be fondly remembered by nieces, nephews and other family members as well as many friends and colleagues. Peter was predeceased by father Wilfred, mother Jean Hitchon, brother Robert and sister Jane Kangrga. Peter enrolled in the Royal Military College of Canada in 1950 and embarked on a career in the Royal Canadian Navy that spanned more than 30 years of dedicated service. Notable assignments during his career included serving in HMCS Stadacona, HMCS Antigonish and HMCS Hochelaga and a three-year exchange posting with the United States Navy in Oakland, California. Following his return to Canada, Peter served as the Base Comptroller of CFB Shearwater in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Along the way, Peter completed graduate studies at the University of Western Ontario. He returned to the Royal Military College in 1972 for a five-year assignment as the College's Director of Administration. In 1977, Peter became the Base Commander of Canadian Forces Base Moncton. In 1981, he resigned from the military in order to accept the position of Registrar of the Royal Military College. It was a labour of love which he thoroughly enjoyed for the next fourteen years. Peter participated in many volunteer activities throughout his life including serving as a Governor for the Corps of Commissionaires Kingston Region and also with the Navy League of Canada. During his retirement years Peter was active in the Naval Officers' Association of Canada, the Pittsburgh Historical Society and the Royal Military College Club of Canada and was President of the Probus Club of Kingston. Peter enjoyed spending time with friends and family and caring for his gardens and cottage. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Diabetes Association or to the HMCS Sackville Canadian Naval Memorial Trust would be appreciated. The family extends their heartfelt gratitude to the doctors, nurses, staff and volunteers of the Intensive Care Unit of the Kingston General Hospital for their care and compassion and to the Rev. GILLESPIE, Edward Rex (Ted) 1922 - 2005 Ted passed away in his home in Invermere, BC on August 22, 2005. Ted was born in Calgary, Alberta on October 14, 1922 and attended Mount Royal Public School and graduated from Western Canada High School before joining the Navy (RCNVR) in 1941. During World War II he was deployed on convoy duty in the north Atlantic aboard the HMCS Loch Morlach. He received an honourable discharge from the Navy in 1945. He joined what was then Royalite Oil Company in their Turner Valley office and subsequently was employed by TransCanada Pipelines Ltd. in their field operations for some thirty years. He retired in 1985 and moved to Invermere, BC. He is survived by Hazel, his devoted wife of fifty-three years; his son and daughter-in-law, Roy and Rose Gillespie of Calgary, Alberta; and daughter and son-in-law, Maureen and Rick Hummel of Rose Prairie, BC. He is also survived by his brother and sister-in-law, F.K. Roy and Beulah Gillespie; and several nieces and nephews. At Ted's request there was no formal Service. HAMEL, Doug - 54, late of Mission, B.C. A great husband, father, son, brother, and friend went to shine in the stars and share his humour and laughter in Heaven on Nov. 21, 1999 after a brief and courageous battle with cancer. Doug will be sadly missed and always loved by his wife and best friend, Kathy, by his children Tammy (Larry) Tony (Laura) and Tiffany (Kody), grandsons Doug, Brady, Taylor, Jack and Sailor, his mother Florence, his mother-in-law Lucille, his sisters Judy, brothers-in-law Pat, Bill (Diane) and David (Jan) as well as many aunts, uncles cousins nieces and nephews. Doug attended grades 1 to 8 in the Groundbirch School House and his high school years were spent at South Peace Senior High in Dawson Creek. Doug joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1963 in the Communications Branch and was stationed in Inuvik, NWT at the Naval Radio Station. He served on two frigates, the HMCS Sussexvale and HMCS Beacon Hill. Doug's career continued on as a crane operator for the Dillingham Corporation, followed by highway trucking for various companies, including Arrow Transfer, Commercial Truck, Bulk Systems, Transwestern Express and Intermountain Transport, where he was the supervisor of the tanker division. In 1991, Doug and his wife Kathy purchased the pneumatic tanker division from Intermountain Transport, naming their company Hamel Bulk Carriers Ltd. Doug was well known for his wit, caring nature and his infectious giggle. He was passionate about his family and did the very best he could for them. He lived life to the fullest and was a loyal friend. Doug always made an effort to help his fellowman achieve their goal in life, even in small ways such as never leaving a fellow trucker stranded on the side of the road. Everyone knew that Doug's handshake was his bond and he always honoured his commitments. His character is well personified in a verse by Robert Louis Stevenson: "We are all travelers in the wilderness of this world, and the best that we can hope to find is an honest friend." HARDY, Reginald James Malcolm, Cdr - 74, Halifax. It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of "Reg" Hardy on Tuesday, January 11, 2011, in the Halifax Infirmary, QEII, surrounded by loving family. Born in Winnipeg on April 3, 1936, he was predeceased by his parents, Malcolm Alec Hardy and Cynthia (Brotheridge) Hardy. Reg joined the RCN in 1954 and was nautical to the core. Many lifelong friends were made from the graduating class of HMCS Venture in 1956. During his 35 year career with the Navy, he served with the International Commission of Control and Supervision after the Paris Agreement on Ending the War and Restoring Peace in Vietnam between January and July of 1973. He also served as Executive Officer on both HMCS Saguenay and HMCS Preserver and four years in Brussels and Belgium with the Canadian Military Representative to NATO. Dad was most content sailing and fulfilled a dream with five years spent cruising the Mediterranean with his wife and soul mate Delene Murray Hardy on their yacht 'Timshel'. Dad's tenacity and sense of right and wrong caused him to always do what he thought was right. Always a proud father and loving husband his truly original character will never be forgotten. Reg is survived by his loving wife, Delene; sons, Jeffrey, Ottawa, Ont.; Gregory, Halifax; Timothy, Halifax; grandchildren, Christopher, Kathleen, Kyle and Neil; and his sister, Virginia, Toronto, Ont. HENDERSON, Ralph G. - 90, of Sun City, AZ passed away on November 8, 2011. He is survived by his brother Clarence Henderson, daughter Ronda Evans, 2 grandchildren, 2 great grandchildren. He was born in Morse Place in the Province of Manitoba Canada and served in the Royal Canadian Navy during WWII aboard HMCS Granby and several other ships. He became a U.S. citizen in 1956 after moving to the U.S. with his first wife Lily (Dripps), who proceeded him in death in 1958. In 1956 he helped to start a semi-pro hockey league, The Apaches. He also officiated at the Phoenix Roadrunners hockey games for several years. In 1965 he married Rachel (Baugh) who preceded him in death in 2010. In their retirement they spent many summers at their cabin at Morman Lake with good friends. Ralph will be greatly missed by his family and friends. (The Arizona Republic 04 Dec 2011)

HESLOP, John (Jack) (1924 2007) On Friday, April 13th, Jack passed away at the age of 82. He will be greatly missed by his large and loving family; his devoted wife and fishing partner of 42 years, Wilda, and his adoring children and grandchildren. He was predeceased by his parents, baby Eric, daughter Madelaine (Hanney) and grandson John Dirks. He is survived by sons Michael, Patrick, David (Joanne), Kelly (Wilma) and daughter Erica (Tom) Dirks, and step-children Carol (Eric) Jensen and Allan Gillmann. He leaves behind 13 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who will miss his whisker rubs. Sister's Harriet Webb and Audrey (Hugh) Purdie and brother Alan (Shirley) will miss their big brother. During World War II Jack served in the navy aboard the HMCS Loch Alvie. It was then that the prairie boy developed a life long love of the sea. His love of the ocean drew him and his family to Vancouver Island. They lived in Victoria and Nanaimo before settling in Parksville for many years. Jack worked for Queale Electronics for 23 years until his retirement. His enjoyment of people made him a natural for volunteer work. He volunteered with both the Coast Guard and COPS. He also enjoyed taking people charter fishing. Everyone who met him will miss his great sense of humour and generous nature. Jack was independent and determined. These qualities were put to the test when he suffered a stroke. With the love and encouragement of his family and the support of caregivers he overcame many obstacles to fill his remaining years with special memories. During his last days he was surrounded by his loving family. The family wishes to extend heartfelt thanks to Jack's many caregivers who provided support and laughter. The staff at the Nanaimo Palliative Care Unit were incredibly sensitive and compassionate. Services will be held at Yates Funeral Service in Parksville, 1000 Allsbrook Road on Wednesday, April 18th at 11:00. Internment to follow. HOLBROW, William Leonard Daniel (Dan) - Formerly of Winnipeg, Dan passed away as a result of an accident in Honduras, May 10, 2006. He is survived by his children, Tim (Jennifer), Andrew (Jody) Manness, Allison (Ryan) Smith, Malcolm (Melissa), Christopher (Katharine), their mother Jessica Holbrow, grandchildren, Kathleen, Elizabeth, Joshua, Duncan, Benjamin, Brody, Liam and Carter; his wife Lynn Haworth-Holbrow, her family Doug, Ken (Amy), Leanne, grandchildren, Kayla, Jenna, Ben and Sam; sister Elaine (Rick) McLellan, brothers, Terry (Pat) of Winnipeg, Colin (Leslie) of Toronto, nieces, nephews and cousins; his extended family, Reyna, Margaret and Catherine in Honduras. He was predeceased by his parents, Kay and Wilf Holbrow and infant daughter Barbara. Dan was born in Winnipeg July 20, 1946. As a young boy he was Head Chorister at All Saints Anglican Church. After High School he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as a Leading Seaman on the HMCS Margaree and in the Submarine service. He had a keen interest in plants and flowers that led him to start his own business Hobie's Hothouses. He also had many other business interests in Winnipeg and Toronto and at one time was the Executive Director of Fish Futures. His interest in fish management led to his work in Belize and later relocation in Honduras. Dan was laid to rest in Puerto Cortes, Honduras May 18. A memorial service will be held at All Saints Anglican Church, Broadway and Osborne on June 2, at 1:30 p.m. A reception to follow. HUGHES, Douglas Frederick, 73, Lower Sackville, pass ed away peacefully January 9, 2011, at the Colchester Regional Hospital, Truro, with his family by his side. Born November 26, 1937 in Bowmanville ON, he was the son of the late Harry and Josephine Hughes. Doug was a member of the Royal Canadian Navy from 1954 until he retired in 1991. He joined as an Armourer Mate and later re-mustered to Clearance Diver. As a diver he served on HMCS Granby, the Experimental Diving Unit (DCIEM) CFB Toronto, HMCS Cormorant and the Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic (FDU(A)) from where he retired as a Chief Petty Officer 1st class. Doug was an active member and past president of the Canadian Naval Divers Association. Along with his parents, Doug was predeceased by his loving wife Violet Ann and his sister-in- law Elaine Hughes Surviving are: Brothers Dennis (Jean) Oshawa, ON, Bryan, Bowmanville, ON, Brent (Sandy), Birmingham, Alabama, John (Louise), Ponty Pool, ON; Sisters: Pauleen (Brian), Oshawa, ON and Eileen, Oshawa, ON; Sons: Doug (Michelle), Bedford; Chris (Lindsay), Georgetown, ON; Brian (Anne), Lower Sackville. IRVINE, Thomas Arthur, CD, LCdr, RCN - Passed away in Ottawa October 27, 2008. He is survived by his wife Rosemary (nee Grier); children Geoffrey (Kim Dorrington) and Victoria (Gene Rheaume); and grandchildren Amanda, Jenessa, Thomas and Benjamin. Born in Edinburgh, Scotland in 1924, he attended Watson's College from whence he joined The Thames Nautical Training College in 1939 as a cadet in HMS Worcester. Following graduation in 1941 he was appointed Midshipman RNR. Serving 1942-44, in the cruisers: HMS Newcastle (Indian Ocean) and HMS Mauritius (Mediterranean). Appointed Sub Lieutenant RNR he joined the corvette HMS Lancaster Castle (Russian Convoy Escort) 1944-45. Appointed Lieutenant RNR he joined the destroyer HMS Zest (NW Europe) 1945-46. Following WWII he joined the RN Hydrographic Service qualifying as a Hydrographic Surveyor. Upon release from Active Service with the Royal Navy, he obtained a Certificate of Competency as Master of a Foreign Going Steamship following which he served as 2nd Mate in the British Merchant Navy. In 1950, he came to Canada joining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1952. As Hydrographer, he joined HMCS Labrador in 1954 for her epic maiden voyage circumnavigating North America by way of the Northwest Passage. He subsequently wrote the book "The Ice Was All Between" which described this event. The following season, 1955, Labrador conducted operations in the Eastern Arctic. Further sea service in the frigates: HMCS Buckingham as Executive Officer 1956-58 and HMCS Stettler in Command 1965-67, completed his naval service afloat. Significantly, ashore, he served as the Naval Hydrographer at Naval Headquarters, Ottawa. Tom retired from the navy in 1970. After his naval career, he pursued an active consulting practice as an Arctic specialist, served some 10 years in Canadian Coast Guard Arctic Region and made annual voyages as Ice Master assisting cruise ships throughout the Northwest Passage well into his seventies. Tom was a member of: Naval Officers' Association of Canada; Canadian Nautical Research Society; Arctic Circle of Ottawa; Old Worcesters and Old Watsonians. JOHNSON, George, Captain (N) - was born 18th of November 1920 and then educated in Winnipeg, Manitoba, initially attending Daniel McIntyre Collegiate and United College. On 20 June, 1941, a young George Johnson joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve at the Winnipeg Division Ellice Avenue Barracks. He was posted to H.M.C.S. ROYAL ROADS, in Esquimalt, BC, for initial officer training, and graduated in December 1941, a member of only the second class to graduate from Royal Roads. As an Acting Sub-lieutenant he took up his first assignment, onboard HMCS MEDICINE HAT, a minesweeper on escort duty in the North Atlantic and western approaches. In May 1942 he was promoted to lieutenant and in November 1943 he was posted ashore, to HMCS KINGS (Kings College, Halifax, N.S.), where he completed an extensive three month navigation course. He was then assigned as Navigation Officer to the corvette HMCS KITCHENER. After completing work-ups off Bermuda, the KITCHENER proceeded to Great Britain, where Lieutenant Johnson had been posted. In May of 1944 he joined HMCS LOCH ACHANALT, a new frigate, and he served her as Navigation Officer until she was paid off, in June 1945. Lieutenant Johnson was honourably discharged in October 1945. After the war, George returned to school to complete his education and to set up a family medical practice in the community of Gimli, Manitoba. Later, he entered public life as a member of the Manitoba Legislature. On 12 December 1986, he was installed as Manitoba's twentieth Lieutenant Governor, the first Manitoban of Icelandic origin to serve in the position. He was also made an Officer of the Order of Canada. In 1988, Captain Johnson was appointed as the Honorary Captain of CHIPPAWA. He proudly served in this capacity until he passed away, at his cottage in Gimli, on the 8th of July 1995.

JUNKIN, Bruce Frederick - A light rain was falling on a cool morning in Mesa, Arizona. It is the kind of morning the locals like as it brings a fresh scent to the air and washes the desert clean as it encourages new growth for the coming Spring. It was on this morning of February 1, 2011, just after his 91st birthday, that Bruce Frederick Junkin passed into God's bosom. Bruce was born into a farming family on the LaSalle River, Sanford, Manitoba, the youngest of five siblings. He attended the University of Manitoba acquiring a B.Sc. in Electrical Engineering. Bruce served his country as a Sub Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Navy on HMCS Loch Achinault sailing out of Londonderry, Ireland, during The Second World War. After returning to civilian life Bruce worked a year with Bell Telephone in Montreal. It was in Montreal that he met and married his wife Noreen. He then joined the I.W. Killam group of companies and embarked on a South American adventure looking after the Killam power interests in Bolivia. Bruce left Bolivia in 1959 as General Manager to return to head office in Montreal where he took on the presidency of a power group ministering to utility interests in Bolivia, El Salvador, Barbados and Venezuela. He stayed with the company through its various incarnations until his retirement in 1983. During this latter period he worked first from Montreal, then New York and finally Cincinnati. He was a past master of Anglo-Bolivian Lodge, AF AM, LaPaz, Bolivia and a member of Acacia Lodge, Bridgewater, N.S. He spent the last twenty eight years with Noreen splitting their time between Pleasantville, N.S. and Mesa, Arizona. KENNA, Leonard James - Peacefully at the Joseph Brant Memorial Hospital in Burlington, Ontario on Saturday, December 20, 2008, in his 83rd year. Born in Monarch, Alberta. Devoted husband to Sheila "Chips" for 58 years. Loving father of Christy and her husband Dennis, Anne and her husband Paul, and Ken and his wife Evelyn. He will be greatly missed by his grandchildren Lisa, Cameron, C.J. and Haley. Len is survived by his dear sisters Aileen, Wynn (Aidan) and Jean (Chris) and brother Frank (Anna) all of B.C. Educated at Stoughton; he joined the Royal Canadian Navy Volunteer Reserve at the young age of 17. After naval instruction; he was assigned to the H.M.C.S. Loch Alvie; a loch-class frigate that provided escort duty to supply ships. Following the war; Cecil turned his hand to farming which would become his life's work. Together; Cecil and Beth cultivated a longterm relationship with the cattle industry that extended to the development of many good friendships. The name of 'Loch Alvie' Herefords became synonymous with purebred; registered Horned Herefords; an annual production sale that spanned 18 years; and the sale of breeding stock across the Prairie Provinces and into the United States. Cecil retired from active farming in the late 1990's but he never tired of helping family members with their projects or lost interest in his renter's care of the land as evidenced by his daily trips to the beloved farm. First and foremost a family man; Cecil was a devoted father; husband; grandfather; and great-grandfather. He cheered us on in our ventures; applauded our successes; and was there for us whenever we were in need. His kindness; honesty; and determination were an inspiration and we will carry him in our hearts forever. KOSONIC, Edward Raymond - Born September 6, 1924 La Vallee, ON. Passed away peacefully Tuesday, January 11, 2011 at the age of 86. Eddie leaves behind his three children Robert (Julie), Christine, and David (Dorothy), sister Helen, grandchildren Jocelyn and Ian, and great-granddaughter Hazel. Predeceased by his loving wife of 62 years, Winnifred (nee McConkey), his parents Nikolaus and Antoinette and by seven of his siblings. Eddie proudly served in the Royal Canadian Navy on the HMCS Buckingham as a Radar Specialist, then built a successful business as a TV Repairman at Belmont Electronics. Eddie will be dearly missed by all who knew him. LAKE, Robert Martin (Bob) - (1940-2012) 72 of Lower Sackville, passed away August 15, 2012 in the QE II HSC , VG Site Palliative Care. Born in London, Ontario, he was the son of the late Martin and Nell (Kwasek) Lake. Bob served for 32 years in the RCN as a Weapons Technician and then worked at the Sackville Sports Stadium in pool maintenance. Known as “Mr. Fix-it”, he enjoyed fishing, hunting, oil painting and watching his grandsons play hockey. Bob is survived by his wife of 52 years, Judith (McGinnis), daughter Theresa Duffy, Lower Sackville; sons Robert “Bob” Lake, BC, George Lake, Winnipeg; brother Gary (Sharon) Lake, London On; grandchildren Brandon Duffy, Ben Duffy, Samantha Lake and Sabrina Lake. LANDVERSITCH, Blake - aged 82 years, passed away at the Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre on Monday, April 27, 2009. Blake was born in Hymers on October 1, 1926 to Robert and Mary Landversitch. During his youth, he worked at various jobs in the Round Lake Sawmill. He later enlisted in the navy during World War II serving on the HMCS Buckingham. Blake started active service on July 22, 1943 and received an honorable discharge on December 11, 1945, and was always very proud to serve his country. After the war, he worked for a few years for Gibson Motors. In the 1950's he purchased and ran his own business, Port Service, and later in early 1960 to 1974 he purchased and ran Blake's Texaco. He later worked for Abitibi as a millwright until his retirement. In the mid 1980's he returned to Hymers where he lived in the family home. His main interests were his family, farming of flowers, trees and vegetables, hunting and fishing and he enjoyed the winters spent in Mesa, Arizona. He coached a youth baseball team, served on the board for the Thunder Bay District Health Unit and was a Councilor for the Township of Gillies. Blake was a member of the Hymers Agricultural Society, life member of the Moose Lodge and long-time member of the Kakabeka Legion. Blake is survived by his wife Dorothy; daughters Linda Kearns (Dwight) and Elizabeth Dixon (Albert); sons Alan (Susan) and Gerald; grandchildren Ginger, Lacey, Raine, Alan Blake, Christopher (Lindsay), Ronald (Crystal), Robert (Rochelle) and Thomas (Jessica); great grandchildren Spencer, Gabriel, Lizabeth and Sara; sister May Winters (the late Garf) and their children Dwight (Marie), Roger (Nita) and Shirley Veley (Allen) and sister Jean Couch (Gordon); two stepsons Frank and Michael Kopesky. LAWRENSON, Craig Ernest, PO2 (05 Jan 1972 - 18 Dec 2004) - is now in the loving arms of his dad Jim (1996), after a brave fight with cancer. He was the devoted father of Shannelle and Nicholas and their mother Francine. Precious son of Norma Lawrenson (late Jim) (1996), caring brother of Jim (Angie), Mark (Michelle), Jason (Taylor) and loving uncle to Jacob and Jessica. Craig is also survived by his three special aunts and five uncles as well as several cousins. He was like a brother to Tracy, Todd and Julie (cousins) for they were brought up together. For the past 14 years Craig has dedicated his life to the Canadian Navy. His last assignment being PO2 Electronic Warfare Supervisor on board the HMCS Charlottetown. Craig's whole family were very proud of his accomplishments, especially his dad and brothers. Craig recently left behind some wonderful and caring friends and co-workers in Halifax to transfer to Ottawa to enable him to spend more time with his children for they were always his priority in life. LAWSON, John Sidney (Jake) (1923 - 2003) - beloved husband of the late Peggy Lawson of Calgary, passed away at the Bow View Manor on Friday, January 3, 2003 at the age of 79 years. Jake was born on February 3, 1923 in Medicine Hat, AB. He was educated in Okotoks, later joining the Navy and serving in World War II as a Morse Code Operator aboard the HMCS Granby. Upon his return to Alberta following the war, Jake pursued a career in the oilfield supply sector, where he eventually became President of Wilson Oilfield Supply. In 1968 he sold Wilson and changed career paths by founding Marjohn Minerals Ltd. and began exploring for oil. Jake was involved in other business interests and remained Chairman of Marjohn Minerals up until the time of his death. He was a retired Director of Canada Northwest Land and Upton Resources Inc. He was a founding member of the Calgary Canucks Junior A Hockey Team, was a cattle rancher in Millarville for a period of time, and was an avid hunter and sports fisherman. Jake worked hard, played hard, and enhanced the lives of those around him. Jake is survived by four sons, Frank of Qualicum Beach, BC, Mike of Maui, HI, Pat of Denver, CO, and Tony of Calgary, AB; and daughters-in-law, Monique, Una, Carol, Chris, and Karen; five grandchildren, Marni and her husband Steve, Mike, Nikki, Lance, and Meggie; and a great-granddaughter Ava. He is also survived by his sister Audrey Hoiland. Jake was predeceased by his loving wife Peggy Lawson in 1987 and a son John Edward Lawson in 1960. At Jake's request, a private Family Service was held and a Celebration of Jake's Life will be held at a later date. No flowers by request. LEWIS, Keith Dunham, CD, CDR, RCN - Born in Ottawa, Nov 14, 1926 died peacefully April 19, 2011 at the QEII in Halifax after a very brief illness. Survived by his wife Barbie (Colwell) Lewis, daughters Dr. Joanna Zed (Robert) and Penny Taylor (Colin), Brother John Lewis (Virginia). He was pre-deceased by his first wife, Diana Wynward (Evans) Lewis in 1987. Grampy will be sorely missed by his energetic grandsons Graham and Evan Taylor, William, Geoffrey and Gregor Zed. His loyal Barron and his buddies in the barn and the field will miss their loyal companion. Keith enjoyed a rewarding career of service in the Royal Canadian Navy. He attended Royal Rhodes Military College, Victoria, BC and Staff Military College, Toronto. His final command was H.M.C.S. Skeena. Upon retirement from the Navy, Keith became GM of the first Halifax hosted Canada Summer Games in 1969. Following this he became General Manager - Halifax Forum and Director of Operations, World Trade Centre Halifax. He was a founding member of Ski Wentworth and member of the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron. He was a supporter of Nova Scotia Horse Trials at Red Bank Farm for over 20 years. He was an avid fisherman, gardener, sailor, skier and hunter (although the family recalls few fruit from the latter efforts). He had a great love of the outdoors and his quiet and thoughtful perspective made people smile. His legacy lives on in his children and grandchildren's love of outdoor pursuits and all things adventurous. He was happiest at his havens in Burnt Lake and Wentworth. The family will receive friends and relatives for a celebration of Keith's life, Saturday , April 23, 2011, at the home of Robert and Joanna Zed, 6151 Oakland Road, Halifax, from 3 to 6 pm.

LUCK, Thomas Campbell, CD, Cdr, RCNR - age 83 passed away Tuesday, July 13, 2004 at Thunder Bay Regional Health Sciences Centre. Born in Fort William, Ontario November 14, 1920, he was the second child of John Alfred and May Marnoni Luck. He was educated at Isabella School and Fort William Collegiate Institute. While still attending high school, he was an usher at the Orpheum Theatre. After graduation, he accepted a position with the Canadian Bank of Commerce Fort William Branch and in 1940 on the office staff at Abitibi Power and Paper Company's Fort William Division. He married Gwendolyn Violet Chenier in Trinity United Church, Port Arthur on June 30, 1941. Gwen and Tom had three children : Marilyn Gail McCuaig (Tom), Thunder Bay; Thomas Alexander (Susan), Oakville; and Robin Harvey (Robin), Collierville, Tennessee. Tom joined the RCNVR as an Ordinary Seaman in September, 1942 and served at HMCS Griffon as an instructor until he left for HMCS Cornwallis in September 1943. He completed the Sub-Lieutenant's Course at King's College in Halifax in September 1944 and was appointed to the frigate HMCS Buckingham as Signals Officer. Tom was demobilized with the rank of Lieutenant in September 1945 and returned to his employment with Abitibi. Lieutenant Luck joined the Naval Reserve at HMCS Griffon in May 1946 and served as Training Officer and then Executive Officer with the rank of Lieutenant-Commander. In December 1956 Tom was appointed Commanding Officer of HMCS Griffon and promoted to Commander. He was also appointed Honourary Aide-de-camp to Governor General George P. Vanier until September 1960 when he retired from the Naval Reserve. Tom was very interested in sports and in earlier years took an active part in softball, football and fishing. During later years he sailed, bowled, curled and golfed. He served as Secretary to the Fort William Beavers Senior Hockey Club from 1950 to 1955. Tom was extremely dedicated to any organization he served as the many individuals who worked with him would confirm. Over the years he served as: Organizer, Officer and President of Abitibi Recreation Association Fort William Division; Director, Officer and Chairman CPPA Technical Section Midwest Branch; In charge of military participation during the July 1959 visit of Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip; Member of Neebing River Valley Conservation Society; Director and Finance Chairman - Fort William Country Club; Serving Brother - Order of St. John; Chairman of Finance Committee - St. John Ambulance; Director and Vice-Chairman - McKellar Hospital Board of Governors; Member Advisory Finance Committee - Anglican Diocese of Algoma; Member Human Resources Committee -Anglican Diocese of Algoma; Director, Officer and President of - Naval Officers Association of Canada, Lakehead Branch and Thunder Bay Country Club and Port Arthur Gyro Club; Secretary-Treasurer , Lieutenant-Governor and Governor - Gyro International District 7; Director, Officer and President - Thunder Bay Chamber of Commerce; Officer and President Northwestern Ontario Associated Chambers of Commerce; Director - Ontario Chamber of Commerce; Member of Parish Council - St. Thomas Anglican Church. Tom transferred to Provincial Mill in 1963 and in 1982 moved to new offices at Thunder Bay Division as Manager of Centralized Services. He was a member of both Lakehead Woodlands and Thunder Bay Division Quarter Century Clubs. After 45 years of service, Tom retired from Abitibi in 1985. Winters were then spent in Tucson, Arizona and Jacksonville, Florida. Tom and Gwen moved to Burlington, Ontario in 1993 and back to Thunder Bay in 2002. Predeceased by his mother in 1940, his father in 1955, brothers: Ernest in 1981, Jack in 1993, Don in 1998 and Bob in 2002 and a sister, Noni in 1996, he is survived by his loving and devoted wife Gwendolyn, his children, Marilyn, Tom and Robin, grandchildren: Jan Luck, Cam McCuaig (Val), Katie Ostrom (Brian), Kristin Luck (Matt), Trevor Luck, Ryan Luck and Tyler Luck; great-grandchild Gabrielle McCuaig, and brother-in-law Lorne Chenier (Val). Sisters-in-law, nieces, nephews and cousins also survive. Cremation has already taken place and a memorial service for Commander Thomas C. MARK, Arnold Victor (Tom) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dear husband, father, grandfather, uncle and friend Tom (A.V.) Mark on Tuesday, October 31, 2006, at the age of 82 years. Left to cherish his memory is his wife of 56 years of marriage Audrey; children and grandchildren, Dawn (Larry, Christa, Tom) DeBlaere, Dean (Jane, Danny, Dale) Mark, Dana (Ernie, Christian) Hansch, D. Susie (Jerome, Alaina) Posthumus, David (Sherrie, Marissa, Matthew, Mallory) Mark, Dianna Mark (Lochlann Meston), numerous nieces and nephews, and his faithful four-legged friend Sammy. Tom was predeceased by his father John Mark in 1927, his mother Hattie Mark Mundy in 1992, and his brothers Earl and George. Born in Sutherland, SK on April 19, 1924, the family moved to Moose Jaw in 1927 where he attended Central High School and enjoyed playing all sorts of sports, especially Baseball and Hockey. He joined C.P. Rail in 1941 as a machinist apprentice, until 1943 when he enlisted in the R.C.N.V.R. Tom served on several ships in the Royal Navy until 1944, when he transferred to the HMCS Loch Achanalt where he served until the end of the war. When Tom returned to C.P. Rail he held various positions in Moose Jaw, Wynyard, Estevan, Winnipeg, Thunder Bay and Montreal. Tom retired as Director of Locomotive Maintenance in 1984 with 44 years of service. He then spent seven years in Bangladesh with the Canadian International Development Association improving their railway, after which he returned to Winnipeg to be with his family. Tom's funeral service will be held on Monday, November 6 at 2:00 p.m. in the Meadowood United Church, 1111 Dakota St. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Tom's memory to the Canadian Diabetes Association. MATTHEWS, Bill (Darby), Rev (03 Oct 1936 - 30 Jun 2006) - Bill died peacefully, succumbing despite the best efforts and exemplary care of the QEII Cardiovascular Department and ICU. He is survived by his wife, Pamela (Moors); his children, Bill (wife Donna), Valerie (husband Danny), and Philip (wife Stefani); his brother, Jim Matthews, Ottawa, and sister, Joan Machnicky, Edmonton."Buddy" will be revered in stories and greatly missed by his treasured eight grandchildren, Samantha and Carter Matthews, Kevin, David and Simon Walker, Kiah, Isaac and Jacob Matthews. Bill was predeceased by his parents, William and Edna, and his brother, Ronald. Born and raised in Ottawa, Bill entered the RCN in August 1955, and proudly qualified as Clearance Diver immediately after Basic Training. For 22 years, he served as a member of Fleet Diving Unit Atlantic (HMCS Granby) followed by four years as the Diving Training Chief, and then Unit Chief of the Fleet Diving Unit Pacific. This was a time of great adventure for Bill. Even more importantly, his colleagues became his fast friends, whose faithfulness endured throughout his remaining years, no matter his circumstances. After retiring from the forces in 1980, Bill studied at Dalhousie University and the Atlantic School of Theology and was called to ordained ministry in the United Church of Canada in 1986. He served and was richly blessed by ministry to many people in many places including St. James UCC (Goodwood), Gynecology/Oncology Department (VG Site, QEII), the Kennetcook-Gore Pastoral Charge, Epworth UCC and Newsom UCC (Glace Bay). In 2001, a stroke presented Bill with physical challenges that tested the perseverance that was a hallmark of his character. He met those challenges with a grace and dignity that inspired and comforted those who traveled alongside him. Visitation today from 7-9 p.m. and Tuesday, July 4, 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. in A.L. MITTON, Harold E. - (1925-2011_ 86, of People's Park Tower and formerly of Glenwood Drive, Moncton, passed away peacefully at The Moncton Hospital on Thursday September 29, 2011. Born in Moncton, he was the son of the late Percy and Bessie (Allen) Mitton. Harold was a retired Manufacturers Agent and attended St. George's Anglican Church. He was a Life Member of the Canadian Professional Sales Association, member of the Beaver Curling Club, the Moncton City Club and the Moncton Golf & Country Club. Harold was a Veteran of WWII, having served aboard HMS Postillion and HMCS Annan, was a member of Moncton Legion Branch # 6 and enjoyed playing "45's" every Wednesday night with "the boys". Harold will be sadly missed by his wife of 63 years, Frances (Parker) Mitton; sons, Gary F. Mitton of Montreal, PQ and Brian Mitton (Anne) of Dartmouth, NS; grandchildren, Nancy, Caroline and Emma; brother, Thorold of Ottawa, ON and several nieces and nephews. Born on November 19, 1952 in Carbonear, N.L., he was a son of Harry Frederick Moore and Verna Florence (Pike) Moore. MOORE, Kerry Robert (18 May 1928 - 24 May 2006)  - was born May 18, 1928 at the Scottish Nursing Home, Calgary, Alberta. Predeceased by his parents Stuart A. Moore and Dora (Lauder) Moore. Survived by his wife Diane (Connochie) Moore; two sons, James S. Moore (Karen), two granddaughters, Julie and Laurie, son Kerry (Bob) Moore Jr.; a brother Jim (Sheila) Surrey, BC, brother Owen, Victoria; many nieces and nephews. Kerry obtained his education at Sunalta and Western Canada High School. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy and after completing basic training at HMCS Cornwallis was assigned to HMCS Saguenay as a Ships/Writer, did his tour, then worked the next few years with Imperial Oil, Norman Wells and then joined the City of Calgary, Traffic Engineering Department, where he was employed for thirty-one years. Kerry was a great political buff and worked on many candidates' campaigns, and longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion 286. At the request of Kerry, no Funeral Service will be held. Cremation. MURDOCK, John Raymond - husband of Patricia (McEachern) Murdock, of Dartmouth, N.S., passed away on arrival at the Dartmouth General Hospital, on Sunday, February 10, 2013, at the age of 44. Born in Chatham, on September 13, 1968, he was the son of Raymond and the late Cheryl (Ryan) Murdock. He was a 17 year retired member of the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy) retiring with the rank of Master Seaman. He is survived by his wife, the former Patricia McEachern; one daughter, Kathrynne, at home; three sons, Daniel (Melanie), Macklin and Cameron, all of Dartmouth; two sisters, Linda Murdock and Kimberly Robichaud (Paul), all of Miramichi; two brothers, Randy & Jason Murdock, both of Miramichi; as well as several nieces and nephews. He was predecedeased by his mother, Cheryl; three infant sisters. Members of Branch # 3, Royal Canadian Legion held a Veterans' Service at the funeral home on Friday evening. Visiting was at Adams Funeral Home, 140 King St., on Friday. The funeral service was held from Adams Funeral Home Chapel, on Saturday, February 16, 2013, at 11 am, conducted by Rev. Alexander Sutherland. The scriptures were read by Colleen Forbes and the eulogy was offered by Adam Fuller. A special musical selection was presented by daughter, Katherynne Murdock. The honorary pallbearers were Daniel, Macklin and Adam. Interment will be in the Black River Community Cemetery, later in the spring. A reception with the family was held at the Loggieville Community Center following the service. As well, a memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 2, 2012, from 1-4 pm, at the Centennial Legion, Branch 160, 703 Main St., Dartmouth, N.S. MacADAMS, Betty Lou (Flo), CD, Sgt - 64, of Port Joli, Queens County, passed away Sunday, January 21, 2007, in the Queens General Hospital, Liverpool, with her family by her side. Born in Liverpool, she was a daughter of Ida (Davis) MacAdams of Port Joli and the late Clyde MacAdams. Betty spent 31 years in the Royal Canadian Air Force, retiring as a Sergeant from C.F.B. Shelburne. She was one of the first women selected to serve on the Naval Ships, having served on the H.M.C.S. Cormorant, Overseas, C.F.B. Alert and many other postings. Betty loved sports, curling, darts, playing bingo and anything to do with the outdoors. She was a member of the West Queens Dart League and the Royal Canadian Legion #38, Liverpool. She loved her Church and being involved in many community activities. She is survived by sisters Rita (Maurice) Snair, of Queensland, Beverly (David) Simpson, of Trenton, Ont.; brothers John (Brenda) MacAdams, of Port Joli; Robert (Christine) MacAdams, of Marathon, Ontario, Clyde Gordon (Wendy) MacAdams, of Port Joli; sisters in law Christine Knox, of Port Joli, Frances MacAdams, of Sudbury, Ontario; uncle Roy Davis, of Shelburne; special friend Eileen “Spud” Canetelo, of Port Joli and many nieces and nephews whom were all very special to her. MacLEOD, Douglas H. - 73. Born in Hartsville, P.E.I., died June 29, 2002, in Surrey, B.C. He served in the R.C.A.F. for 27 years mainly as a navigator based in Greenwood. He also spent two years on H.M.C.S. Saguenay. After retirement in 1976, he was in charge of A.R. Air Cadet Glider Program for four years. He moved to British Columbia in 1980 where he worked as a Flight Instructor. He was the owner and operator of MacLeod Aviation since 1989 at Boundary Bay. He was predeceased by his parents, Allan and Flora May; brothers, John, Alexander, Oliver and Ira. McKINNON, Donald T. - Peacefully, on Sunday, January 13, 2013 Donald Taylor McKinnon passed away at the Riverview Health Centre, just 11 days before his 87th birthday. He was born in Winnipeg on January 24, 1926 to Donald Ernest McKinnon and Mary Vinian Taylor. Don leaves behind his daughter Cathy (Lorne Colpitts) and their children Brad and Pam; his sons Gordon (Lori Spivak) and their children Sarah, Andrew and Daniel; and Bruce (Janina) and their children Geoffrey and Jennifer. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret McKinnon (nee Robinson) in 2005, his younger brother Arthur McKinnon in 1995 and his special friend Myrna McGregor in 2011. Don grew up on Clifton Street, attending Isaac Brock School and then Daniel McIntyre Collegiate. He was working at the Searle Grain Company when he was drafted into the navy in September 1944. He trained at HMCS Chippewa in Winnipeg and later in Cornwallis, Nova Scotia. During the war, Don served on the HMCS Helena in Halifax Harbour and then was posted to the frigate HMCS Beacon Hill. Donald was active in the reserves and one of the highlights of his life was being sent to represent the Winnipeg Reserves at the coronation of Queen Elizabeth in 1953. As a returning veteran, Don attended the University of Manitoba obtaining a science degree and then later his Bachelor and Masters of Education. He began his teaching career in the Winnipeg School Division at Wellington, Andrew Mynarski and Luxton schools before accepting a position as a vice principal in the St. James School Division. He pursued an administrative career in many schools in the division, including Birchwood, Woodhaven, Britannia, Assiniboine, Lincoln and Sansome, eventually retiring from the school where he had begun his St. James career - Linwood. One of the proudest accomplishments of his career was serving as president of the Manitoba Teachers' Society in 1966 / 1967. Another highlight was his participation in Project Overseas in 1963, travelling to Liberia to provide professional development for the teachers of that country. Don met his future wife, Margaret Robinson, in 1946 when she was asked to be a substitute bridge player in one of his regular bridge games. They were married in 1948 and soon moved into a house in St. James that Marg's parents had purchased. Don continued to live there until this November. Over their more than 50 years of marriage, Don and Marg shared many memorable experiences and travelled extensively. In particular, they loved cruising the waterways of the world. They were active members of the Unitarian Church of Winnipeg for more than half a century. Don took a leading role in his church both at the congregational level and at the district level, where he served as a trustee from 1995 to 2003. Family and friends remember many happy times at the McKinnon cottage at Betula Lake. The grandchildren have fond memories of picking blueberries, playing cards, hiking, floating off the dock and laughing. Later in life, Don developed a close relationship with Myrna McGregor with whom he travelled and shared his life. Don was passionate about his model railroad and spent thousands of hours of his adult life working on the huge layout that took over most of the basement of his home, becoming quite indignant when family or friends referred to it as his "train set". So, of course, his family said that all the time. He spent a great deal of time with a close group of his friends that he met through the Winnipeg Model Railroad Club. He also loved stamp collecting, gardening, reading and needlepoint. He was a life long season ticket holder of the Winnipeg Symphony, the Royal Manitoba Theatre Centre and the old Winnipeg Jets. Dad was known for his self assurance, wit and keen interest in politics and issues of the day. He advocated for progressive ideas and social justice and was decades ahead of his time. He loved a good debate and was always happy to defend his position on any subject. The family would like to thank the staff of the Palliative Care Program. We were grateful for their compassion and caring both at home and in the Riverview Health Centre. A memorial service celebrating Don's life will be held on Friday, January 25 at the First Unitarian Universalist Church, 603 Wellington Crescent (at the corner of Wellington Crescent and Maryland) at 3:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Canadian Cancer Society or the Riverview Health Centre Foundation would be appreciated. SAAB, Don, Cook, RCN (25 May 1934 - 15 Dec 2011) - Born in Halifax, to Abraham and Mamie Saab. Survived by wife, Lillian (Dollard); daughter, Nadine (Kevin); son, Stephen Franks (Donna); grandson, Jonathan. Survived by siblings, Rosie (Hanratty), Marguerite (Smiley), Joyce (Belleau), Gordon (Jeanette), Leo (Judy). Predeceased by siblings, Richard, Josie, Marion, Madeline. Having survived the Kootenay explosion he went on to retire after 26 years service in the Navy. In the early 80s, together with his wife, he ran the CPO's mess at Windsor Park. He was a volunteer for several years at the kids camp at Kejimkujik, Hope Cottage, and with the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation. He was a dedicated volunteer at St. Anthony's Church. He loved flea markets and MacDonald's coffee mornings. He never forgot his most important role as father and husband. The family would like to thank Father Jan, Dr. Ken Cameron for many years of compassionate care, Dartmouth General Hospital staff for their special care over many visits and most recently the staff of Bissett Court, and aunt Joyce, for making Donnie's last days so comfortable. Words cannot express our gratitude to our wonderful neighbours, friends, and family. NOBLES, David Leslie (Charlie), PO2 - With deep sadness we announce the passing of David “Charlie” Nobles, 64, on October 10, 2012 in the Dartmouth General Hospital. Born September 28, 1948 in Brockville, ON he was the son of Bernice Edwards and the late Frederick Nobles. David is survived by his loving wife of 41 years, Constance (Lambert), his two children; Sean Edward Nobles (Kristen) and Stephanie Alanna Yeary (Matthew). He is also survived by grandchildren; Melanie and Kelsey Nobles; Caleb, Abigail, Jonah and (much awaited) Emmerson Grace Yeary. He is survived by his sister Judy Edwards (John) as well as several nieces and nephews. He will be sadly missed by his four legged princess Sophie. David was predeceased by his stepfather, Jack Edwards in 2007. David proudly served his country with 30 years service in the Royal Canadian Navy – retiring with the rank of Petty Officer 2nd Class. Upon his retirement, he dedicated many years to our youth in the Scouting Movement. David was employed with the Nova Scotia Commissionaire Corps as the Ground Transportation manager at the Stanfield Airport in Halifax. There will be no funeral or burial service as per David’s wishes. NOEL, Kirk Bradley - It is with great sadness that the family of the late Kirk Bradley Noel announce his passing on Thursday, July 13, 2006 as the result of a tragic helicopter crash off of the coast of Canso, Nova Scotia during military Search and Rescue training operations. He was 33 years of age. He leaves to mourn with fond loving memories his mother Wavey (Noel) of St. Anthony, grandmother Phoebe (Noel) of St. Anthony, Uncle John (Hazel) of St. Anthony, Aunt Sybil (Gord) of Wabush, Aunt Hean (Stephen) of Dartmouth, Nova Scotia, Uncle Shawn (Marion and children Ryan and Heidi) of Bay Bulls and Aunt Helen (Ron) Brown of Riverview, New Brunswick. John, Sybil, Jean and Shawn were more like bothers and sisters to Kirk as he was raised by his grandparents Phoebe and the late Allan Noel. Also leaving to mourn are close cousins Lynn Skinner (Scott and daughter Kelsey) of Saint John, New Brunswick, Karen Anderson (Adam and children Cameron and Grace) of Lawrencetown, Nova Scotia, Trevor Noel (Kim) of Raleigh, North Carolina, Joetta Penney of Wolfville, Nova Scotia, Geoggrey and Joshua Penney of St. Anthony, and Tyler Hillier of Griquet. Kirk was born September 9th, 1972 and attended Harriot Curtis Collegiate in St. Anthony, graduating in 1992. He also attended St. Anne's college at Church Point, Nova Scotia and Memorial University in St. John's. He enrolled in the Canadian Armed Forces 10 March, 1997 and joined the Navy as an NCIOP (Navel Combat Information Operator). He servied onboard HMCS St. John's (1998-2001), HMCS Charlottetown (2202-2003) and at CFNOS CFB Halifax (2004). Kirk decided to make a bold career change in May 2004 and applied to the elite and highly competitive Search and Rescue Technician trade of the Canadian Forces. In August 2004 he was selected from a lengthy list of candidates. After extensive self professional development, and attended CFSSAR in Comox, British Columbia from 14 August 2004 - 3 July 2005. He successfully completed the demanding course and placed near the top of his class. He was posted to 413 Squadron (T&R) in Greenwood, Nova Scotia July 2005 and proudly wore the wings of the SAR Tech. Kirk was very well liked by everyone he met throughout his military and civilian circles and was the life of the party wherever he went. A very good musician, he sang with several bands throughout his life and entertained people all over the world. Visitation took place a K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony for family and friends. A visitation service for the general public was held at the St. Anthony Olympia on Tuesday, July 18 from 9 a.m. - 9 p.m. The funeral service was held at 2 p.m. on Wednesday, July 19 at the St. Anthony Olympia Arena. A scholarship in Kirk's memory will be set up at a later date. Interment followed at the United Cemetery in Goose Cove West. Funeral arrangements were entrusted to K. M. Fillatre Funeral Home, St. Anthony, Danielle Galgay and Lee Nippard, funeral directors. Know that you are loved and that you will be remembered in our hearts and in our souls. NORRIS, Wayne William, Maj. - Born January 5, 1950 in Morris, MB, lost his long and courageous battle with cancer, December 22, 2002. Wayne passed away peacefully at home in the arms of his family. He leaves to cherish his memory the love of his life, his devoted wife Trish; son Darren (Julia) daughters, Angela (Chris), Pamela (Curtis) and precious grandson Caleb. In addition, brothers, Charles (Sandra), Tom (Caren), Bob (Rita), Nelson (Connie), Barry (Pauline) and Allan; sister-in-law Judy (Bob) brothers-in-law, Dennis and Hank; many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews and friends (including the members of 443 (MH) Squadron). Each and everyone very special to Wayne, including his cousin and guardian angel Merle (Bob). Wayne received great fulfillment from his military career which started in Kingston, where at the age of 16, he enrolled as a soldier apprentice in the Canadian Army Apprentice Training Programme. Postings to CFB Calgary, Royal Canadian Navy Preparatory School (Esquimalt), Canadian Forces Officer Candidate School (Chilliwack), 22nd NORAD region HQ (North Bay), CFS Moisie, 3 Canadian Forces Flying Training School (Portage la Prairie), 2 CFFTS (Course 7601) and Base Rescue Flight (Moose Jaw), Central Flying School (Winnipeg), E-3 AWACS (Tinker AFB Oklahoma), CFOCS, 3CFFTS, CFOCS as Deputy Comandant, Aircom HQ (Winnipeg), MARPAC EQ (Esquimalt) and finally, a dream realized, a posting to 443 (MU) Squadron (Pat Bay) with attached posting to both HMCS Ottawa and HMCS Vancouver rounded out the 36 plus years he proudly served. Wayne, a loving husband, father and grandfather, spent his leisure time fishing, gardening and Volksporting, but nothing brought more joy that the time he spent with his grandson. His genuine interest in people and kind hearted manner endeared his to all. A special thanks to 443 (MH) Squadron, Dr. K. PELLETIER, Alfred William - age 86, slipped away peacefully in the early hours of October 21, 2008, after a long and brave struggle with Alzheimers Disease. Born January 22, 1922, Al grew up in Toronto with his sister Lillian, his twin brothers Bernie and Leonard, and his mother, affectionately known as Chick. Als father died from injuries sustained in World War I. Al served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II as a Chief Petty Officer on the H.M.C.S. Digby and H.M.C.S. Granby in the North Atlantic. After the war, he joined the T.T.C. as journeyman mechanic and later moved to Mack Trucks Canada as shop foreman of the Toronto Branch where hard work led to his appointment as President and unprecedented success for Mack Canada. A natural leader, Al went on to become President, C.E.O. and Chairman of the Board of Mack Trucks Inc. He and his wife, Pat, and daughter, Nancy, moved to Allentown, where they lived for 10 years. During his tenure in Allentown, Al served as Chairman of the Minsi Trail Council, Chairman of the United Way of the Lehigh Valley, and Chairman of Vocational Clubs of America, where he was recognized by Ronald Reagan for his service to young people. He worked tirelessly to raise the funds needed to build the Allentown Parkettes Gymnasium. And he received Distinguished Citizenship Awards from both the Minsi Trail Council and the United Way, and he received an Honorary Doctor of Humanities from DeSales University. After 34 years in the trucking industry, rather than retire, Al accepted the post of President and C.E.O. of Junior Achievement of Canada. Al brought his strengths in management and visions of entrepreneurship to many aspiring young men and women. Al and Pat retired to Naples, Fla., where they enjoyed golf and tennis with their many friends. Among his many lifetime community contributions, Al spent every Thursday building homes for Habitat for Humanity in Florida. Summers were spent with the family at Lone Pine on beautiful Lake of Bays in Muskoka. Survivors: Al leaves his wife Pat; daughters, Janette (Carl Corter) and Nancy Bowen (John); son Doug (Kelly); grandsons Jason (Angela), Ryan, Randy, Scott and Brad; and step-grandchildren David (Gabriella), Arden, Tony, Annie. PENWARN, George, Jr., CPO - a 15 year veteran with the Navy, died suddenly in Halifax yesterday, 12 Jul 1965. CPO Penwarn, 38, was the son of Mr. and Mrs. B.G. Penwarn, 3136 Agricola Street. Mr. Penwarn served with the HMCS Assiniboine and was a member of St. Joseph's Church. He is survived by his wife, the former Connie Laphen; five children, Chris, Joan, Jeanette, George and Danny; and one sister, Joan (Mrs. A.L. Keith). He was predeceased by his only brother, Petty Officer Richard Penwarn. The remains are resting at Cruikshank's Funeral Home. PERRY, George Joseph - 66, Dartmouth, formerly of Mt. Uniacke, passed away Nov 5th, 2011, peacefully surrounded by his family in the V.G. Site, QE II, Halifax. George is survived by his loving wife of 43 years, Linda (Hebert); children, Christine (Chris ) Pottie and Michael Perry; grandchildren Jordan and Brooklyn; sisters, Margaret (Ron) Vickers; Eileen Carr; Eleanor Kenny; Melanie Poirier; Estha Arsenault and Theresa Hurst; brothers, Leo (Helen) and Jonny Perry. He was preceded by his Mother and Father, Margaret (Peters) and Camille, and his sister, Dora (Retiff). George served in the Canadian Navy for 34yrs retiring in 1996. He did two tours with the United Nations as well as NATO. He served in Halifax, Shelburne, Greenwood and Gagetown over his career. Being a member of the Surviving Kootenay Crew was a special source of pride for George. George even turned down promotions to stay closer to family, which was always number one priority to him. Beyond his love and passion for his wife and children, he so adored his grand children Jordan and Brooklyn. He enjoyed the nature walks and picnics, trips and vacations they had together. He so adored Papa’s Boy and Papa’s Girl. George was very active in the church and community. He served on the board of management and was treasurer of Uniacke Baptist Church. He also was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 165. George could always be counted on for a good joke or story when in a social situation. He also was a member of the unofficial community board that met at Robins every morning in Mount Uniacke to discuss world and community events. George had a passion for music and anyone who knew him could attest. George commonly used this music to play to shut-ins and retirement homes in Mount Uniacke, Windsor and other areas to brighten the days of the residents. He would play either by himself or with other members the band Luck of the Draw. A guitar to George was more then an instrument it was his calling card. George loved to tinker. Most days post retirement if not on the computer keeping in touch with friends you could find him on his tractor outside puttering around. He loved his gardening and making the vegetables and flowers grow to their full potential. Memorial service to be held at 2:00 p.m., Saturday, November 12, in the Uniacke Baptist Church, 200 Etter Rd., Mount Uniacke. Rev. Allen Orser presiding. POIRIER, Pamela Denise - 48, Windsor, passed away suddenly at home on Saturday, February 16, 2008. Pam was born on August 22, 1959, in the old Payzant Memorial Hospital, Windsor. She was the daughter of the late Ignatius St. Clair "Steve" and Marilyn Symms. She is survived by her husband of 24 years, Edward; son Leonard and his common-law wife Shelly Bogensberger; sisters, Darlene, Ontario; and Heather; brothers, Steven and Jamie, Windsor; also nieces and nephews. Besides her parents, she was predeceased by her grandparents, Kathleen and Raymond Benedict; nephew, Jason Benedict; father-in-law, Alphonse Poirier. Pam joined the Canadian Armed Forces in 1978 as a Steward where she severed for 12 years. In 1982 Pam was one of the first women to go to sea on a Canadian Armed Forces ship, H.M.C.S Cormorant. When she retired she attained the rank of Sergeant (Petty Officer, 2nd Class). Pam suffered a long illness, especially over the past two years. She was a loving and caring wife and mother and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed her. She will be sorely missed by everyone who knew her. PYE, Travis Broderick, LS, MarEng - (Born: Jul. 29, 1984 Newfoundland and Labrador, Died: Nov. 3, 2006, Bahamas) - Leading Seaman, Canadian Navy, a marine engineering mechanic on the frigate HMCS St. John's. Age 22. He was born and raised in St. Lewis, NL and joined the navy in August 2003. He previously served on the HMCS Ville de Québec and the HMCS Fredericton. LS Pye drowned after accidentally falling from a jetty into Nassau harbor while his ship was visiting the Bahamas. LS Pye is survived by mother, Catherine Pye; father, Roy Pye (Nancy); sister Vanessa Poole (Dennis); brothers Marcus and Matthew (Ethel); three nieces and a nephew; his grandmothers and large extended family. He will be missed by his circle of friends including those aboard all the ships he has sailed on but especially by Desmond Whiteway, his longtime friend and roommate. His sister released this statement: "Travis was an outgoing and adventurous person. Raised in a small community in Labrador, he went on to serve his country with pride. Travis loved his job, especially when it took him to faraway places. The customs and languages of other countries fascinated him, and appealed to his sense of adventure. But no matter how far he traveled, Travis always kept in touch. Family was very important to Travis. He loved us all so much, especially his nephew and nieces. He was very proud of his Labrador heritage. Whether snowmobiling in the winter or salmon-fishing in the summer, he loved the outdoors. Blessed with a great imagination, Travis was an artistic person who expressed himself beautifully through the visual arts. We are very proud of Travis and his choice to serve his country. He will be sadly missed, but never forgotten." Funeral was held on November 13, 2006 at The Church of St. Mary the Virgin.

ROLSTONE, Ivan - RCMP Retired Passed away peacefully in the Lodge at Broadmead on Sunday, December 14, 2003. Ivan is survived by his loving wife Margaret, son Roy and daughter-in-law Jan in Victoria and a daughter Linda in Kamloops. Ivan has four grandsons, Derek (Barbara) and Jason (Megan) in Vancouver and Kevin and Carl in Kamloops. A great-granddaughter Rylee arrived last July. His sister, Doreen Jago, lives in Toronto where there are numerous cousins. Ivan was born in Toronto on April 29, 1913 and following his high school graduation in 1937 he joined the RCMP and was posted to Winnipeg on Highway Patrol. Upon completion of his five year engagement in 1942, he resigned from the Force, enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy and was posted to HMCS Antigonish. As Quartermaster, he saw service on the North Atlantic, English Channel, Bay of Biscay and the Irish Sea. At the end of World War 2, he re-enlisted in the RCMP and spent three years in the north in charge of Yellowknife and Ft. Reliance where he and his guide were once lost in a blizzard while on patrol with their two dog teams. The RCMP Quarterly magazine published his story in the 2002 edition. He received a Commissioner's Commendation in 1946 for the attempted rescue of a drowning man and another in 1950 for his "courageous action" in risking his life to save three people. Ivan married Margaret Brown in Winnipeg in 1949 and was posted to Edmonton and Calgary where Ivan was in charge of the Calgary Highway Patrol, the Criminal Investigation Bureau, Preventive Service and Liquor Control Branch. During the Doukabour uprising in 1951, he commanded a fifteen unit squad that was sent to Grand Forks to assist the B.C. Provincial Police. Ivan was in charge of the High River, Alberta Detachment for one year prior to being posted to Ottawa where he became Editor of the RCMP Gazette. He took his discharge and pension from the Force in 1965 and joined the Federal Department of Supply and Services as Chief of Public and Media Relations until he retired in 1982. He served two years as President of the Ottawa RCMP Veterans' Association and was the first editor and producer of the Veterans' Magazine "Keeping in Touch". In 1996 he received a Special Service award from Ottawa Division. In 1987 he and Margaret retired to Victoria where they traveled extensively for several years. Ivan was a member of the Committee which published two books on the Force called "The Way It Was-Fifty Years of Memories" and "Red Serge and Stetsons" including several of his personal stories. Ivan was a life member of the Ottawa and Victoria RCMP Veterans' Associations. He was a life member of the National Press Club and Vice-President of the Canadian Industrial Editors Association. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Air Cadets Pre-War Club of Canada and an honorary life member of the RCMP Senior NCO's Mess. For many years Ivan was a member of the Blue Knights Motorcycle Club in Ottawa and rode in many of the "Ride for Sight" Campaigns. Ivan and Margaret are members of the Royal Canadian Legion, Canadian Club of Victoria, Ardmore Golf Club, the Arctic Club and St. Dunstan's Anglican Church. Ivan was a kind, generous, dependable person, a loving and caring husband and father and is well thought of by his many friends throughout Canada. He is a Veteran who has devoted many years to the service of Canada. He entered the Lodge at Broadmead in October 2001 where he has received excellent care by Dr. John Kelly and the staff and volunteers who enjoyed his good nature and sense of humour. The nurses favourite comment "he is a real gentleman." Those wishing to pay respects may do so on Sunday, December 21, 2003 at 1 pm at the First Memorial Funeral Chapel (4725 Falaise Drive). Funeral service will be held on Monday, December 22, 2003 at 11:00 am at St. Dunstan's Anglican Church (1806 San Juan). SCHEER, Albert Alex - passed away peacefully on December 27, 2005 at his home in north Edmonton. Albert was born on December 6, 1921 in Eatonia, Saskatchewan, but lived all his life in Edmonton. He was predeceased by his daughter Janice and his brothers Harvey, Charlie, Leonard, David and Eddie. He will be lovingly remembered by Kay, his wife of 54 years and greatly missed by his sons, Albert jr. and Tim Neiman, his five daughters, Nan, Keri, Jackie, Kathy and Irene and two sisters, Elsie (Fred) Layritz and Helen (Bob) Seymore both of Westlock. Grandpa will be sadly missed by his eleven grandchildren, Nicholas, Kim, Tanya, Bobbie, Kara, Candace, Dawn, Jamie, Richard, Greg, Melisa and seventeen great-grandchildren, Brittaney, Paige, Danica, Christopher, Amanda Fox, Chelsey, Joshua, Derrick, Cameron, Amanda, Corisa, Logan, Janice, Jesa, Eithan, Tyler and Natasha. 1942 Albert joined the Navy at the age of 19 and pushed off from the Canadian shore on the frigate HMCS Beacon Hill. He proudly served his country for three years, including one year in the English Channel surveying for mines and searching for submarines. After the war, Albert completed his apprenticeship as a Sheet Metal Mechanic in 1950 and upgraded to Superintendent in 1963. He continued his trade until his retirement in 1965. Albert and Kay married in 1951 and bought their home in north Edmonton where he lived out his life raising seven children. Albert loved to garden, hunt and boast about the fish he caught. No amount of words can express how much his family and friends will miss his amazing, keen sense of humor and kind, generous heart. SCHONWALD, Donald Roy - Born: 19 Jul 1937, Watson, Sask, Died: 19 Jan 2011, Kamloops, BC - Don passed away in his home on January 19, 2011 at the age of 73 years. He is survived by his daughters, Tina (Gary) Crittenden of Surrey BC, Kim (Mel) Weston of Cardston, Alberta and Dawn (Greg) Broadbent of Wetaskiwin, Alberta; nine grandchildren, and one sister, Arlene (Herb) Cave of Vancouver, BC. Don was predeceased by his former wife Jeanette "Jan" Johnson Schonwald, brother Kenneth, son James "Jim" - twin to Kim, parents Albert and Mary (Behiel) Schonwald, and son in-law Jerry Cahoon (Kim). Don was born in Watson, Saskatchewan on July 19, 1937. He joined the Navy and served on many ships, namely the H.M.C.S. Fraser. He married in September 1958 and had four children. They became residents of Kamloops in 1961. He worked for Inland Natural Gas the majority of his working career until his retirement. Don was a skilled fisherman, marksman and storyteller who loved golf and his "Old Style." He will be ever remembered and Always Loved. At Don's request, he will be cremated with no formal ceremony. SHONFIELD, Morris Conroy (Shon) (06 Jan 1922 - 19 Jan 2013) - It is with deep sadness that the family announces the sudden death of Shon at his home in Victoria, B.C., on Saturday, January 19, 2013 at the age of 91. Cherished husband of Violet, his wife of almost 70 years. Devoted father and father- in-law of Michael, Susan and John Williams, and Robin and Kathryn. Much-loved grandfather of Dawne Marie, Sarah, Sandy, Julia and Geoff, Alan and Graham. Shon was a veteran who served in the Royal Canadian Navy during World War II and his stories of that time will live on in the book he wrote for his children and grandchildren. SMEDLEY, Charles Stanley, CD, RCN, Fleet Diving Officer - Born UK 13 Dec 1910. Family moved to Canada 1913, settled in Canmore AB. Smedley applied to join RCN on Dec 20, 1926 aged 16. He was not accepted as too young. He applied again on Feb 27, ’28 & was accepted, entering as a Boy Seaman on 31 Aug ’28. Smedley was very intelligent & a quick learner, he progressed rapidly up the promotion ladder in the small coastal service that was the RCN between the wars. AB – June ’30, LS - March ’34, PO -July ’36, CPO -June ’40. All thru has career he was taking courses to improve himself. As he had not completed grade 8 in school, he took various educational courses thru the ‘20’s, gaining educational certificates as well as professional advancement. He entered the Torpedo branch, qualifying as ST1, Dec ’30; LTO Oct ’3; & TGM Jun ’37. Smedley had an early interest in diving & was the first RCN member accepted to take the long Diver’s course at HMS Vernon UK, qualifying as a Diver 2nd class May ’31. He then took another Diver course in ’34 qualifying as a 1st class Diver. On Feb 6 ’42 he was promoted to Warrant Gunner(T), then Commissioned Gunner(T) 1July ’44. Smedley’s war service was in Destroyers as Gunner(T), serving on HMCS Crescent & Huron. During the war he took courses in Navigation, Torpedo, Damage Control, Electrical & Magnetism, & Seamanship. On his Gunner(T) qualification exam he scored 87%. After the war Smedley returned to Diving, being appointed In Command of Diving Tender Nr 2 at HMCS Naden Feb ’46. He was to spend most of his post war naval career involved with naval diving. Promoted to Commissioned Gunner(TAS)(T) upon the reorganization of the RCN Torpedo branch in July ’47. Promoted to Lieut(T)Dec ’48. In Feb ’49 Smedley was selected for the Master Diving Course at the USN School for Deep Sea Divers in Washington DC, & subsequent duty at the New London CT, Submarine Base. He returned to Canada in Sep ’49 & was re-appointed In Command of Diving Tender Nr 2 & appointed Command Officer (Diving). In Aug ’50 he was appointed to the Staff of Flag Officer Pacific coast & Staff Officer (Diving). He was awarded CD with additional service clasp on Feb 6, ’51. In Sep ’52 Smedley now leaves Diving duties for a period, being appointed to HMCS Bytown, Ottawa, ON, Directorate of Warfare & Training for TAS Duties. Canada was developing a policy as an antisubmarine navy during this period & presumably Smedley was involved in shaping this policy. In Sep ’53 he is appointed to HMCS Hunter (Naval Reserve Division, Windsor ON) as Staff Officer (Administration), & promoted to Lieut Commander, Apr ’55. In Jan ’56 he returns to HMCS Stadacona as OIC Operational Diving Unit (East Coast). In Oct ’56 he is appointed in command of HMCS Granby, the operational diving unit on the east coast & appointed Fleet Diving Officer. He remains in that appointment until he has to retire due to age (50) Dec ’60. After he left the RCN Smedley moved back to BC, living in Delta, until he died on Jan 1, ’69, 58 yrs of age.

SMITH, Kelly Albert, Sgt (23 Oct 1960 - 05 Jun 2011) - Predeceased by his mother Dayle Smith, Kelly passed away suddenly and unexpectedly at home in Comox on Sunday morning, with his partner and love, Angela Cleaveland, at his side. He is survived by his loving daughter Tara Smith (Byron Leader), his father Albert Smith (Loralee), sister Elaine Vollmer, brother-in-law and best friend Dave Vollmer, and cherished niece & nephew Erin & Craig Vollmer, all of Stratford, Ontario. He is also survived by his step-son Kelcey Hathaway and Angela's son Rob (Lindsay) of Comox, B.C., dear friend Mark Amos, and many, many other friends. Kelly was born in Toronto, and spent his teens in Stratford. He joined the military in London, Ontario in March 1981 and completed basic training infantry school in Oct. 1981. As a member of the 3rd Battalion of The Royal Canadian Regiment, he was posted to Baden, Germany in July 1982, and also completed a UN tour of duty in Nicosia, Cyprus in 1986. In June of 1987 he saw the light" and began his Fire Fighting career with the Military at Borden Ontario's Canadian Forces Fire Academy. His 1st posting as a fire fighter brought him to CFB Comox in July 1987, where his daughter was born in November 1988. He was posted in 1993 to HMCS Vancouver in Esquimalt, BC. After a 5 year leave from the military, Kelly rejoined and was again posted to HMCS Vancouver as a fire fighter and was promoted to Master Corporal in 2003. In May 2004, he took part in Task Force Arabian Sea, Bahrain, on HMCS Winnipeg. After being promoted to Sergeant and posted once again to CFB Comox, Kelly was deployed to Kandahar, Afghanistan as acting Fire Chief in August 2007. Kelly's family would like to offer their heart felt gratitude to The Canadian Armed Forces, the members of CFB Comox and 19 Wing Fire Dept. as well as the many friends who have been so supportive, for their caring, assistance and compassion. Viewing and visitation will take place on Friday, June 10th from 7 to 9pm from Comox Valley Funeral Home, Cremation and Reception Centre, 1101 Ryan Road. SPRINGER, Robert (Bob) Allen - 76, of Kingston, passed away peacefully Friday March 14, 2008 in Soldiers Memorial Hospital, Middleton, after a short but valiant fight with cancer, with his "special girls" (daughters) by his side. Born December 22, 1931 in Chatham, NB., he was a son of the late Francis and Laura (Bernard) Springer.. Bob was a member of the All Saints Anglican Church in Kingston. He served on the HMCS Saguenay from 1954 - 1959. He loved to go to yard sales and to flea markets. Bob loved working on electronics especially clocks. Bob enjoyed preparing and sharing a good meal and good times with family and friends. He will be sadly missed but never forgotten. A special thank-you to Bob's niece Valerie, Miramichi; nephew, Frank, Moncton NB.; and special friend, Margie, Kingston, your love and support is appreciated and will not be forgotten. SULLIVAN, Blair Gerard (Spike) (1933-2013) - 80, Herring Cove, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, March 20,2013 in the New Halifax Infirmary, QEII. Born in Halifax, he was a son of the late Bernard and Marion (Power) Sullivan. Spike served with the Canadian Navy joining at the end of the Korean Conflict and was deployed during the Cuban Missile Crisis. He served on the HMCS Fraser, HMCS Athabaskan and numerous others during his 30 years of service. Upon retiring, he continued pursuing his passion for the sea as an inshore fisherman. Over the years, he volunteered as a coach in minor hockey, baseball and was one of the founders who brought ladies ringette to Nova Scotia and was active in the fishing community. He earned his Life Master Certificate with the American Contract Bridge League; he was an avid chess player, owned and raced thoroughbred horses. He is survived by his sons, David, British Columbia; Bernard (Fran), Barry (Sandi), both of Herring Cove; daughters, Doris, Herring Cove, Pamela Lively (Philip), Ajax, Ontario; sister Marina Quinn (John), Pembroke, Ontario; six grandchildren; four great grandchildren, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his best friend and wife of almost 60 years, Donna (Power), brother, Leonard "Leo". Arrangements are under the care of J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd. (477-5601). TAYLOR, Warren Thomas Leroy - 04 Jan 1934 - 12 May 2011) - of Regina SK, passed away suddenly on May 12, 2011 at the age of 77. Predeceased by his parents, John and Helen Taylor and his brother Ken. Warren is survived by his soul-mate and wife of 46 years, Erika; daughter Kim (Richard); son John (Andrea); three grandchildren Brenna, Katherine and Laila; brother Neil (Shirley) and sister Illa (Gordon). Warren served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a wireless operator on HMCS Beacon Hill, worked as a brick layer all over western Canada for 25 years, and was an Occupational Health and Safety Officer with the Saskatchewan Department of Labour for 20 years. Warren was known as 'The Great Communicator', and was considered a gentleman, a scholar and a friend to all who crossed his path. He loved his family with abandon and lived to serve others. His desire was to always 'leave things better than he found them' and he always did. We have assurance that his pain has ended and he is with his Lord and Saviour ... probably playing crib and praying for his Riders! TOBIN, Richard Francis (15 Oct 1961 - 31 May 2013) - It is with great sadness and heavy hearts that the Tobin family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, son, uncle and friend. Rick was born in St. John’s, NL to Agnes Tobin and the late Pius Tobin. He is survived by his three girls, his wife of 22 years, Sharon (Janes) Tobin and their daughters, Hillary Diane Tobin and Richelle June Tobin. He also leaves his brothers, Marc (Holly), John (Lois), Dan and Ron Tobin; his sister in law Diane Janes and his brother in law Keith (Robin) Janes and many nieces and nephews, god daughters, extended family including his special cousin Gina Connors and countless friends and colleagues. Rick left Newfoundland as a young man on his way to adventure. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1979 and over 23 years he sailed on numerous ships and served on many tours of duty. In 1987 he met the love of his life, Sharon and they raised two beautiful daughters in Halifax. Rick retired from the Forces in 2002. He took a year off with his daughters and then began working with the Inn on the Lake as a night auditor. In 2006 he began working with Provincial Aerospace Limited first as a sensor operator and later as member of the training division. Rick’s work took him around the world, to the Middle East and the Caribbean and back to the province he loved, Newfoundland. One of his highlights was to be assigned tasks that took him to the BC Coast during the Vancouver Olympic Games in 2010. Rick was a longtime member of the Royal Canadian Legion and his weekly dart leagues. He was known for his love of hunting and fishing, and looked forward to every spring to begin his garden. Rick loved many things in his life. His girls, his garden, his reading, his music and his coffee but most of all he loved his hockey team! GO HABS GO!!! Rick will rest at the J. Albert Walker Funeral Home (2005) Ltd., 149 Herring Cove Road, Halifax (477-5601), where visitation will be on Tuesday, June 4 from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Wednesday, June 5 at 10 AM in St. Michael’s Roman Catholic Church, Fr. WAGNER, Frank (29 Dec 1915 - 20 Feb 2009) - passed away peacefully at the Deer Lodge Centre at the age of 93 years. Frank moves on to rejoin his beloved wife Olive who predeceased him in 2005. When you make it to your 94th year, there are not a lot of people to say goodbye. On the up side, there will be a good crowd on hand to welcome their friend. Dad will be greatly missed by his boys, Franklin (Caroline) and David (Laurie), grandchildren David, Emily (Stuart), Elizabeth and Thomas will all miss Pa's humour, help and love. Numerous cousins, nieces and nephews survive Frank. God-daughter Beverly and her sisters Barbara (William) and Brenda were extra close. The only child of Frank and Hilda Wagner, Frank grew up on Hart Ave. and was educated at Glen Elm School and St. John's High. A running back for the Tigers, Frank was a keen sportsman throughout his life. Frank played hockey with the Elmwood Maple Leaf Club, curled at the Granite and golfed at Rossmere. Frank retired from a long career at Imperial Oil in 1980. Proud to be a Canadian, Frank served with the RCN in the Second World War on the decks of the HMCS Loch Alvie. He was a proud member of the Demolay and a Scottish Rite Mason. A devoted husband, a loving father, grandfather, friend and all around good guy, Frank will be missed. A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. on Wednesday, February 25, 2009 at Neil Bardal Inc., 984 Portage Ave. (entrance on Aubrey Street). HMCS LOCH ALVIE

WALKER, Edward George (Ed) - was born in Toronto, Ontario on September 19, 1922. He went to be with Jesus on Tuesday, October 3, 2006. Ed joined the Navy in World War II when he was old enough and took his first year of training as an E.R.A. at Galt (now Woodstock), ON and the second year at Esquimalt on Vancouver Island. The H.M.C.S. Antigonish was the last Canadian Frigate built in Esquimalt and Ed was assigned to the crew that took it through the Panama Canal and up to Halifax for active duty, escorting convoys half way to England and bringing back the convoys coming to Canada. Ed played the Banjo and the family spent many happy hours singing especially around camp fires. Ed met his sweetheart, Olive May Ward, while home on leave and they were married in Leaside United Church on July 12, 1945 so had over sixty-one years together. He was blessed with three daughters, three grandsons, three granddaughters, one great-granddaughter and is expecting in November. His first daughter is Susan E. Andersen of Calgary, AB and her three children are Peter G. Andersen, Tracey E. McNaught, and Daniel T.J. Andersen, and her granddaughter is Alexis E. McNaught who is eleven years old. His middle daughter is Barbara J. Walker of Calgary, AB. His third daughter is D. Jane Tetley and Pat of Crossfield, AB and their three children are, Angela D. Tetley and David Poetker, Lonny P. Tetley engaged to Stephanie Berezowski, and Sheena L. Tetley and Brett Christie of Calgary, AB. Ed's parents were Joe and Beth Walker of Toronto, ON. His older sister is Norma and Gord McMinn of Brantford, ON. Their son is Jim and Sharon McMinn of Mississauga, ON, and their daughter is Joanne and Jim Clemens who have three children, Jimmy and his wife Karrie-Anne Campbell of Wawa, ON, Joe Campbell of Jasper, AB and David Campbell of Brantford, ON. His younger sister is Lois and Robert Carr of Georgetown, ON and their son is Joe and Dianne Carr of Wasaga Beach, and their children, are Jacob and Aleda Carr. Their first daughter is Karen Spykers, and her daughter is Candice; and their second daughter is Linda Bilks and her children are Curtis and Bradley of Georgetown, ON. Ed always had a soft spot in his heart for the Salvation Army for their kind support and gifts of socks and soap when he was chasing submarines on the North Atlantic. Ed was cremated and a celebration of his life's journey will be held at Parkdale Grace Fellowship (2608 - 1 Avenue N.W., Calgary) on Saturday, October 14, 2006 at 2:00 p.m. followed by a reception. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Salvation Army, 420 - 9 Avenue S.E., Calgary, AB T2G 0R9 or a charity of your choice.

HMCS ANTIGONISH

WIGGINS, Harry Robert - It is with great sorrow that we must announce the sudden passing of our beloved father, Harry Robert Wiggins, at his home in Saskatoon on April 22, 2002 at the age of 76. Dad is survived by his sons, Bob (Marilyn) Wiggins, Ron Wiggins, Tom (Pat) Wiggins and his daughter, Kathie (Darren) Valantine. He is also survived by his sisters, Edith (Bern) Frankham, Doris 9jack) Henderson and Olive (Werner) Schatz; his grandchildren, Tracie (Brent) Belisle, Christeen (Steve) Leader, Brad (Tracy) Wiggins, Jason Wiggins, Jeff (Shannon) Wiggins, Denny Silbernagel, Michelle Silbernagel and David Silbernagel; his great-grandchildren, Matthew, Brandon, Jeremy, James, Jordan, Kayla and Chayse, who called him :Papa Great". There are many, many other relatives and friends, too numerous to mention, that we are sure will sorely miss our dad as well. Dad was predeceased by his wife, Dora (1980), and his sister, Blanche. Dad was born on the family farm near Nokomis, SK on August 27, 1925. He joined the Canadian navy "underage" during World War II and served on corvettes  on the North Atlantic run, finishing his service on HMCS Orangeville. Dad was employed at Mitchell's Gourmet Foods Inc. for over 42 years retiring in 1986. After spending several years at the West Coast dad returned to Saskatoon and spent his last four years residing with his son, Tom. He took a keen interest in his grandchildren's accomplishments. He enjoyed his curling on television and was always up for a good game of cribbage. Dad you are deeply missed and will live on forever in our hearts. A Public Visitation for family and friends will be held on Wednesday, April 24, 2002 from 7:00 to 9:00 p.m. and the Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, April 25, 2002 at 2:00 p.m. with Joan Brown presiding, both services at the Acadia Drive Funeral Chapel (915 Acadia Drive).
