Delta fraternity and the Canadian Officers Training Corps. After graduating,
he joined the Royal Canadian Navy and served as Engineer Officer aboard the
frigate Chebogue, engaged in North Atlantic convoy duty. After the war, Don
completed a Master of Science in Mechanical Engineering at the Massachusetts
Institute of Technology. Don worked for a number of years in industry,
including positions with BC Electric and the Industrial Development Bank. In
1963, Don began a lengthy and fruitful relationship with the newly developing

Canada in recognition of his "exceptional contribution to the engineering

Toronto, Peterborough, Winnipeg, Yellowknife and Victoria before settling in
Vancouver, where they raised their family. Don and Jean travelled together and
with their children over much of Canada and parts of the United States,
Mexico, Britain and Europe. When at home, Don loved every minute that he,
Jean, and their children spent building and enjoying their cabin at Sunshine
Valley, near Hope, BC. Don enjoyed walks with family and his dogs Skeeter and
Nikita in the parks of Vancouver, long and short car trips, and home
improvement projects. As the family grew, he became a devoted grandfather and
developed strong relationships with his grandchildren. Don and Jean proudly
celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary in January. Along with Jean, Don was
an active member of West Point Grey United Church for over 50 years. He was at
various times a Board member and general handyman, and enjoyed the many and

May 5, 1945 just before VE Day. After discharge, he worked for Commercial
Printers in Regina and gave many years of service to the Regina Gyro Club,
becoming the youngest President of the Club. He enjoyed being with his family
at the cottage at Katepwa Beach and taking summer camping trips. Walt &
Vivian moved to Victoria in 1979 where he became very involved with the Oak
Bay Kiwanis Club. For more than 17 years, he volunteered at the Kiwanis Tea
Room at Willows Beach where he enjoyed meeting people and watching children
play on the beach. Other activities he enjoyed were Operation Trackshoes and
helping entertain residents of Kiwanis Rose Manor. As a member of the Pro
Pat/Trafalgar Legion, he sold poppies for many years at the Eaton Centre as
well as manning the Salvation Army Christmas kettles. Walt always remained a
loyal Sask. Roughrider fan and was also a longtime supporter of the Naden
Band, CFB Esquimalt. Being such a romantic, he arranged 55th and 60th
Anniversary celebration trips, taking Vivian back to New York and the church
where they were married. Walt and Vivian shared many holidays in Hawaii as
well as cruises and touring in Europe and Asia. His love of family guided his
life and ours. His love, generosity, energy and attention to detail instilled
in us many values and standards that have helped to shape all of the lives he
has touched. His sheltering embrace was always there for us and will remain
alive in our hearts forever. He will be missed by longtime friends and
relatives in B.C., Sask. and overseas. The family gratefully thanks Dr. David
Meir, our friend as well as" Doctor who makes house calls". We also
thank the Palliative Response Team, Home Care Nursing, B.C. Cancer Agency, Oak
Bay Kiwanis Club, James Bay United Church and all the other people who have
helped our family through this past year. Memorial service to be held at James
Bay United Church, Michigan & Menzies on Monday, Nov. 6th at 11:00 a.m.,

FORSBERG, Allan - Peacefully with his wife and daughters by his side, Allan Forsberg (Frosty)
passed away on Wednesday, February 19, 2014 at the Grace Hospice. Al will be
sadly missed by his loving wife Bev; his daughters Kim (Keith) Grant, Debbie
(Manfred) Rehm, and his grandchildren Kelsey (Darryl) and Kyle, and many
friends and relatives. He was predeceased by his parents, Carl and Florence,
sisters Dorothy and Shirley, brothers Roy and Larry, grandchildren Kaitlyn,
Kristopher and Karalee, and his good buddy George McLean. Born in Winnipeg on
March 12, 1934, Al grew up in Fort Rouge. After graduating from Kelvin High
School, he served in the Royal Canadian Navy, which spawned many great
stories. From there he worked for the CN Railroad, and eventually found his
career with the City of Winnipeg Fire Department where he spent 36 years,
retiring as a District Chief in 1993. Throughout his life Al enjoyed family
camping trips to Rushing River, get togetherS at the Forsberg family cottage
at Hecla Island, family barbecues in the backyard and visits from the
grandchildren at Nan and Pop's riverside retreat at Prawda. After retirement
Bev and Al enjoyed traveling south for the winters to Arizona. Al was fondly
known as "Frosty" throughout the fire department, and if you ran
into a fellow fire fighter that didn't know Al Forsberg, chances are that they
knew Frosty. Frosty was known for his love of card games, unrelenting sense of
humour, his down to earth persona, and his good heartedness. After retirement,
Al dedicated many hours of his time as a volunteer to the Salvation Army, and
he enjoyed visiting with the guys at the 5 Platoon monthly retirement
breakfasts. Frosty, always looking for the next good laugh, enjoyed the
company and camaraderie of his buddies at the Stagger Inn. He was a wonderful
husband, a loving father, a good friend, and he cherished the time spent with
his grandchildren. A special thanks to Local 867 UFFW for your caring and
support during Frosty's illness, and to the nurses, doctors and all of the

FOSTER, John Anthony (Jack)
- Jack left on the next leg of his journey on
February 28, 2012 at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital from congestive heart
failure which he had fought for many years. He is now reunited with his wife,
Patricia (1995) and his son-in-law, Robert (1993), as well as many close
family members and friends. Continuing on in Nanaimo are his daughter, Gail;
granddaughter, LeeAnn (Rob and Julia); and in Victoria, his grandson, Brent
(Amanda, Aidan & Gavin). Jack was born John (Giovanni) Fuoco to Alberto
and Herminia Fuoco, in Trenton, Ontario, on May 25, 1923. He loved the sea and
served in both the Navy and Merchant Navy and served time aboard the HMCS
Discovery, among others. Upon his discharge, he moved his family to the west
coast and resided in Nanaimo, BC. He returned to the sea, sailing with the CPR
coastal Princess fleet before settling on the Marguerite as the Chief
Steward. In his position, Jack was able to work and sail among those from the
bridge to the stern and the decks above and below. Jack was a strong believer
in the equality of man and the importance of honour, integrity and merit in
their rankings. Jack's belief in these equalities and his desire for others to
share those values, by hook or by crook, served him well during his time as
local president of the Brotherhood of Railway, Airline and Steamship Clerks
and, after retirement, the CP Coasters. Jack loved his play as much as his
work. His ability to raise a glass was as strong as his ability to raise
spirits and whatever he decided to grow in his gardens and in his wine
cellars. Jack has touched the lives of many people, families and organizations
throughout his life, always without the need for recognition or fanfare. He
will be deeply missed by countless friends and family. Perhaps most important
of all to Jack were his grandchildren and great grandchildren. His positivity,
pride, smiles and love for them was both profound and everlasting. Through his
intelligence, shrewdness, strength of character, and force of will, Jack made
his own course. His course was chosen to benefit others as equally as himself.
Its importance was not that it was followed heading by heading, but that those
that were with you arrived at their destination as safely and as pleased with
the journey as he was. In the absence of a service or celebration, Jack's
desire was for all to say "Arrivederci" AND "Adios," in
the manner in which our hearts, our minds, and our time and circumstance
provides us. A very special thank you to Dr. Tony Zuccaro for his dedication,
caring and compassion to Jack over the years.

GIBBINGS, Herb (Gibb) -
With deep sadness we announce the passing of our beloved husband, father and
grandfather, Herb "Gibb" Gibbings on January 12, 2014, in his home
that he loved. Gibb will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by his wife
Lil, daughters Lynne, Brenda (Rick), sons Glen (Rose), Gerry (Kathy), Gordon
(Anne); his grandchildren, Geoffrey (Christine), Brett (Destiny), Carly (Tristan),
Korin, Kerri-Lynne (Marc) and great-grandchildren, Austin, Garrett, Cora,
Isabelle and his sister Marge Giles. Dad was born in Lakeland, Manitoba on May
31, 1924 to Percy and Hilda Gibbings. He grew up on the farm with his brothers
Bill, John, Gordon and sisters Marge and Gladys. He, along with his brothers
enlisted in the Armed Forces with dad enlisting in the Royal Canadian Navy. In
1943 he was drafted to the 65th M.T.B. Flotilla. He went overseas to Liverpool
and served in the North Sea and English Channel. He was wounded in action on
March 17, 1945 and spent six weeks in the Ganges Hospital in Ipswich, England.
While overseas he met his future wife, Lil, at a dance in Paignton, Devon...he
saw a "beautiful gypsy girl across the floor". They married in
England on July 7, 1945 and eventually made their home in Winnipeg. They
raised five children in a small loving home on Erin Street in the west end
with wonderful neighbours and friends. Gibb and Lil celebrated their 68th
wedding anniversary on July 7, 2013. They enjoyed several trips back to
England to visit family and friends and many trips to Barbados and Jamaica. A
favourite vacation was with the whole family in 1991 to Negril, Jamaica. Gibb
was a proud member of the Army and Navy and the Royal Canadian Legion Branch
#1 for 48 years. He and Lil made many wonderful friendships over the years
attending legion functions, and enjoying many fun filled excursions. Dad was a
long time member of the White Ensign and enjoyed the friendships of his fellow
navy mates. He attended meetings regularly until it became too difficult. He
also participated in many Sears get togethers with fellow retirees. Life was
filled with family, friends, hockey, football, soccer and woodworking. Dad
loved music, playing guitar and family sing alongs. He had an amazing voice
and was a beautiful dancer. Dad was a loving husband, father, and grandfather.
He took great pride in his home and garden and was happiest when he had a
project underway. He was very proud of the accomplishments of his children and
grandchildren. We miss him so already but have many wonderful memories to
cherish. A celebration of Gibb's life will be held at 2:00 p.m., Monday,
January 20, 2014 at Glen Lawn Funeral Home, 455 Lagimodiere Blvd. Interment
will follow in the family niche at Glen Lawn Memorial Gardens. Our family
extends warm thanks to Home Care workers, Charlene and Robin whose support
enabled dad to stay in his home. In lieu of flowers donations to Children's
Hospital or the Dream Factory or a charity of your choice in memory of Gibb
would be appreciated. "Till we meet again" Love, Lil (The Winnipeg
Free Press 18 Jan 2014)

the age 87 years at Deer Lodge Centre. Jack was a gentlemen's, gentlemen. All
who knew Jack recognized his generous spirit, love for family, neighbours,
friends and community. The legacy to be cherished was his high ethics, his
service to others, with his special sense of humour, that unforgettable
twinkle in his eyes and the joy of simple things. He leaves to mourn his
beloved wife, Marie, and his five children, Curtis (Debbie) Clossin, Charisse
Clossin, John (Mary-Lou) Hughes, Scarlette (Edwin) Ulrich and Michelle (Jim)
Stanson, his 12 grandchildren and one great-grandchild. He was the only child
to Laura and Hugh Hughes, predeceased. Jack was born, raised and educated in

he met and married the love of his life, Marie. Although at the age of 41 when
he married, he often said how fortunate he was he never missed a thing in
life. Leaving farm life they resided in Kenora, where they built a home. He
eventually moved his family to Winnipeg to begin a career with the Department
of Agriculture. After retirement, Jack enjoyed his time at the Winnipeg
International Airport as a Commissionaire. Jack was a proud member of the
Royal Canadian Legion, Branch 215, FSNA Winnipeg and the Winnipeg White Ensign
Naval Club. The last 21 months were especially difficult with the disease of
Asbestosis and the link diseases. We thank those whose care and sincere
interest in our Dad during the final stages of the disease. The loving support
from the Pastoral, volunteers, and personnel throughout Deer Lodge Centre will
never be forgotten. As a final gift of generosity his body has been donated to
the University of Manitoba for Medical Research. To Jack, your presence we

JESSIMAN, Duncan James - The
Honourable, Q.C., Quietly and with dignity, Duncan passed away, on
Wednesday, April 19, 2006 in Vancouver, BC. Duncan is survived by Alix
(Perrin), his loving and caring wife of 27 years; and his children, Duncan
(Colleen Crawford), Robert (Sally Kendall) and Sally (Arnold Ostevik). 'Big',
as he was affectionately known, will also be missed by his devoted
grandchildren, Duncan (Tressa Main), Patrick, Shauna, Ryann (Phil Doucette),
Scott, Robin, Joe and Julia. Big was a loving caring father and grandfather
always there to support and love his family. It made him very proud that all
of his children were university educated and active professionals in their
communities. He was born in Winnipeg, MB on June 5 1923, to parents, William
and Rubina (Ruby) Jessiman. He was predeceased by his mother when he was 9
years old and subsequently by his father and brothers, William, Tom and John
and he is survived by his youngest brother Harvey. At age 16, Duncan left home
and went west to fight fires in British Columbia. His Aunt Ret and Uncle Dunc
then convinced him to come home and stay with them and go back to school. They
made him realize the importance of education. At the age of 18, he joined the
Royal Canadian Navy as a midshipman. He served in the coastal forces in
Canada, the United Kingdom and France. He served with the 29th Canadian Motor
Torpedo Boat Flotilla and was part of the Allied liberation of Europe,
participating in D-day, June 6, 1944, and in operations on the French, Belgian
and Dutch coasts. This was dangerous duty. He survived the destruction of his
squadron at 0stend in 1945. He was honourably discharged as a Lieutenant RCNVR
in August 1945. After his service he continued his commitment to lifelong
learning as he worked to obtain his law degree. After he obtained his law
degree, he went back and obtained his arts degree and then later his LLM and
then went on to teach in the post graduate program at the law school. He
started practicing law in 1948, when he joined with Arthur Johnston, the firm
eventually becoming Johnston, Jessiman, Gardner and Twaddle. In 1971 that firm
joined with Pitblado and Hoskin where he became a partner and in 1998 he
joined Aikins, MacAulay Thorvaldson where he continued his practice until
2005. He was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1959 and appeared successfully
before the Supreme Court of Canada on four occasions. He was a lifelong member
of the Progressive Conservative Party of Canada and became a senator in 1993.
He took great pride on the work he did in the Senate with the Special
Committee dealing with the Pearson Airport Agreements, the Standing Committees
on Fisheries and Oceans; Legal and Constitutional Affairs; Social Affairs,
Science and Technology; the Sub Committee on Veterans Affairs; and the Joint
Committee on Child Custody and Access. In addition to politics Duncan's
commitment to the community involved his participation in the Rotary Club of
Winnipeg where he became President, the University of Winnipeg, where he
became Chairman of the Board of Regents; he was a founding member, chairperson
of the board and member of the executive committee of the Victoria General
Hospital Research and Services Inc.; in addition he was a member of the
advisory boards of Rainbow Stage and the Canadian Arthritis Society. In
business he was equally successful where he was a driving force in the
creation of a number of entities listed on the Toronto Stock Exchange. These
entities included Service Corporation International Canada, Geocrude Energy,
Pan Cana Resources and RIMOIL where he served as chairman and Enerplus
Resources where he was a director. He also served as a director of Air Canada.
In Winnipeg, through Progressive Holdings he was involved with many
investments involving among other things, land development. The development of
Linden Ridge with others was one of its larger undertakings. Through his
community involvement, political associations and business interests, there
were not many places he didn't travel to, however his best times were visiting
the far flung reaches of Canada and getting to know and gain a better
understanding of the people. He always prided himself for having a goal,
setting the agenda, being rigorously honest, being in control, giving ample
consideration to all the details in complex matters, he had a very focused and
strong mind. When needed he was always able to shift his truly incredible
power of focus to deal with the required issue at hand, usually involving
others. He was always determined and could always be relied on. His enormous
strength, energy and the security of purpose was cherished by many, but in
particular, his family members. He will be dearly missed by all. He was a
member of the Manitoba Club and the St. Charles Country Club where he very
much enjoyed matching wits with the Boys of Friday . For many years Duncan and
the family spent summers enjoying the family cottage uniquely located on the
isthmus between West Hawk Lake and Hunt Lake. A service in celebration of
Duncan's life will take place at St. George's Crescentwood Anglican Church,
168 Wilton St. in Winnipeg on Tuesday, April 25 at 11:00 a.m. with reception
to follow at the Church. Donations to CancerCare Manitoba, P.O. Box 2248,
Winnipeg, MB R3C 4A6 are gratefully appreciated. Duncan was deeply
appreciative of all his caregivers, especially Antonia and Merril and his
dedicated wife and daughter. One always knew where he stood on a matter. (The

JESSOP, John W. (Jack), PO,

1912 in Wakefield, Yorkshire, England, passed away July 1, 2010 in Victoria of
natural causes in his 99th year. His life is remembered with delight and
gratitude by his grieving widow Mercedes, together with nephew Davison Balfour
(and Flo) of Toronto. Predeceased by his first wife Violet and son John.
Survived by nephews Adam and Eliot Smith and granddaughter Alexandra of
Montreal, and as well by niece Melanie Heywood and nephew Richard Balfour.
Jack is the last brother of a large family in England. He emigrated to Canada
during the depression and made his way to Winnipeg where he worked at the
Exchange. During the war years he served across Canada from Halifax to
Esquimalt in the RCNVR as an active Petty Officer. Following that, he was a
Banker with the Toronto Dominion Bank until his retirement in Toronto when he
moved with Violet to Victoria. Jack was a member of the choir in the Anglican
Church for over seventy years. He was an avid golfer and once he no longer
walked the course he golfed on his computer screen. He was still driving his
car at the age of 97 and always enjoyed a jaunt to fetch fish and chips, even
in the month before he left us. One of his legacies is a cellar of fine
homemade wine, and we still quaff it with a toast to his quick knowing
witticisms. He and Mercedes married after a courtship which started at an
Anglican Church picnic. They were married when he was 88 and they had nearly
ten wonderful years together. He will be deeply missed. In lieu of flowers
donations to the charity of your choice would be appreciated. Cremation has

KELLY, Joseph Shaw - Quite
suddenly, although not unexpected, Joseph Shaw Kelly passed away peacefully on
the afternoon of Thursday, March 30, 2000. Dad to us, Joe to his family and
friends, he lived a good life with a passion for helping others. We do not
mourn his death. Rather we celebrate his full and rewarding life. Dad was
predeceased by his loving wife and soul mate Shirley; brothers, Bernard and
Michael and sisters, Rita and Mary-Margaret all of with whom he has now been
re-united. He is survived by his two "chosen" children, Sharon and
Jim; his sisters, Kathleen and Betty; son-in-law Kevin Donnelly;
daughter-in-law Joanne Hoekstra; grandchildren, Katie, Rachel, Thomas and
Christopher Donnelly and Stefanie and Benjamin Kelly and many, many nieces,
nephews and cousins. We celebrate Dads life of helping and serving others:
from his service in the RCNVR in the Second World War, through his years as an
officer with RCSCC Crusader, and his involvement with the Naval Officers
Association and the local community. Dad always put his family, his friends,
sometimes complete strangers, and yes, even his dogs ahead of himself. While
we will miss him in this physical life, his memory will live on forever in all
of us whose hearts he has touched in so many different ways. Although the
number of people to thank is endless and too numerous to mention, Sharon and I
must thank three people who have helped us so much, given our great distance
apart from Dad. Great thanks to Kerry LeBlanc, a close friend of Sharon and
Kevin. He has been an absolute God send over the past few years, selflessly
taking care of things on our behalf to make Dads life so much easier. And to
my birth-aunt Fran and cousin Rosanne both of whom I only met for the first
time last June, for comforting Dad throughout his final hours including his
time of passing. In lieu of flowers, Dad would have wanted you to donate
whatever you could to your own choice of charity. Funeral Services will be
held at Desjardins Funeral Chapel, 357 Des Meurons St., on Monday, April 3, at
3:00 p.m. Interment of cremated remains till follow at Glen Lawn Memorial
Gardens. The Desjardins Funeral Chapel in care of arrangements. (The Winnipeg

KOSTASHUK, George - On
June 11, 2014. George, born in Vegreville, AB, on May 11, 1927, the youngest of the six children of Manoly "Mike" and Anna, enjoyed
a fulfilling childhood in Vegreville. At school he excelled in science and was
keenly aware of the world around him. In 1945 George graduated from high
school, and having attained the rank of sergeant in the local Air Cadets unit,
was accepted into the Fleet Air Arm of the RCN. As World War II ended just
three days before his 18th birthday, George redirected his efforts to
attending university. He was accepted to the University of Alberta and
graduated with an Honours degree in Physics in 1949. While at U of A he spent
his summers honing his scientific skills working in Suffield for the Defence
Research Board. After a brief stint at Western Geophysical he moved to
Vancouver to pursue graduate studies at UBC. However, the lure of the oil
industry proved too great, so George returned to Western and took on the role
of Party Chief, working his way across Canada with the company. Looking for
more adventure from his work in Canada George took on an assignment in Milan,
Italy, and began a life-long love of travel. It was while based in Italy that
he proposed to and married Shirley Van Dusen of Wellington, Ontario, his
loving wife of 58 years. Following civil and church ceremonies in Rome, the
happy couple departed on their honeymoon to Capri and Tripoli (a working
honeymoon!). After spending several years in the Mediterranean region George
and Shirley returned to Canada to start their family. They settled in Calgary
but only long enough to have two children before setting off to the Canary
Islands for a posting at Western's West African operations. Upon returning to
Calgary, and having two more children, George started a new phase in his work,
exploring for oil and gas fields in Alberta with firms including Sinclair,
Mobil, and Banff Oil. One of the many highlights of his career was his leading
role in the discovery of the giant Strachan gas field in the Alberta
foothills. George progressed with the growing Canadian oil industry, opening
up new frontiers in the Arctic while conducting seismic programs with
Calgary-based Velocity Surveys. Eventually he became Vice President and
General Manager of Sigma Explorations, continuing his work in conventional and
arctic seismic acquisition. George focused much of his career in frontier
areas and was a pioneer in arctic seismic surveys. He was a dedicated member
of Twin Rivers Toastmasters Club for 43 years. George was an Honorary Life
Member of APEGA and received the CSEG Meritorious Service award as well as
many other professional honours. As a proud Albertan, George supported many
initiatives and was very active in the geophysical community. George, with
Shirley and their family, enjoyed skiing, boating, golfing, and the benefits
of living in Calgary. He is survived by his wife Shirley, sisters Jeanette and
Olyve, son Michael (Peggy), daughters Mary, Liz (Sean Hann), and special
daughter Brenda Winston, grandchildren Christopher, David, Tessa, and Liam, as
well as many nieces and nephews. George is predeceased by his son John,
brother Stan, and sisters Kay Kenyon and Mary Pruner. George's family extend
their gratitude to the nursing and care staff of the Rockyview Hospital and
Sarcee Hospice for their support during his brief illness. To honour George's
dedication to Geoscience, donations can be made in his memory to the CSEG
Foundation (c/o cseg.office@shaw.ca or online through www.canadahelps.org) and
to the Heart & Stroke Foundation. A Memorial Service will be held at the
Living Spirit United Church, 629 - 49 Avenue S.W., Calgary, Alberta on Monday,
June 16, 2014 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow at the Glencoe Club, 636 -29
Avenue S.W. Arrangements in care of Pierson's Funeral Service 403-235-3602.

WEBSTER,
Ronald D., C2ER, 9677-E / Lt (N), RCN / C.A.F. (Navy)
Served 14 Mar 1949 - 15 May 1981
It is with profound sadness that
we announce the passing of Ron on April 18, 2016 with his family at his side.
Ron was born in Victoria on October 2, 1926 and grew up in Vic West where he enjoyed athletics
and singing as a soloist at Christ Church Cathedral. Ron excelled at soccer
and it soon became a lifelong passion. He'd excitedly recall many game
changing plays that brought victory for his Victoria High School and navy
teams. Ron coached his son's soccer teams, and later enjoyed watching European
matches, in particular, his Manchester United team. Ron proudly served in the
R.C.N. for 32 years as an engineer aboard many vessels, including The Sioux
during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged in 1981 with rank of
Lieutenant, and continued to work for another 10 years as a government
contract supply officer inspecting ships. During Ron's middle years, his
family aptly nicknamed him "Guy Lafleur" for his expert, armchair
hockey commentary and for his claims that: "I could have scored that
one!" The name stuck for 35 years. Through the years Ron kept very active
supporting his children's athletic and career pursuits. He was a long time
member of the Cordova Bay Kiwanis, the Esquimalt Curling Club, and the Work
Point Boat Club where his boat, Sea Biscuit, was moored. Many of Ron's
happiest times were spent fishing with his buddies Garnet, Nick, and Hank. For
years his family was treated to delicious seafood and lively tales of how the
illusive, "big one" got away. In retirement, Ron and his wife, Barb
enjoyed cruising to many European countries, New Zealand, Australia, Iceland
and the Caribbean. Ron almost talked himself out of the St. Petersburg, Russia
tour fearing that the local tour company he hired had mafia connections.
Fortunately, he was convinced otherwise, and it proved to be his most
memorable port of call. Ron considered Wailea, Maui his second home where he
looked forward to watching the humpback whales frolic, listening to
"his" doves' a.m. greetings, and praising the sunsets with a
celebratory Mai Tai toast. At home, Ron loved to walk his dog Willie along the
Westsong Walkway and enjoyed getting caught up with friends at the Rainbow
Park bench. Ron was often seen with a newspaper or magazine in hand as he was
keenly interested in keeping current with local and world events. He is
survived by his loving wife of 55 years, Barbara Anne (Burge); his children
Jenny (Todd), Denise (Al), and Ron (Dale), grandchildren Georgia and
Mackenzie; and numerous relatives and a host of friends. We will fondly
remember Ron for his lovely smile, thoughtful and gentle spirit, strong work
ethic and uncompromising values. We will cherish Ron's dedication to his
family and friends, and his humorous life stories with which he shared with
great delight. His family wishes to acknowledge and thank all those who
provided unwavering compassion, support, and entertainment for Ron during the
final months of his journey in particular, Suzanne & Garnet, Alyson,
Lynda, and Barb. Special thanks to Ron's wonderful care givers at R.J.H.
Hospice, and Dr. Domke and Dr. Sanders. Ron requested no service. In lieu of
flowers, donations can be made to the Victoria Hospice in Ron's memory. Those
who knew Ron know how much he enjoyed a good beer. The next time you have a
cold one, raise your glass and think of Ron. Ron we will love you and miss you
till the end of time. Toodaloo. (The Times Colonist 23 Apr 2016)
