BAXTER, Stanley Parr (05 Jan 1920 - 11 Jul 2005) - Peacefully on Monday, July 11 Stanley passed away at the Seven Oaks Hospital. He is survived by his three sons, Gary, Ron (Darlene) and Brian (Debbie); five grandchildren, Heather (Mauricio), Brad (Tannis), Ryan, Tyler and Branden; six great-grandchildren, Gillian, Cody, Travis, Jade, April and Lilliana. Stan was predeceased by his wife Kathleen in 1999. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held Friday, July 15 at 2:00 p.m. at Glen Eden Funeral Home with interment to follow. MacDONALD, Arthur A. (Artie) - (1926-2014) Peacefully, surrounded by his family, at the Beach Grove Home on Saturday, March 1, 2014, of Mr. Artie MacDonald of Morell, age 87 years. Beloved husband of the late Teresa (nee Kenefic) MacDonald and dear father of Janet (Donald) Affleck and Shirley (John) Myers. He is also lovingly remembered by his grandchildren, Darrell (Kim), Karley Affleck, Darren (Gabrielle), Chad, Lucas (Katie) and Keegan Myers; great-grandchildren, Madelyn, Kennedy, Taylor and Saphiah Affleck, Cyle and Cody Myers; his siblings, Linus MacDonald, Leo (Bernadette) MacDonald, Helen (Jerry) Meridith and Joe “Bomber” MacDonald; and sister-in-law, Joan MacDonald. SHERWIN, Murray Allan - At the Tufford Nursing Home on Tuesday October 25, 2016 in his 94th year. Beloved husband of the late Ruth Sherwin. Dear father of Allan (Doris), Ronald ( the late Betty), and Wayne (Shirley). He will be missed by his grandchildren Christopher, Leigh and Patricia (Adam). Predeceased by his brother Lloyd and sister in law Elaine. Murray served on the HMCS Port Colborne during W.W. II. Many thanks to the nursing staff on 2A at the NHS and the staff at Tufford Nursing Home for thier excellent care. Mr. Sherwin is at the Butler Funeral Home, St. Catharines, where the family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel on Saturday October 29th at 10 a.m. Interment to follow. KANEB, Edward (14 Oct 1922 - 26 Oct 2016) - Our Father, Edward Kaneb would be surprised with this obit. Always larger than life, who'd have ever thought that death would ever want to tangle with him. He had a roar that softened with age, but occasionally surfaced to remind his family and others that he was always a force to be reckoned with, even at 94. The strength of the force with which he lived was equaled only by his love for his wife Kaye and his four children: Leslie, Gretchen, Elizabeth and Edward Jr. He loved us beyond belief and we carried our love for him anywhere and everywhere we went, near or far. We always called and checked in. Dad was witty, sarcastic, charming, and difficult wrapped up as a human being who had struggled and worked all his life. He lived by the motto "Don't Quit." He was an authority on the stock market, politics, construction, apple propagation, and life in general. Dad was proud of his family, his orchard and all that he worked at. He was chairman of Massena Electric for twenty years. He slowed down after his wife's death, but still remained interested and involved in the community. He drove his big white car until the end. Dad was born October 14, 1922 in Worcester, Massachusetts. His family moved to Cornwall, Ontario where he would grow up. He attended school at CCVS and later proudly attended McGill University. He was an avid athlete and loved basketball, tennis and hockey. He loved to fish and taught us all how to hook a line. After graduation, he joined the Canadian Navy serving in WWII. He and Kaye would move to Massena in 1956 to construct and operate the Highland Hotel which would subsequently become the Highland Nursing Home. He opened and operated food concession stands at Eisenhower Locks and Barnhart Beach. He was a restauranteur long before it was cool to be in the food business and he foresaw the need to care for the aged long before nursing homes were part of the landscape. Dad was part of a large Lebanese family in Cornwall and his brothers Nick (late), George (late), Wilfred (late) and Victor along with his sisters Marilyn and Lorraine (late) were always part of his and our boisterous lives. He leaves behind a multitude of cousins, nieces and nephews. Last but not least he leaves behind his most loved grandchildren: Lindsay, Meryl, Hillary, Roger, Michael and great-grands: Charlotte, Avery, Chloe and Oliver. A Celebration of Ed's Life for family and friends will be held on Saturday, November 5, 2016 from 3-7 at the Highland Nursing Home, 182 Highland Road, Massena, NY.

LAZLOCK, Chester Joseph (Ches/Geza) (05 Apr 1924 - 02 Nov 2016) - Our hearts are heavy with sadness and yet deepest gratitude for what our dear husband, father, father in law, Papa, brother-in-law and dearest friend Chester (Ches/Geza) Lazlock has left us as his legacy. Ches peacefully passed away on Wednesday November 2, 2016 after a very brief but hard fought illness. Throughout his life, Ches was so many things to many people including: a sailor who fought bravely in the Royal Canadian Navy in WWII, a diligent engineer with Imperial Oil with many decades of hard work in Alberta, a valuable St. John's Aid instructor and so much more to so many. However, it was as a devoted husband, caring father, and nurturing Papa that he will be most passionately remembered. Truly, a blessed source of pure light in the world for so many, Ches will be sorely missed. Ches is survived by his loving wife Anne, son Ron (Gail), daughter Cathy McKee, sister-in-law Betty Jaksa and grandchildren Carly, Taylor (Brittany), Anyssa, and Rylee McKee. A funeral service in his memory will be held on Monday, November 7, 2016 at St. Luke's Catholic Church - 1566 Northmount Drive NW at 11:00 A.M. internment to follow. He is survived by his brothers Ronald (Diane) of St. Eustache, Que., and Kenneth (Marlyn) of Flesherton, Ont., and is predeceased by his brother William (Carol). He was born in Montreal, Que and lived in St. Lambert, Que. before moving to Burlington, Ont. in 1985. James Dawson was a proud WWII Veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy serving on corvettes and frigates in the Atlantic. He was a graduate of Sir George William University and a retiree of Molson Breweries in Montreal after 35 years of service. An avid curler, golfer and bridge player, he was a member of the Outrement, the St. Lambert, the Country Club of Burlington and the Oakville curling clubs, the Country Club of Montreal golf club in St. Lambert and Hidden Lake Golf Club in Burlington. James Dawson will be greatly missed and fondly remembered. At his request, he has been cremated and a private family funeral has taken place. SIMPSON, Gilbert Clark - With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of our father Gilbert Simpson, on Saturday October 29, 2016, at the age of 91. He leaves to mourn his sons, Douglas and Craig; daughters, Karen (Harvey) Enns and Sheilagh (Trevor) Dohie; his cherished granddaughters, Ainsley (Kyle) Prior, Jennefer (Derek) Waskul, Shayna Simpson, and Chelsea Enns (Albert Gorter); great-grandchildren, Cameron, Gavin, Justin and Gwynn. He also leaves his beloved brother Gordon (Ida) Simpson of Kelowna B.C.; brother in law Doug (Donna) Craigie, sister-in-law Eileen Craigie, many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his wife Edna in 2000, after 50 years of marriage; his parents Clark and Olive (nee Gilbert) Simpson. Gilbert was born in Winnipeg and grew up in Fort Rouge, graduating from Kelvin High School. He then answered the call to serve, joining the Royal Navy in 1944, through 1945, training in Esquimalt, B.C., serving on the H.M.C.S Prince Rupert. Post war he was employed with Air Canada (TCA) as a Procurement Officer in Purchasing and Stores department for over 23 years. During his retirement, he enjoyed many a luncheon with the Air Canada Pionairs. After taking early retirement from Air Canada, he was employed with Sears Canada for 10 years. A sports enthusiast, he played baseball and hockey in his youth and enjoyed golf well into his 70's, attending golf tournaments with his Air Canada coworkers. Dad was an avid fan of the Toronto Maple Leafs and Winnipeg Blue Bombers. A proud moment in his life was with his brother Gord, as they accepted the Hockey Hall of Fame Builder Award in 1993, on behalf of their father Clark Simpson's team building contribution of the Toronto Maple Leafs. Gil and Edna (nee Craigie) married in June of 1949 and lived in Fort Rouge before their permanent residence in St. Vital, where he lived through to October 2016. Dad was a very independent man, with his greatest desire to live his life in his family home. He loved attending family gatherings, dinners at his daughters, and sports/school events of his granddaughters, camera always in hand. Dad's favorite past time was his time spent at Grand Beach, renting each year and then eventually purchasing a family cottage in 1999. Thereafter, Grand Beach became a summer residence for Dad. Many family memories were made there, again camera always in hand. We are so grateful for those photos today. There were many a card game played with friends Fran and Flo, a highlight of his time at the beach. Dad had a strong sense of community, recycling before it was customary, as well as donating blood of over 100 donations, being commemorated for this valued contribution. We will forever miss you Dad. THOMAS, Evan Luke (Larry) - An officer and a gentleman - died peacefully on October 17, 2016 in Victoria, BC. Larry was born in Kenora, Ontario, on June 23, 1921. He was predeceased by his first wife, Dora, his parents Harry and Mary, his sister Bernice and his son-in-law, Graham Brown. Larry is survived by his loving wife of 32 years, Lavone, his children: Larry (Janet), Shelley (Trevor); his grandchildren: Lana (Darren), Ryan (Janice), Colin (Cindy) and Michael (Lorree); his great grandchildren: Brittany, Josh, Caden, Maden, Alex, Anderson, Faith, Graham and Lily. Larry is also survived by Lavone's children: Dale (Lynne), Judy (David); her grandchildren: Meghan, Gavin, Molly; her great grandchildren: Caleigh and Gabriel. Larry spent his formative years in Regina, Saskatchewan. He was educated at Central Collegiate and enjoyed his minor hockey with the Regina Pats Association. Owing to a strong desire to serve Canada, Larry enlisted with HMCS Queens in 1940. Larry was trained as a medical officer and served in World War II as doctor on numerous ships in the Canadian and British fleets. At the conclusion of the war Larry returned to Canada, but not before marrying a beautiful British singer named Dora Tuke. Two children soon followed - Larry and Shelley - and the Thomas family began to establish roots, ultimately settling in Victoria, BC. Larry continued to serve in the Canadian Forces and shifted his focus to training the next generation of naval medical officers. Larry soon became a grandfather and, in that category, was simply unmatched. He became his grandchildren's hero and showed them a world full of love and imagination: Saxe Point Park, jelly bean trees, skipping rocks, racing in the Cortina, heads out the sunroof of the Reliant, Qualicum Beach with Peggy and Denny, digging potatoes, eating peas in the pod, ball tag, elastic guns, and fish & chip nights while watching "On the Busses." Although Larry was devastated at the loss of Dora in 1982, he was fortunate to find true love again. In 1984, Larry married the exquisite Lavone Peebles and began a new life, entering into the world of retirement. Travelling and playing golf were the name of the game - cruises far and wide and adventures in the motorhome. Larry and Lavone became snowbirds, enjoying winters in Arizona and summers at their home in Arbutus Ridge. Larry and Lavone were social butterflies and enjoyed a wide circle of family and friends, including their long-standing card group. Larry and Lavone eventually moved back to the Victoria area and enjoyed a number of years at Matticks' Farm in Cordova Bay before settling into their new community at Berwick, Royal Oak. Larry will surely be missed. There will be a Celebration of Life on Saturday, November 19th at 2:00pm in the Theatre at Berwick, Royal Oak, 4680 Elk Lake Drive. TAYLOR, George Wilfred (Buck), Chief Petty Officer Anti-Aircraft Rating, 3521-E, RCN  (02 Oct 1920 - 29 Oct 2016) - passed away peacefully with members of his family by his side. George was born in Moose Jaw, Sask. and later joined the military where he met the love of his life Reta in Halifax, N.S. He served in the navy during wartime and peacetime on the Saguenay, Uganda, Ontario, Sioux and Waskesiu. After a medical discharge he sailed on the Weathership Vancouver, he also served on the Canadian Forces Auxiliary Vessel with Queen's Harbour Master in dockyard until he retired at age 60. George leaves behind his children Doug (Yvonne), Sandra, George (Pat), 6 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. Predeceased by his wife Reta and brothers Albert and Doug. George was a member of the Chiefs Petty Officers Assn. and 50 years with the Royal Canadian Legion. The family wishes to extend our sincere thanks to the staff at the Sunset Lodge for their care, compassion and respect they showed towards our dad. No funeral by request. ALWARD, Joseph Henry (Bud) (1937-2016) - 79, of Coldbrook, Kings County, passed away Thursday, November 3, 2016 in the Valley Regional Hospital, Kentville. Born in Notre Dame, NB, he was a son of the late Joseph and Edith (Linfield) Alward. He served with the Canadian Armed Forces (Navy), for 37 years. He then worked with the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires, first in Ottawa and then at Kingstec in Kentville, from where he retired. He loved football and enjoyed skydiving. He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Audrey (Perkins); daughters, Kim Tytler (her son, Adam) and Crystal Sewards, both of Ottawa; son, Dan Alward (his children, Tanner, Conner and Anna), Mission, BC; two sisters, Ella (Oscar), Brantall, BC; Sharon (Raymond), Brantall, BC; four brothers, Ernie (Shirley), Dartmouth; George (Linda), Penobsquis, NB; Robert (Marilyn), Penobsquis, NB; Douglas (Lynn), Quispamsis, NB; many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by a sister, Ruth MacPhee; a brother, Jim. There will be no visitation, by request. A graveside service will be held at a later date. CATCHPAUGH, Wayne Neil (04 Dec 1945 - 01 Nov 2016) - It is with great sadness that the family of Wayne Neil Catchpaugh announces his passing at the age of 70 from the QEII hospital, Halifax, Nova Scotia. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife Carol, stepsons Robert Fraser (Deborah), David Fraser, daughter Cindyanne Luker (Lawrence) Edmonton, AB., son Alex Catchpaugh (Shelley) Calgary, AB., Mother Irene Knowlton Magog, QC., sister Lorraine Holt (Gerry) Georgeville QC., grandchildren Connor, Hannah, Reece, Jansyn, Brooke, Cody, Makayla, Courtney, and Meghan. Wayne was predeceased by his loving father Adrian Jasper Catchpaugh Magog QC. Wayne was an active and energetic person who could put his hand to almost anything. He was always there to help family and friends whenever the need arose. He was born in Magog, QC. left home at age 17 to join the Royal Canadian Navy where he later became a clearance diver something he always dreamed of doing. His main passion was his love of sailing and the building of his cherished boat of 17 years. Though he did not get to sail his dream far, it is the journey and the accomplishment of that dream that was foremost in his heart, and all who loved and were close to him realize this. Wayne over his lifetime made many friends in his diving career, especially his loved companion divers and their families, his friends and co-workers at the Royal Nova Scotia Yacht Squadron, Wayne and Peter and their wives Edith and Melissa (close devoted friends), sailing friends at Armdale Yacht Club, so many wonderful and thoughtful church friends from St. Benedict Parish and Fairview United and our very closest friends over the years together who we travel and play cards with and so many more over his lifetime. He will be sorrowfully missed every moment of our days. Sail on my loving husband, father, brother, son, grampy, colleague and friend till we see you again in Gods Heavenly Kingdom. Our deepest Gratitude goes out to all the Doctors and Nurses on 8.4 at the QEII hospital, especially Dr. Susan Rippley and Nurses Ryan Johnson and Marley Richards. CAMPBELL, Kenneth William - SBSTJ, age 61 years of Dartmouth passed away October 27, 2016 at home. Ken passed away peacefully and with dignity surrounded by his loving family and friends after a long and courageous battle with cancer. He is survived by his wife the former Darlene Richard, daughters Santanna, Brittany (Brandon) and Laurie. Granddaughters Haley and Neveah, brothers Archie (Audrey) of Halifax, James (Joanne), Kingston, Ontario, Douglas, Saskatchewan as well several nieces and nephews, his pal Buddy and family friends Denise and Jim Northrup. Ken served in the Royal Canadian Navy from 1973-1974, then went on to serve in the Canadian Coast Guard as a rescue technician from 1979 until he retired in 2014. Serving on nine different ships throughout his career. Ken was also awarded the Canadian Coast Guards Exemplary service medal. At age 16 Ken became a member of St. John Ambulance Brigade in Regina and later in Dartmouth as a St. John Ambulance Volunteer Medical Responder. Ken was very passionate about his commitment to the community and will be greatly missed. NEAR, Ronald G. (Pop) - age 90, of Margaree Centre, passed away peacefully at home on October 28, 2016, surrounded by his family. He was born in St. Mary’s, Ont., on May 3rd, 1926, a son of the late Casper and Mary (Morris) Near. 'Ron' was the last surviving sibling of 15. Ronald joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943. He served as a Gunner on merchant ships until the end of the war when he was discharged. Rejoining the Royal Canadian Navy in 1951 and serving in several posts on the East coast, including Shearwater, until retiring with 25 years’ service in 1971. During retirement, Ron worked as an entrepreneur, was an avid sports enthusiast, and a devoted Toronto Maple Leafs’ fan. Besides his parents and siblings, he was predeceased by his infant daughter, Cynthia. Ronald is survived by his loving wife of 72 years, Lucille (Leppard) Near; sons, Ronald (Peggy), Yellowknife; Randall, Margaree Centre; daughter, Cindy (Jeffery) Hart, Margaree Centre. (Born: 17 Mar 1934) Passed away peacefully in his sleep in his home at Overlander Extended Care Hospital on November 4, 2016, aged 82 years. Survived by his daughters, Marilee (Greg) Hermiston, Marci (Alan) Henderson, and grandsons, Jordan Hermiston, Daren (Lexi) Hermiston and Corey (Brooke Dennill) Hermiston. Sisters Elnor (Finlay) McNaughton, Cheryl (Ralph) Wilkey, sister-in-law Doris Woodruff and many wonderful nieces and nephews, family and friends. Pre-deceased by his wife Joyce, father Merrill Woodruff, mother and step-father Bernice and Walter Brown, brother Emerson Woodruff and sister-in-law Phyllis Bader. Woody was born in Medicine Hat Alberta on March 17, 1934. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1954 and served in the regular forces for 34 years and the reserve forces for five years before his retirement. He was a lifelong hockey player and golfer. He and Joyce were married in June of 1956 and settled in Victoria where they raised their daughters. They retired to Vernon and then Kamloops and enjoyed a wonderful retirement with their daughters, son-in-laws and grandsons. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. OUTHOUSE, Mendal Blake - 89, Veterans Place, formerly of Deerfield, passed away September 10, 2008, in Veterans Place, Yarmouth. He was born in Tiverton, Digby Co., on October 5, 1918, to Bernard Edison Outhouse and Sadie Blanche (Trask). He was one of nine children. The family moved from Tiverton to Port Maitland when Mendal was about three years old. This is where he spent most of his childhood. On July 3, 1943, he married Viola Mae Allen from the Woodstock Road. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in the 40s and was soon sent overseas to Ireland, up the English Channel, Holland, Gibraltar and Belfast. His daughter Ellen was born during this time. In the navy he served aboard different ships, the final one being the HMCS Charlottetown during the early 1940’s. Shortly after returning to Nova Scotia their second child, David Wayne, arrived and four years later there was a third child, Charles Mendal. During the early 1950s they moved to Ontario for a few years before returning to Yarmouth. Many people will remember Mendal from Sandford where he lived with his wife and children for many years before moving to South Ohio. At this time he was employed by CNR to work in the engine rooms aboard the MV Bluenose and the Marine Evangeline performing various engine room related duties ranging from oiler to Fourth Class Engineer. He retired in 1976 and moved with his wife to Deerfield where they lived until she passed away in 1997. Mendal remarried in 2001 to Evelyn Rodney of Sandford. They enjoyed seven years of visiting friends and traveling around until Mendal suffered a stroke in 2007. Mendal was a member of the Brazil Lake Wesleyan Church and thoroughly enjoyed the fellowship he found there. In later years he attended the Baptist and the Wesleyan churches in Sandford. Also he was a member of Port Maitland Legion where he enjoyed going for a good round of pool. After being admitted to the hospital in September of 2007, Mendal was transferred to the Veteran’s Wing in January of 2008 and remained there until his passing. He was a devoted father, grandfather and great-grandfather as well as a committed Christian. He will be sadly missed, until we all meet again. Surviving are wife, Evelyn (Rodney) Outhouse; daughter, Ellen (Gerald) Robinson, Deerfield, Yarmouth Co.; sons, Wayne Outhouse, Short Beach; Charles “Chuck” (Barbara) Outhouse, Lake George; brother, Ronald (Elsie), Port Maitland; sisters, Virginia Ross, Yarmouth; Elnora Churchill, Cornwall, Ont.; sister-in-law, Jessie Outhouse, Port Maitland; brother-in-law, Victor Hurlbert, Kemptville; 10 grandchildren and 16 great- grandchildren. He was predeceased by his first wife, Viola; daughter in infancy, Linda Louise; grandson, Jimmie Robinson; great- grandson, Justin Goreham; sisters, Margaret O’Connell and Enid Hurlbert. Remains are resting in Sweeny’s Funeral Home, Yarmouth. WARD, Victor H., Warrant Officer, W/T 2c, OFF VR-0447, RNCVR - the second son, 22 years of age, is chief wireless operator on HMCS Hochelaga. He was with the Dominion Government wireless service on various stations on Vancouver Island for some years, and when war broke out he was transferred to the naval branch, patroling the east cost of Canada. He was educated in London and at Greenwich Royal Naval School, where he spent four years, and he was with the Imperial navy as wireless operator on HMS King Edward VII and HMS Hercules for some time. PACE, David Elliot - born April 15, 1946, passed away peacefully September 20, 2016, surrounded by family. Born in Halifax he was the son of the late Marjorie Anderson and John James Pace. Dad experienced life to the fullest, having journeyed down many roads, but always called Halifax his home. He was a retired Bus Operator with Halifax Transit. Dad held many positions during his life, Gibson Guitar and Purity Dairy, in Tennessee where he laid his hat for over 15 years. He was a pro boxer in his younger years, having 19 pro fights, then traveling throughout the USA, once even being the sparring partner of George Chuvalo in Los Vegas. He served in the Canadian Forces in the 1960's. His family was his pride and joy. He is survived by sons, David Jr. (Erin), Gerald (Joe )(Kelly), daughter Stephanie, brother Bill, Gerald (Ann Marie), sister Mary, Grandsons, Kyle and Aidan, granddaughters, Rachelle, Kaylee, Emily, Fallon, Maarika, Skylar and Laylah, his ex-wife but dear friend, Kathryn Pace, as well as his extended family, the Supples, who were always in his heart. He had a fatherly love for all his nieces and nephews. He was a larger than life man. In his last years his pride and joy was lived through his grandchildren. He was a hero to us all. Besides his parents, he was predeceased by brothers, Douglas, James, Ronald and sister Edna. He was a former gunner for the Royal Canadian Navy and worked as a Corps of Commissionaires in Bathurst. He was predeceased by his first wife, the former Joan Rose. COURTNEY, David James, CPO1 - Born December 25, 1944 in Collingwood, Ontario. David passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on Sunday November 6, 2016, at the age of 71. He leaves his wife, Linda (Stuckless), who he shared his life with for 42 years. David was the father to two children, John (Robyn) and Catherine. He also survived by his siblings Gary (Sharon) and Carol (Klaus) Wernsdorf. David was predeceased by his parents, Donald and Ivy (McQuay) Courtney. David joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1969, and was posted to Halifax, Nova Scotia. He served for 20 years and retired as a Chief Petty Officer 1st Class. After his military retirement he worked at the HMC Dockyard, Fleet Maintenance Facility, initially in the Diesel shop and finally as a gearing inspector in Mechanical Engineering. In retirement David clocked many kilometers with his faithful dog pal, Shelby. He always had a project on the go, or could be seen helping family, friends and neighbors. Thank you to the outstanding care at the QEII Health Sciences Centre, especially Dr. David MacDonald and the hematology department. We would also like to thank the staff on 6A and Palliative Care in the Centennial Building for all their care, kindness and compassion. Funeral service will be held at Bethany United Church on November 10, 2016 at 11am, tea and visitation to follow service. HAWES, William Muir, LCdr, RCN - passed away peacefully on October 28, 2016 at the age of 70 in Ottawa. Son of the late Elizabeth Simpson Muir and William Thomas Hawes. Bill was born and raised in Montreal where he attended McGill University and graduated from Sir George Williams with a Science degree, majoring in Math and Physics. He will be dearly missed by his half- brother, Douglas Hawes and nephew Barrie Hawes in London, Ontario, cousin Alex Lamoureux in Fox Point, Wisconsin and great-niece Lauren Dawe in Calgary, Alberta, along with many good friends in Canada and the United States. As a Combat Systems Engineer in the RCN, Bill spent much of his adventure-filled career on submarines. It allowed him to see the world, including an exchange with the Royal British Navy and deployment in the Arctic Circle during the Cold War. Described by his Commander as an unfailing futurist, an inquisitive and intensely analytical individual who had a remarkable ability with sophisticated computer systems. When Bill retired from the Navy in 1985, he joined Lockheed Martin, the global aerospace, defense, security and advanced technologies company. He remained at Lockheed Martin for 25 years until retirement in 2011. It was here that he made and retained many special friends. Bill will always be remembered as a caring and thoughtful individual with a wonderful sense of humour. In spite of many health challenges, Bill remained an independent person focused on the world around him. There will be a special celebration of Bill's life in the spring. DUBLANKO, Tofen (Toby), Stoker (26 Mar 1925 - 10 Nov 2016) - On November 10, 2016 Tofen Dublanko passed away peacefully, with his family at his side, after a courageous battle with cancer. It is with great sadness that we say goodbye to an awesome dad, grandpa, great-grandpa and brother. Tofen grew up on a farm in the Calmar district. He attended Conjuring Creek School for the early grades and then continued on to High School in Calmar. During WWII he enlisted in the Canadian Navy as a Stoker; then transferred to the newly formed Fleet Air Arm. Tofen deployed to England, on the Queen Mary troop transport ship, where he trained with the Royal Navy to become an Air Mechanic Electrician. He returned to Canada in 1946 on the aircraft carrier HMS Puncher. After discharge, he earned a B.Ed. degree from the U of A and later a M.Ed. from the Univ. of N. Dakota. For 34 years Tofen served as a teacher and school administrator with the Edmonton Public School Board, retiring in 1984. In retirement, Mom and Dad spent many winters in southern California golfing, playing cards, and enjoying the warmer climate with friends. Tofen completed his life as he lived it, with strength, courage, and dignity. Tofen is survived by three sons: David, Donald (Rosemarie), Darrell (Helen), seven grandchildren, and two great-grandchildren. He is survived by brothers Mike and Harold and sister Helen Batt. He was predeceased by Audrey, his wonderful life partner of nearly 60 years; one sister Stella Woitas and parents Andrew and Titania Doblanko. The family wishes to express their thanks and appreciation for the compassionate care Dad received from the staff in Unit 3E3 at the U of A Hospital. At Tofen's request, there will be no public memorial service. His ashes, at his direction, will be scattered among Audrey's ashes, in the Rose Garden at Beechmount Cemetery, Edmonton. McKINNON, Alastair Thomson (25 May 1925 - 06 Nov 2016) - Professor Emeritus, McGill University, died peacefully in Toronto in his ninety-second year after a long period of declining health. Husband and beloved companion for sixty- three years of Millie (Sutton) McKinnon (2010). Dear father of Catherine (Larry Pfaff), Christine (William Seager), and Angus (Barb McKinnon) and loving grandfather of Alexander and Rosalind Pfaff, Emma, Tessa and Ned Seager, Andrew (2013), Stuart and Cameron McKinnon. Alastair is survived by his two brothers, Stuart (Ottawa) and Kenneth (Guelph), and predeceased by his brother Douglas and his sister Elinor. Alastair spoke warmly of the many opportunities life had afforded him. Born on a farm in Erin Township, Ontario, he served in the Canadian Navy in World War II, and graduated from Victoria College, University of Toronto (1947) before earning an M.A. (Toronto), Ph.D (Edinburgh), and B.D. (McGill). He spent his forty-year academic career in the Department of Philosophy at McGill, as Macdonald Professor of Moral Philosophy from 1971 and serving as Chair of Philosophy (1975-1983). He was President of the Canadian Theological Society 1959-60 and the Canadian Philosophical Association in 1979-80. Alastair's 1950 doctoral thesis on Soren Kierkegaard propelled much of his future scholarship and took him to Copenhagen for several productive sojourns in the 1980s and 1990s. A pioneer in the use of computers for the study of philosophical texts, he published a concordance to Kierkegaard's collected works in 1971, the first electronic text of the philosopher's writings in 1988, multiple papers based on statistical analysis of the texts and, in the 1990s, with a Danish colleague, played a crucial role in conceiving the development of a new critical edition of Kierkegaard's collected works. He was made a Fellow of the Royal Society of Canada (1981), a Knight of the Order of the Dannebrog (1995), and Doctor of Humane Letters (St Olaf College, Minnesota, 1998). Active and enthusiastic, Alastair took his young family camping and on travels across Europe, and later built a sailboat with them. He organized scrub baseball for neighbourhood children and enjoyed hosting visitors to Montreal. He could sew, build furniture, fix most household items, and advocated conservation practices long before most. He drove a two-seater MG sports car in the early 1950s, skated well, walked regularly, played an expert game of croquinole, and followed CBC Radio closely. While attached to his old rural Ontario roots, he was always outward looking and curious, mentoring international students, working collaboratively with a wide range of international colleagues and eager to explore the places his work took him. Raised in the Christian Disciples Church in Hillsburgh, he attended and served at the former Erskine and American United Church, Montreal for fifty years. He and Millie moved from Montreal in 2001, and after two years in Peterborough, settled in Toronto in retirement. The family is grateful for the care provided over the last seven years by the staff of Christie Gardens and, in particular, for the loving attention of special caregivers, Luz and Jessie. Cremation has taken place. A family service will be held followed by interment at the Coningsby Cemetery, Wellington County. KNOLL, Ronald Carl - age 83 of Halifax, passed away November 7, 2016 in the VG Site, QEII. Born in Humberstone, Ont., he was a son of the late Carl and Hannah (Morrison) Knoll. Ron served in the Royal Canadian Navy for 32 years. After retirement, he worked at the Halifax Dockyard for 15 years. Ron loved to make model ships as well as having a good game of darts at the Mess. Surviving are his wife, Lois (Somers); sisters, Darlene (Tom) Roduck, Sharon McClenny; daughter, Dianna; daughter-in-law, Patsy. Ron was predeceased by his son, Bradley. Cremation has taken place under the care of Atlantic Funeral Home, 6552 Bayers Rd., Halifax. In keeping with Ron’s wishes there will be no service. Private interment will take place at a later date.

SOMMER, Gordon George -  Born Jan. 25, 1924 at Donalda, Alberta. He joined up in March 1943 at Edmonton, Alberta. After training, served on the HMCS Beacon Hill from May 1944 till his discharge on Sept. 7, 1945. He died on Jan. 28, 1983 at the age of 59 at Camrose, Alberta.

FOX, Ezra Milford (30 Jul 1923 - 09 Nov 2016) - died peacefully with his daughter at his side on Wednesday, November 9, 2016 at the age of 93 years. Ezra was born in Kingsville, ON, and was the oldest son of 5 children. Ezra joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1940 at the age of 18 and was assigned as a Gunner on the minesweeper HMCS Thunder. Between 1940 and 1945, the Thunder was assigned a front-line role in the invasion of Hitler's Europe. This included participating in the D-Day sweeping of the mine-infested waters of Omaha Beach. Ezra received the rank of Knight of the National Order of the Legion of Honour from the Republic of France. Upon his return to Canada, he resided in London, ON where he met his wife Theresa. They were married and had two children, Susan and Andrew. He and his family moved to Calgary in 1956. Ezra was predeceased by Theresa in 1980. Ezra was a carpenter by trade who worked for a number of commercial construction companies as a Project Manager/General Superintendent in charge of many multi-million dollar projects throughout Canada. Ezra was a man of few words; it was his presence and his silence that spoke most often for him. He observed and listened to people. He was an excellent judge of character but not judgmental. Ezra was a generous man who shared his life with family and friends. He loved to garden and provided fresh vegetables, especially his famous tomatoes, for his family and neighbours. He was content with himself, with his life and with his world. Ezra had the good fortune to meet Vera Vignola. They were able to share 30 years of life together in a loving partnership that suited them both. He always had a sense of purpose in life. He continued to be positive and appreciative of the life he was able to live with Vera till the end. Ezra the man, with his big presence in life, is no longer here. He died as he lived – content and at peace. We, Susan (Richard Large), Andrew (Christa Fox) and Vera Vignola, miss him terribly. Life without Ezra will be difficult for all of us. He was a wonderful Dad and partner. We are grateful for the time we had with him. LAWTON, Manley James (Jim), CD (14 Sep 1935 - 13 Nov 2016) - 81 of Dartmouth, passed away suddenly in the Dartmouth General Hospital on November 13, 2016. He was the son of the late William and Ruth (Walker) Lawton. Jim served in the Canadian Navy for 25 years at Shearwater, after retiring he ran a charter boat out of Eastern Passage. He enjoyed golf, curling, lawn bowling, singing in the church choir, bell ringing and wood working. He is survived by his devoted companion Juanita "Marie" Eisan, of Dartmouth; brother Ralph, of Mississauga, ON; sister Helen Lawton, of Windsor, ON; nine nephews and three nieces. He was predeceased by his loving wife of 40 years Silvia Walsh and sister, Dorothy Nightingale. Visitation will take place from 2-4 and 6-8 pm on Thursday, November 17, 2016 with a legion service at 6:15pm both in A. L. Mattatall Funeral Home. Funeral Service will be held at 11 am on Friday, November 18, in St. James United Church with Rev. Fred Snyder officiating. Burial will take place in Arcadia Cemetery in Yarmouth at 1pm Saturday November 19, 2016. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to St. James United Church. TORGUNRUD, Maurice Lavern (Moe) - passed away peacefully on Wednesday, November 16, 2016 at the age of 92 years. He was born near Bromhead, Saskatchewan and grew up on the family farm. Moe was predeceased by his wife Florence "Sunny", parents Oliver and Agnes, brothers Arnold, Elvin, Ken, Mel and Norman, and sisters Adeline (Betteridge) and Oriel (Goranson). He is survived by his sons Craig (Linda), and Dave (Tim Rushton); his step-grandson Peter (Caroline) and step-great-grandson Evan Armstrong; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends he loved dearly. Moe enlisted in the navy during World War II and served on a Corvette in the North Atlantic. Upon returning home he began working for SaskPower, at first as a lineman, retiring after 34 years. He was an avid curler and golfer and enjoyed baseball, hunting, fishing and working on word puzzles. Moe had a great sense of humour and enjoyed a good laugh. He was the greatest father with a kind, gentle, loving heart. By Moe's request a service will not be held. Thank you very much for the great care and friendship Moe received from the staff at the Wascana Rehabilitation Centre Veterans Unit and at Sunset Extendicare. WALLIS, Gordon W. (20 Oct 1925 - 08 Nov 2016) - Born in Lloydminster Saskatchewan to William and Gwen Wallis. Predeceased by his sisters Lillian Thirlwell and Muriel Webb; survived by his loving wife Rita of 59 years, his daughters Hilary Plaschka and Jenifer Wallis, his granddaughters Christina and Alexandra Plaschka, and Breanna Wallis, his step sisters Eva Townsend and Marion Nelson, and his brother Albert. Following public school, he joined the navy where he remained until wars end. Returning to civilian life, he continued his education receiving his Ph.D. from Cambridge University, England. Returning to Canada and settling in Victoria BC, he pursued a career in forest pathology until retirement. In retirement he enjoyed golf and furthered his interest in plants as a lily hybridizer. WILLS, Kenneth A. (Ken) - passed away on November 10, 2016 at the age of 94. Predeceased by his wife, Eileen (2003), he is lovingly remembered by his daughters and son-in-law's, Pat Osborne (Gordie), Joanne McInnes (Neil), and Pam McCaghey (Duff); his six grandchildren, Sherrie (Andy), Debbie (Bob), Stephanie (Jonathan), Kevin, Sarah (Dave) and Melissa (Ryan); his eight great grandchildren Emily, Olivia, Ethan, Anna, Brady, Spencer, Mackenzie and Lexie; and sisters Eileen Wilson and Dorothy Little (George). Dad will be remembered by all who knew him, as a generous, hardworking, energetic and thoughtful gentleman. Born in Victoria, he attended Sir James Douglas and Vic High where he was active in leadership and sports. In 1941 he was accepted into the first Royal Roads Officers Training Program and served with the Navy until the end of the war. He then began a 56 year career with Manulife where he became a well-respected mentor to his colleagues. He served his clients with a high moral principal and became a supportive friend to many. His dedication to others extended into the community where he served on the boards of charities such as the Cerebral Palsy Organization, George Pearkes Clinic and the United Way. Upon retiring dad especially enjoyed fishing, spending hours in his garden, chatting with and helping his neighbours, and baking his famous chocolate chip cookies for the grandchildren. At the age of 90, dad left our family home on Neil Street and moved to Berwick House where he made many new friends. He is remembered by the residents and staff for his big smile and helpful caring way. We are grateful to Dr. D. Woodley and the staff at Berwick for their compassionate care and support of dad and our family. We are also thankful for the care he received at VGH during his last few days. Reg Rhymes from Lower East Chezzetcook was predeceased by wife, Marguerite Minnie (Banfield); parents, Mary Elizebeth (Benoit) and Phillip Rhymes; brothers, Eric and Phillip. Left to mourn are son, Gordon and wife Barbara (Oakley), East Chezzetcook; daughter, Marguerite Melinda (Rhymes) Wade and husband Charlie Wade, East Chezzetcook; grandsons, Nathan Morgan Wade, East Chezzetcook; Nickolas Micheal Wade (Cheri Whebber), Cole Harbour; brother, Steve MacDonald, Sydney; and very special friend, Marjorie Pettipas, East Chezzetcook. After leaving Newfoundland in 1943, Reg served in the RCA for one year and 27 years in the RCN. Reg also worked for the Dartmouth School Board for 15 years after his retirement from the navy. Memorial services will be held in St. Genevieve's Church at 723 East Chezzetcook Rd., East Chezzetcook, on Wednesday, August 16, at 1:30 p.m. Reception to be held in St. Genevieve's Church Hall in East Chezzetcook following the service. NICOLSON, James Edward Allan (aka Scottie, Nic, Jim) - It is with deep sorrow that the family of Scottie Nicolson announce his passing on January 16, 2015, at Regina General Hospital. Scottie was born February 28, 1937 on the farm south of Semans SK. He always said he was born under his Aunt Jean's bed. He was predeceased by his dad Jimmie; mom Hazel; stepmother Grace; and sister-in-law Martha. Left to mourn his passing, are: his son Brad (Carol), grandson Barry (Roxanne), great granddaughter Autumn, great grandson Jace, and granddaughter Melissa (Kyle); daughter Angela, and Jean, the mother of his children, all of Calgary. He also leaves his brother George (Elsie) of Hinton AB; brother Jack of Raymore SK; and sister Marian of Regina; as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Scottie attended the small country schools of Llanwenarth and Highclere until grade ten, and then attended Raymore High School. He joined the Royal Canadian Navy in 1959 and trained as an Electrician. He retired from the Navy in 1977. He then spent five years as a Commissionaire at the radar base at Alsask. Cremation and interment will take place at a later date. KUSHNER, Francis John (Frank), C1ST4, RCN - age 87 years of Dartmouth passed away May 6, 2013 at the Camp Hill Veteran's Memorial Building in Halifax. Born June 1, 1925 in Sudbury, Ontario a son of the late Michael & Lena (Luther) Kushner. Frank joined the Royal Canadian Navy as a young man. He was a veteran of World War II and the Korean War. After his naval career he was employed with the Canadian Inland Waters Service and later the Canadian Coast Guard. He was an active member of St. Peter's Catholic Church , Dartmouth. He is survived by his wife the former Helen Turpin, children Wanda Kushner (Brian) - Bridgewater, Susanna Miller (Jim) - Grimsby, Ontario, Francis - Hamilton, Ontario, Michael - Stoney Creek, Ontario, five grand children and eight great grand children. He was predeceased by brothers Gerald and Murray, sisters Wanda and Joyce. Frank will be remembered for his devotion to his family and his ready wry humor. CLARK, F. Gordon, LCdr, RCN (27 Mar 1932 - 19 Oct 2016) - Passed peacefully on October 19th, 2016 at the age of 84 in Victoria BC. After graduating from Sir George Williams College in Montreal, Gordon joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving in HMCS Bonaventure, Swansea and Nipigon with shore postings in Halifax, Ottawa, London England, Toronto, Esquimalt and the Defense Research Establishment of the Pacific serving his Country with honour for 45 years. The Supply Officer on HMCS Nipigon on October 18th, 1965 when an explosion and fire onboard occurred at sea resulting in the loss of 3 crewmen he was one of the many brave Officers and Crew that cared for their crewmates and a hero to his family for his actions that night. Predeceased by his wife of 58 years Joyce (McConnell) Clark, RN. Sadly missed by his sons Robert (Teresa) of Brussels, Bruce (Adrienne) of Victoria, and David (Lorrie) of Cambridge, ON. Grandchildren Andrew, Christopher, Greggory, Sharon and Rowan, and great grandchildren; Jordyn, Caleb and Noah. Predeceased by his parents Gordon and Ethel (Brown) and sister Barbara Billings. KIRKWOOD, Harold Ford (Kirk) - A WW II Veteran, With heavy hearts we announce the peaceful passing of a beloved father, grandfather, brother (in-law) and uncle, in his 97th year of a very full life. Born on December 2, 1919 in Dundee, Scotland, to the late William and Margaret Kirkwood. Dad slipped away in the wee hours of November 16, 2016, at Sunnybrook Veterans Residence, to be with the love of his life; his angel Chrissie. Dad first enlisted with the Canadian Army, but transferred to the navy after 1 year and was on Corvette duty aboard the HMCS Rimouski in the North Atlantic. A Mason since he was initiated into St. Andrew's Lodge in 1949, he was presented with his 50 year emblem from the Grand Secretary. As a youth he was an avid athlete in all sports (especially track) and had been selected to go to the British Empire Games before the war broke out. He and Chrissie were championship jitterbuggers extraordinaire. As a past President of the Highland Dancing Association, Dad was a much loved emcee of many Highland Games. Deeply missed by daughters Grace Anne (Ed), Gail (Peter) and Tina; brother-in-law Geoffrey Scott (the late Loraine); and grandchildren Scott, Andrew, Patrick, and Connor; Christina, Catherine, Robert and John. Also sadly missed by many nieces and nephews as well as the Highland Dancing communities of Quebec, Ontario and British Columbia. Private family viewing. Cremation. Graveside interment to be held at Glen Oaks Cemetery, 3164 Ninth Line, Oakville, on Friday, November 25th at 1 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations to the Heart & Stroke Foundation, the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre or the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 82 would be appreciated. MERCER, James Albert Neville (08 Mar 1926 - 05 Nov 2016) - It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our beloved father, grandfather, and great-grandfather after a long, full and productive life. Jim was born in Nakusp, BC, and grew up in New Westminster. At the age of fourteen, he went to sea as an apprentice to become a master mariner. His early seafaring experiences included the merchant marine service and whaling ships in the North Pacific. He enlisted in the Royal Canadian Navy in 1943 and actively served in the North Atlantic for the remainder of WW II. His wartime experiences included convoy escorts and U-boat hunting. He remained in the Naval reserve for several years after WWII, during which time he worked for the Union Steamship Company and on dredges in the Fraser River. Jim met his future wife Olive April Hadley in Newfoundland during the war. They were married in 1946. Jim left his maritime pursuits in 1955 and with their four sons they moved to the Cariboo region in central B.C. There they were involved in ranching and other business enterprises. Later in life Jim and April returned to the west coast, where Jim worked for the BC Ferries as well as operating vessels of their own. Jim and April made many moves during their 59 years of married life. As a result of their genuine congeniality, they gathered a wide circle of friends wherever they went. Jim was predeceased by April and son Robin. He was the patriarch of a large extended family living in Alberta, B.C., Yukon and Washington State. He was a considerate and patient mentor, friend, and role model to all his family. Left to mourn are his sons Jim (Betty Lou), Dan (Maureen) and Brian, as well as eight grandchildren and ten great- grandchildren. He was an honourable, dignified and authentic gentleman whose example will continue to guide us. (100 Mile House Free Press 19 Nov 2016) 

POPE, Carroll Robert (Cal) (04 Jan 1923 - 16 Nov 2016) -  "Cal" and "Uncle Cal", dearly beloved husband of Georgina MontRoyal Ruth "Tina" Pope (nee Silzer) has entered his Heavenly Home at the age of 93 years. Cal and Tina had celebrated their 66th Wedding Anniversary this past July. Cal was born in Milestone, SK on the farm. When he became old enough, he and his brother enlisted in the Navy – Second World War – and saw many countries during his service. After leaving the Navy, he started his own business – "C.R. Pope Flooring" – and was very well known in Regina and surrounding area, installing carpet, linoleum and tile and he was truly a "perfectionist" in all that he did! This he did for 53 plus years. He was very sociable all his life, and he and Tina liked nothing better than to be around family and friends, just enjoying life! During his lifetime, he enjoyed a little curling, the game of golf (although Tina said that he had his 'difficulties' on the courses at times but was always smiling after a game!) Cal and Tina were season ticket holders for the Saskatchewan Roughriders for over 50 years and were true die-hard fans, never missing a game! This man was truly a funny, kind, gentle, hardworking and modest soul who was always there for family and friends. He was predeceased by his parents; one brother; and an infant brother. Cal is survived by and will always be loved and missed by his wife Georgina "Tina"; nieces Linda (Wes) and Sandra; nephew Roland (Joan); dear niece-in-law Ellen; as well as great-nieces, great-nephews and one great- great-nephew from Regina, SK, Winnipeg, MB, Duncan and Vancouver, BC and Guelph, ON. Uncle Cal especially loved and enjoyed being around the "youngest" members of the family, who dearly loved their "Uncle Cal" and spent many happy times playing with him, just being silly and giggling a lot! He will also be remembered by his many customers and friends near and far. A private funeral will take place as requested. KILPATRICK, Phillip Hedley (Phil) (16 Jun 1942 - 04 Jul 2009) - After a courageous battle with cancer Phil has gone home peacefully to be with his Lord. He is lovingly remembered by his wife Ruth, daughter Thea (partner Maria Cuartin), Frank (Mary and grandchildren Colton and Kaeleigh), stepchildren Rob Holownia (Jennifer Jolicouer), Sharon Gauld (Allan and grandchildren Ella and Alex) and Michael Holownia, and chosen daughter Michelle Dunn (Steve and granddaughter Whitley). A Memorial Service to honour Phil's life will be at St. Stephen's United Church in Qualicum Beach, BC on Saturday, July 11, 2009 at 1:30 p.m. with reception to follow. McINTYRE, Earl L., Chief Petty Officer 1st Class Engine room Artificer, RCN / C.A.F. (Navy) - (22 Feb 1934 - 06 Nov 2016) - Earl passed away peacefully on November 6, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife of 59 years, Jean, children Wayne, Owen, Annette (Michael), grandchildren Morgan, Colton, Ellen, Monica and Andrew, great granddaughter Samara and beloved dog Mr. Scruffy. He was a Korean War vet and served in the Navy for 33 years. There will be no formal service but a private gathering of family will take place at a later date. PENNEY, Harold Clinton (1935-2016) - It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of a loving husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather on November 20, 2016, in the Palliative Care Unit at the Cape Breton Regional Hospital, Sydney. As a young man, Harold joined the Royal Canadian Navy as an apprentice seaman. After serving in the Navy, he worked at many jobs until starting his own company in the late 1960’s. He successfully operated H.C. Penney Ltd. until 1991, when he retired to the life of leisure - RVing and spending the winters in Case Grande, Arizona. Harold was a volunteer fireman for the NAIAD Fire Dept. No. 2 in Yarmouth from 1963-1979, and then at the Frenchvale Fire Dept. from 1982-1994. Harold was a member of the Yarmouth Gateway Dancers, the Highland Capers Square Dancers, the Val Vista Roadrunners, the Bluenose R. V. Squares and the Town and Country Squares. Born August 18, 1935, in Kelley’s Cove, Yarmouth County, Harold was the youngest son of Percy and Emma (Christie) Penney. He was predeceased by brothers, Charles and Walter; sister, Margaret; and daughter, Janice. Harold is survived by his wife, Judith (Flynn, Pledge); his former wife, Olive Rose; sisters, Blanche Billard and Lillian Metzger; son, John (Yvette); daughter, Sharon LeBlanc (Dwayne); stepdaughters, Brenda Pledge, Carolyn Amaral and Patricia Pledge; stepson, Roy Pledge; 14 grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Visitation will take place at Sydney Memorial Chapel on Wednesday, November 23 from 1-2 p.m., followed by a funeral service in the chapel at 2 p.m., with Mr. Gary Grant officiating. There will also be a funeral service held at Sweeny’s Funeral Home in Yarmouth on Saturday, November 26 at 11 a.m., with Rev. A. D. "Bill" Newell officiating. JAMIESON, Keith - Son of the late John and Vera (Beckett) Jamieson passed away suddenly, surrounded by love on Sunday, May 8th, 2016. Keith was 76 and is survived by his partner Jeannette Kalynuik and his children Keith Jr. (Liz Marskell), Kimberley (Mike Soucie), Kelly and John Auguscinski and their children Johnny and Jenna and Kris and his daughters Samantha, Jesse and Jadyn. He will also be missed by his sisters Carolyn (Dave Collier), Nancy (late Jack Sloan), and Marsha Dilts. Keith was an avid reader and enjoyed historical novels and was a member of the Port Colborne Historical and Marine Museum. He was a sports enthusiast and had a passion for golf. He served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a diver and continued diving for private companies. He became a Commissionaire and worked for several years at Dupont in Whitby, and at Brock University. MERRITT, James (Jim) (15 Feb 1941 - 10 Nov 2016) - A visitation will be held on Sunday, November 27 at Atlantic Funeral Home, 125 Sackville Drive, Lower Sackville NS. From 2 until 4 pm and 7 to 9 pm. Please bring your stories. We will be celebrating his life. Interment will take place on Monday, November 28 at Oakridge Memory Gardens, Old Sackville Road, Lower Sackville NS. at 11 am Graveside service only. Every one of you who knew Jim knew that you should always expect the unexpected from him. On November 10 he surprised us one last time by passing away in his sleep. He didn't go "with his boots on" but he was at home in his own bed. Some of you knew Jim as a sailor. OD to Warrant Officer in 26 years of service. He loved being a sailor and travelling the world with his shipmates, but he didn't love the fact that ships only travel on the ocean. Born in Hamilton Ontario and growing up in Calgary Alberta He really didn't swim very well you know.

Joined the Navy on April 23rd 1959. HMCS Chaudiere 1959 - 1966 HMCS St. Laurent 1967 - 1969 HMCS Margaree 1971 - 1973 HMCS Margaree 1974 - 1976 HMCS Athabaskan 1976 - 1978 HMCS Iroquois 1982 - 1985. Other than courses, I spent my time ashore as a maintainer in the Operations Trainer." 

When he decided he'd had enough of living on whichever "Yacht" he was on at the time Jim retired and shortly there after went to work for Litton Systems doing, guess what, yep working on the Trump program updating the Naval ships. He really enjoyed this stage of his life because going to sea as a civilian was a lot nicer than as an enlisted man. You even got your own cabin. The Swiss Air Disaster in 1999 got Jim back on the ocean. This time with the Coast Guard plying the water off Peggy's Cove in what he called a rubber dinghy. You should have asked him about how he tied himself to the boat when it got really rough. Jim's life as a "Beagler" overlapped all of the above. He joined the Atlantic Beagle Club in 1970 or '71 and bought the first of what seemed to me like hundreds of dogs. I recall having 11 of them to look after when he went to sea. Over the years he has become well known for his breeding and training skills. He loved to teach younger people how to work with the dogs and the importance of good breeding. Over the past few years he compiled a list of thousands of pedigrees, going back many years. Saturdays were hunting days snow, sleet, or hurricane. Nothing stopped the hunt. The past few years he modified that schedule a bit. The " dogs were getting older" you know. He went deer hunting a week or so ago, but the rabbits - who knows - maybe there is a season in Heaven. If you are allowed to worry after you die, I am sure he is worrying about getting the new "clubhouse" finished. He literally put his heart into getting it done. I hope it will happen. Jim's family, Peter, Leigh, Cheryl, Colby and Chad and I thank you for the friendship you gave Jim over the years. Jim will be interred in a Niche at Oakridge Memorial Gardens on Old Sackville Road, Lower Sackville on November 28 at 11 am. If you asked Jim how he was he would say " I'm still on the right side of the grass". He will always be.

TRACEY, Lester Marshall (Dick) - 75, Dartmouth, passed away in Dartmouth General Hospital on July 2, 2005. Born in Fredericton Junction, N.B., he was a son of the late Marshall and Doris (Palmer) Tracey. He was a 30 year veteran of the Royal Canadian Navy and employed by the Canadian Corps of Commissionaires. He was a member of The Royal Canadian Legion and The Atlantic Chief's and PO's Association. An avid sportsman, he enjoyed fishing and hunting. He is survived by his wife, Faustina (Marr) Tracey; children, Sharon (Terry) Seaboyer; Doris (Randy) Melvin; Kevin; Brenda Tracey; Darryl (Annie) and Trevor. He was Papa to his grandchildren Jeffrey, Tobin, Laura, Carly and Marcus. He was a brother to Jeannine (Francis) Alexander, Fredericton Junction, N.B.; Edward (Doreen), Dartmouth; Winston (Pat), New Maryland, N.B.; Marcia Rumson, Saint John, N.B.; Myrna (Woody) MacMullin, Saint John, N.B.; Pamela Tracey, Saint John, N.B.; an uncle to many nieces and nephews. HMCS MARGAREE

COATES, John Sidney, Stoker - 93, of Fountain Hills, died peacefully in his sleep, at home, on Sept. 28, 2016. Sid was born, Sept. 7, 1923, in Carbon, Alberta, Canada. He grew up on a small farm at the end of the road in the little town of Carbon with his older sister and immigrant parents. At 17 he left the farm, joined the Royal Canadian Navy and went off to war. He spent many months crossing the Atlantic on Canada’s HMCS Trentonian escorting supply ships to and from England. After his unit’s preparation for and participation in the military action at D-Day, June 6, 1944, the Trentonian resumed escorting supply ships. On Feb. 22, 1945 his ship was torpedoed and sunk by a German submarine. An English ship, without permission, stopped to help rescue the sailors from the brutally cold waters of the Atlantic. Sid, “the farm boy from the prairie, who wasn’t a swimmer, was one of the fortunate who clamored to the top of the scramble net to safety. After the war he returned to Canada and settled in Calgary where he met his wife, Doris Irene Quesseth. They had two daughters, Beverley Anne and Linda Cheryl. During the 1953 polio epidemic Doris and their new-born son, John died. In 1957 he married Vera Alice Ross Brown who had three daughters of her own, Beverly, Sharon and Carolyn. Sid became a caring influence in the lives of these girls and their families as well: Beverly and Barney Cocklan, Sharon and Doug Compton and Carolyn and Lavern Esklane. Vera died of cancer in 1990. Sid had 30 rewarding years serving the citizens of Calgary AB Canada as a policeman. He retired as Superintendent of Detectives in 1979 and was known to be “A Policeman’s Policeman!” He was a good friend and enjoyed many happy hours fishing and hunting in the “great white north” with friends and family. Sid was a GREAT grandpa to all his grandchildren. He always vowed he wanted to get to know them all well and he did this. He brought a wonderful element of fun and mischief to their lives and will be missed by them all. In 1993 he met his soon-to-be wife, Carol Ann Russell Linge. They were married Jan. 14, 1995 in Sedona, and made Fountain Hills their home. Soon after they married Sid wrote a book about his life in which, on the final page, he wrote: “When I was in the process of selling my house in Pinnacle Peak and buying a condo near downtown Old Scottsdale I met a lady named Carol who was a school teacher. We stayed together and were married in 1995 and built a nice new home in Fountain Hills, outside of Scottsdale. Carol retired from teaching and now we’re settling into Fountain Hills and starting to enjoy it. “Hopefully I’m settled down for the rest of my life with such a very, very nice lady, Carol, who I love very much.” The joining of Sid’s Canadian family and Carol’s American family was evidenced by annual multiple month trips across the border made by many members of both families. This blending of cultures and people with love was a very gratifying and joyful experience in their marriage. These last 23 years were very happy years filled with love. A resident of Fountain Hills since 1996, Sid had been a member of the Fountain Hills Cultural and Civic Association, the Noon Kiwanis Club and the Fountains Methodist Church. He also was an avid supporter of Public Art and the Fountain Hills Theater. He was pre-deceased by his parents, John Hubert Coates and Edith Tierney Coates; his sister, Ethel Coates, his wife, the mother of his children, Doris Irene Quesseth Coates and their baby son, John; his wife, Vera Ross Brown Coates; and his grandson and wife, Colin Daryl Tilson and Mary Katherine Tilson. He is survived by his wife of 21 years, Carol Russell Linge Coates; his daughters, Beverley (Derek) Tilson of Waterton, Alberta, Cheryl (James) Bissell of Spruce Grove, Alberta; Carol’s daughter, Margaret (Michael) Oberg of Fountain Hills; seven grandchildren and six great grandchildren. Services will be held at The Fountains Methodist Church, Fountain Hills Blvd. on Sunday, Nov. 6, 2016 at 2 p.m. In lieu of flowers contributions in his honor may be made to The Fountains Methodist Church or The Fountain Hills Theater. HALLIDAY, Richard George (Doc), C2VS/Supp Tech, 19744-H, RCN / C.A.F. (served 15 Apr 1953 - 02 Oct 1979) - It is with great sadness the Halliday family announces the peaceful passing of Richard “Doc” George Halliday on November 21, 2016 at the South Shore Regional Hospital in Bridgewater, Nova Scotia. Born in St. Thomas, Ontario on February 21, 1936 to Chester “Chet” Halliday and Dorothy Dell (Brown), Doc began work at a very young age to help support their family. He then joined the Canadian Navy in 1954 at the age of 18, where he served on the East Coast for the majority of his 27 year career. Not long after his arrival on the East Coast, he met his wife of 60 years Margaret “Vicky” (Robar) in the small community of East Clifford along the South Shore where she still resides. After retiring in 1979 holding the rank of Chief Petty Officer, he assumed the position of Maritime District Manager for Zippo Manufacturing Inc. and also began his own company (Maritime Insignia Inc.) shortly after. He earned much success and recognition over the years until his retirement in 1995. Doc was always an active Navy Veteran volunteering relentlessly for whatever was needed or had to be done. Co-Founder and Past-President of the “Admiral Desmond Piers Naval Association” (formerly South Shore Naval Association); which he was instrumental in receiving a Charter with the Canadian National RCNA Association. He also was highly involved organizing many successful Naval Reunions on the East Coast that included Royal Canadian Naval Associations (RCNA) members from across the country. He also served as a member of the RCNA National Executive Committee where he held the position of Parliamentary & Veterans Affairs Liaison Officer until his passing. He was the Recipient of many highly regarded awards and medals including the Veterans Affairs Medal of Commendation, Canadian Decoration (CD), and the Queen’s Jubilee just to mention a few. He became very well recognized and respected throughout the Naval community from all currently serving Naval members and Veterans alike. He was also a member of the Royal Canadian Legion – Branch #24 in Bridgewater for many years where their Naval Association worked closely with members hosting many events throughout the years. Active in his community, he was a member of the New Horizons Seniors Club in New Germany, and actively attended many local area card parties where (he never cheated) usually became involved in helping with operations. As Doc sets sail on his final voyage, we say good-bye to a beloved husband, father, brother, friend, mentor, and shipmate. He will be greatly missed by all those that came to know him, and one day we shall unite with him again. He has always been tough, but this taught us to be strong and weather through rough seas such as this so that we can enjoy the calm waters ahead. Survived by his wife Margaret “Vicky” (Robar) and their 4 children, 7 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren: Chester and Marlene (Uhlman) Halliday; Amanda, Jessica, and Corey – Dartmouth, NS, Amber Halliday and Santo Barilla; Genoa – Ottawa, Ontario, Brent and Brenda (Morrissette) Halliday; Sakima and Kiawa – Victoria, BC, and Dexter and Darlene (Bush) Halliday; Mikayla – East Clifford, NS, Step-sister Rebecca (Becky) and Bob Scott – St. Thomas, Ontario. SAWCHUK, William (Bill) (16 Jan 1926 - 25 Sep 2016) - peacefully passed away at the age of 90 in Winnipeg, MB at Health Sciences Centre, with his daughter Debra by his side. Dad was predeceased by his cherished wife Elsie, of 58 years; parents Peter and Mary; brothers John, Tony, Paul, and sister Elsie. Dad is survived by his loving children Debra, and Gordon (Gord) (Kay); grandchildren Harry and Sophie; siblings Lena, Joe (Joyce), Nick, Pauline (Rex), Sylvia (Bill), Steve (Lee), and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Dad was born in Newdale, MB and moved to Winnipeg in his early teens. When the Second World War broke out, Dad joined the Navy from 1941 to 1946. Dad worked for Via Rail's onboard services as a Service Supervisor for 37 years and retired in 1983. Dad had a passion for gardening, cooking and animals, and enjoyed reading, watching the history channel as well as the Blue Bombers and the Winnipeg Jets. LACASSE, Alfred Joseph Marius (A.J.) (24 Jun 1938 - 09 Nov 2016) - With his family by his side, A.J. passed peacefully onto his next adventure. Born in St. Pierre, MB, his parents eventually moved the family and settled for a time in St. Vital, and then Lorette, MB. A. J. served in The Royal Canadian Navy from 1957-1962, serving as a boiler room mechanic. When he returned to Lorette, he had many jobs, from plumbing, to working at CN, working for the Village of Lorette and finishing as a crane operator with Tri Clad Designs. His most enjoyable job was helping his son and daughter-in-law, when they moved from B.C. to Anola. He spent every weekend for three years, building fences, and buildings, fixing the barn and just whatever he could do to help. He lived life on his own terms, and did everything fearlessly, from playing lacrosse and boxing, in his youth, hockey to hill climbing and enjoying his motorcycle as an adult. He was always ready and willing to help his friends and neighbors whenever he was needed. He could weld just about anything you needed, and was always game to build something new. He never shied away from a challenge. If you were his friend, you were his friend for life, as his coffee buddies will tell you. Many spirited conversations have been conducted at the Mug. Predeceased by his father, Marius; mother MarieAnne; and brother, Damien (Luke), nephews, Perry and Clayton. A.J. leaves to remember him, his life partner, Tracey; daughter Lydia; son Dan, his wife Shannon, son CJ and daughter Veronica; and son Bill, his wife Sherry, son Kal and daughter Frankie; sister Jeanne (Jake), sister Therese (Stan) (God daughter Jennifer), brother Ron, brother Paul (Marie-Paul), sister Cecile and brother Joe (Monique), sister-in-law Anne; many nieces and nephews, and great-nieces and nephews. DeGUIRE, Real Joseph - Passed away peacefully, surrounded by his loving family. Now reunited with his wife and best friend, Jeannine (nee Couvillion). Will be sadly missed by his children, Linda Matheson (Frank), Joanne Masse (John), Real Jr. (Barb), Roland (deceased) and Wayne. Cherished grandfather to Jennifer, Mike, Real "Bud", Lisa and Christopher. Great- grandfather to many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. LITWIN, Peter (30 May 1929 - 21 Nov 2016) Served as an Able Seaman Canadian Royal Navy - Passed away at the General Hospital, on Sunday, November 20, 2016, at the age of 87. Predeceased by his beloved partner Donald Wight. Dear brother of Olga Gresiuk. He also leaves many supportive friends here in Ottawa. Per Mr. Litwin's request no service will be held. PATTERSON, Henry W. (Pat) (16 Mar 1919 - 17 Nov 2016) - passed away peacefully at the age of 97 at the Sunnybrook Veterans Centre, surrounded by members of his loving family. Devoted husband of Louise (Skinner), to whom he was happily married for 73 years. Dear father of Carol (Lawrence), Heather (Rajan), Bonni (Norm), Janet, Stephen (Marianne) and Robert (Carmalita). Dear grandfather of Christian, Nick (Amanda), Robin (Delia), Sunny (Montanne), Jesse (Laura), Joanna (Jason), Maureen (Jeremy), Allison, P.J. (Emily), Joy, Caitlin (Dave), Ian and Christine. Proud great-grandfather of Serena, Finn, Lily, Jazzen, Covelle, Patrick, Julia and Hector. All will miss him greatly, as will his sister Christine, five nieces and nephews, and many friends and colleagues over the years. Born in Aylesford, Nova Scotia, Pat grew up in Montreal, graduating from McGill and then Columbia University (Journalism). While posted to the west coast in the Canadian Navy, he met and married Louise, the love of his life. When the war ended, he resumed his career as a Newspaper Reporter and Editor - in Vancouver, Winnipeg and Toronto, where his growing family finally settled. Twenty years later, he began a second career when he joined Public Relations Services Limited (PRSL), Canada's oldest PR firm, and eventually became President. After heading its operations for seven years, he served as a Director and Senior Consultant when the company was merged with Continental Communications. Pat's interests were broad. He served as a Director of a number of organizations, from the Toronto Men's Press Club to the Toronto Cricket, Skating and Curling Club. He also helped to found the Toronto Grand Masters Curling League and the National Competitive Festival of Music and was an honorary life member of the Canadian Association of Music Festivals. He supported many worthy causes, from the Bruce Trail to UNICEF. He loved music from an early age; his family was treated to his fine baritone voice and his piano playing. He was interested in Canadian history, sports and politics. When he wasn't working, he loved gardening, camping, special outings with the family and cottage life at Sauble Beach. Curling began in his forties, and he was still skipping at the age of 92. Once the family was raised, he enjoyed travels with Louise. In retirement, he became a fine woodcarver. If there was something to edit, like the newsletter of the condominium building where he lived with Louise, he was on it. Pat's gentleness, wisdom and integrity benefitted all who knew him. A celebration of life will take place at a later date to honour his long, full, wonderful life. In memory of Pat, donations to the Sunnybrook Foundation or Habitat for Humanity would be appreciated. "All my service (1943-1946) was on the Pacific coast.  My first ship was HMCS Wolf, a converted yacht working as a gate vessel at the entrance to the Esquimalt naval base outside Victoria, B.C.  My second posting was to HMCS Dawson, a corvette.  The third was to a Bangor-class minesweeper, HMCS Bayfield.  All of these assignments were of relatively short duration, upon which came a succession of appointments to Fairmile-class subchasers. Grouped into two flotillas of six ships each we worked five-day shifts, patrolling the Strait of Juan de Fuca for Japanese submarine activity. My first Fairmile was Motor Launch (ML) Q-O71, after which I successively captained Fairmiles Q-067, Q-069, and Q-125."

SMITH, William (Bill) Curtis, DEMS Gunner (11 Jul 1925 - 22 Nov 2015) - Born in Dauphin, Manitoba Bill is survived by his loving wife Norma (Fitzpatrick) of 70 years and four sons William, James (Pamela), Robert (Kathy), and Kelly (Kristine), along with six grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Bill was predeceased by his mother Elsie and his father Gordon Smith as well as his two brothers, Gordon and George and sister Jean (McElrea). Bill left Dauphin and joined the Canadian Navy as a DEMS gunner during WW2. During the war he met the love of his life Norma (Fitzpatrick) in Montreal. In his long career in the food industry Bill was General Manager of Brandon Packers. His next endeavour was with Canada Safeway as a store manager, opening new locations in Dryden, Ontario and the first store in eastern Canada in Sault Ste Marie. Always wanting to live on the west coast he opened his own grocery store in the Kerrisdale area of Vancouver. After this, they moved and lived in Port McNeil for many years before finally settling in the Sidney area. Bill was involved in the community working at the Sidney Food Bank and involvement with various Lions Club locations, focusing on the sight programs. In his failing health he continued to visit his wife every day at the Care Home. In life Bill showed his children and all that knew him, that love can exist through his love and dedication to his wife Norma. The family will not be having a formal funeral and request that everyone celebrate Bill's life in their own way. TUMMON, Allan Albert, DEMS Gunner (07 Aug 1925 - 05 Dec 2015) - Allan passed away peacefully on December 5, 2015 in Burnaby Hospital. Born and raised in Winnipeg, Allan served in the Royal Canadian Navy as a DEMS gunner. Allan was also an accomplished musician, wrestling and boxing promoter, international boxing official and Director of Loss Prevention for both Eaton's and then London Drugs. Allan also served on the Board of Directors as a founding member for both the Greater Vancouver CrimeStoppers and the Vancouver Police Crime Prevention Society. Although Allan moved to Vancouver in the late 1960s, he always considered himself to be a true Winnipeger through and through. He is survived by his wife Jenny, sons Allan and Lorne, and stepson Dana.

WOODHOUSE, Allen Keith - (1925-2006) Peacefully on Sunday, February 12th, in his 81st year at Eventide Home in Niagara Falls. Beloved husband and best friend of Winnifred for nearly 62 years. Cherished father of Donald Earla, Sheila Terry Whitehead, and Glen. He will be missed by his grandchildren Robert Vicky Whitehead, Randi Dan Etherington, David Cheryl Woodhouse and Tari Steven Gibson, also by his seven great-grandchildren, Nicole, Jessica, Caitlin, Brodie, Keithin, D.J. and Davin. Keith was predeceased by his parents, Alfred and Hilda, brothers David and Edward and daughters-in-law Elizabeth and Arlette. Keith is survived by his brother Derwyn Helen and sister-in-law Ruth, his uncle Arthur Woodhouse and many nieces, nephews and cousins. Keith retired from General Motors after 32 years. He served in the Canadian Navy from 1943-1945. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion Branch 138, Past Member of Niagara Lodge 2 in Niagara-on-the-Lake and Past Noble Grand of the Merritton Livingston Oddfellows Lodge. The family wish to thank the staff of Eventide for their dedication and care of Keith. A private family viewing was held on Wednesday, February 15th, at Hetherington and Deans Funeral Home with cremation and interment to follow at Pleasantview Memorial Gardens. DOULL, Robert Hugh James,. Skipper, RCNR - date of death unknown. Robert joined the Merchant Marine at 12 years of age and by the age of 26 achieved his 3rd Mate's Ticket while serving with B.C.C.S. From 1940 to 1944 he served in the RCNR achieving the rank of Skipper. In 1943 he served in HMCS CANCOLIM. In 1945 he and his wife Obitna resided at 10 Fairfield Rd, Victoria, BC. His father Robert Doull Sr. also served in the Merchant Marine; his brother Alex in the RCN and sister Lorna served with the C.W.A.C.

SMITH, Frank Lorraine - Date of death unknown. Son of Mr. and Mrs. Dalton Smith of Amana, MB, was born 08 Aug 1917. He received his education at Amana and Lakeside, then farmed with his parents until his enlistment, 03 Jun 1942. he had his basic training at Victoria, HMCS Naden at ports on the east coast in 1942 and 1943. In Feb 1943, Frank went overseas with headquarters at Londonderry, Ireland, at at Greenoch, Scotland. For a considerable time he was with the North Atlantic Patrol. In April, 1946, he received his discharge at Winnipeg, and is now employed on highway construction.  (Source: Pioneers of Langruth, MB)

POWER, Michael Johnson (11 Mar 1949 - 26 Mar 2016) - It is with heavy hearts we announce the sudden passing of Michael J. Power on March 26, 2016 at the age of 67. He was preceded in death by his mother Joan, his step-mother Dorothy and his father Patrick. Michael is lovingly remembered by his wife Janice; his sons David (Rae) and Steven (Jordana); his grandchildren Khyla, Owen, Kalem, Samara and Isaac; his sisters Debra, Tara (Denis), Cathy (Jeff) and Maureen; and the many members of his extended family. Michael was born on March 11, 1949 in Windsor, Ontario, he was loving, kind-hearted, compassionate and dedicated. He enjoyed photography and videography, reading on history and visiting museums. Michael was married to Janice P. Power (Huntington) on September 22, 1973; they were married for 42 years. Michael proudly served with the Royal Canadian Navy for 5 years. He continued his service as a Cadet Officer with the Beaufort Cadet Squadron and later as the Commanding Officer of the Castlegar Cadet Squadron. In retirement he served as the Vice President of the Cumberland Legion. Michael had a passion for aviation. His love for flying saw him open his own flying school in Port Alberni, to spending many summers as a tow pilot in Abbotsford. In 1989, Michael became an instructor pilot at Selkirk College in Castlegar, where he would remain until retirement in 2014. (The Alberni Valley News)

LUND, Norman J. (1932-2007) - Born in 1932 at New Westminster, BC and grew up in Fraser Mills. He served in the RCN in Korea and during peacetime. His service career took him all over the world including Japan, and the USA. Norman was a Royal Canadian Legion member in Port Coquitlam for more than 37 years until his death in 2007

LINTON, Ernest Lunn, Rev (12 Oct 1925 - 22 Nov 2016) - age 91 years of Eastern Passage passed away peacefully on November 22, 2016. Born in Toronto, Ontario, he was the son of the late Edward and Bessie (Lunn) Linton. He is survived by son Bill (Debbie), Eastern Passage; daughter Patsy (Steve) Eddy, Cow Bay; grandchildren Jason Linton (Ashley), Janessa Linton, great-grandson Hunter Linton and brother Leonard (Norma) Toronto. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret of 57 years and brother Bob. Throughout his youth, Ernie was an all-round athlete participating in hockey, football and track and field. He received notable recognition in local papers for his athletic accomplishments. Shortly after finishing high school Ernie joined the Royal Canadian Navy serving with the Merchant Marine in the Pacific Theater. He sailed on 6 different Park class ships as a naval gunner. Travelling throughout the world during the war time played an important part in shaping the path he would lead in life. With the War ending he was discharged in the spring of 1946. Ernest started his education at Wycliffe College completing his theological studies in 1959. He began his ordained ministry as an Anglican rector in Arborfield, SK. Former parishes included Turtleford SK, Alberton PE, Stewiacke NS, with his last parish, St. Peter's Anglican Church Eastern Passage, from where he retired in 1989. After retirement, as part of his Christian work he continued to take services in Halifax and the Eastern Shore. Ernie celebrated 50 years of ordination in 2009. Throughout his adventurous life, Ernie always maintained a positive outlook, was an avid reader and studied the bible daily as part of his growth in Christian life. Your life was well lived! Dad, you will be missed. There will be no visitation. A graveside service will be held in St. Peter's Anglican Church Cemetery, Saturday Nov - 26th at 2:00 PM with Rev. John Ferguson officiating. A reception will follow. Memorial donations may be made to St. Peter's Anglican Church, Eastern Passage. Special thanks to the Health Care Professionals on 4 Westwood at the Camphill Veterans Memorial Building for the wonderful compassionate care he received during his stay.
